Who are your sports heroes?
There's already a thread about people in sports who piss you off now lets make one about people over the years who you've looked up to.
Here's a few: Cal Ripken Byron Leftwich Magic Johnson Mario Lemieux Brandin Knight |
Dan Marino
David Eckstein Magic Johnson (a lot more if I was a bigger hoops fan) Randall Cunningham (loved him as an Eagle when he was good) |
Charles Barkley :D
really, i've never had any heroes, even when i was small |
Grondar, I 'd have to agree with you on a couple;
Stan Musial Rex Hudler Kurt Rambis Dan Marino David Eckstein My sports heroes tend to be the guys that got where they are becuase they worked their asses off. Not necessarily because they were gifted with a ton of natural talent. |
Farve
Jordan Bobby Knight Jackie Robinson |
Well, I can cross Bill Buckner off my list...:(
Larry Bird Adam Vinatieri David Eckstein (popular pick, I just like the little guy) Cal Ripken Jr. Kirk Gibson |
larry brid
bill russel farve |
Charles Barkley is the man plus i love how hes Republican
|
Wayne Gretzky - The greatest athlete of the 4 major sports in this country.. compare his records to any modern day records and there is no comparison.. if he was playing today in his prime he would proably score 300 pts in the new bettman nhl..
Johan Cruyff and Juergen Klinsberg Mickey Mantle ( im a met fan ) |
Michael Jordan
Walter Payton Mike Singletary Brian Urlacher |
Lee Priest
Bruce Lee Michael Jordan By the way it's "Favre" not "Farve". |
bill russell
tiger woods muhammad ali |
Dale Earnhardt
John Elway Brett Favre |
Jared Lorenzen-- some have dubbed him the Hefty Lefty and the Pillsbury Throwboy, but still he gives men like myself hope that we can excel and play quarterback at that.
:D |
Sandy Koufax - quiet perfection, "the left arm of God" as SI once put it
David Robinson - I hate the Spurs but this guy is a model citizen David Eckstein - this guy is amazing, he has no arm, mediocre range, an average bat, but just seems to come out on top all the time Sammy Sosa - very modest but very powerful Magic Johnson - I saw him speak a couple years ago at my school. Very inspirational and a smart businessman. |
Wayne Gretzky
Bobby Orr Pete Sampras Jack Nicholas Tiger Woods Me |
Cal Ripken, Jr.
Gilbert Perreault Pete Rose (let him in the hall) Michael Jordan Jim Kelly Steve Tasker Dean Smith ( the greatest coach ever) |
Emmitt Smith
He is a perfect gentleman. He is a tribute to his sport. He knows that he is a role model and fulfils all the obligations as such. I hope when Arizona comes to Texas Stadium this season Emmitt has a 300 yard game and scores 72 points. |

I would like to present my hero: Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwan (and his little friend).

|
Wade Boggs : my favorite baseball player as a kid growing up
Michael Jordan: my favorite athlete period Bobby Herbert: Saints starting quarterback when the Saints were consistently good with the Dome Patrol. |
joe montana-football
dr j-basketball willie mays-baseball bobby orr-hockey wilt the stilt-all world baller:D |
Quote:
Just an observation, but maybe you should learn to spell one of your sports heroes' names. I believe it's "Favre". :D |
Shjon Podein.
He used to play for the Colorado Avalanche though I lost what happened to him after he was traded out. Sports heros also have to have a good presence in the community and Shjon made himself known in community service by choice, not because he was forced to. |
Wayne Gretzky
Michael Jordan |
Muhammad Ali...
|
sports heros...
well... mohammad ali michael jordan steve waugh john eales tony 'plugger' locket |
I admire a lot of athletes for their skills and accomplishments, but none would be a hero. Too many are flawed in their personal lifes.
|
Everyone has problems sometime in their life, if they're famous however it gets blown out of proportion ten times over.
And Jadey, don't single me out, dragon2fire messed up too :) |
jordan
iverson barry sanders |
Dan Marino (my #1 guy)
Mario Lemieux....he's just an all around super nice guy who can give a good interview to boot |
Nolan Ryan
Ted Williams (I hate the Sox, but this man was a class act.) Every Yankee in Monument Park -Mikey |
Being from Maryland,
1 Cal Ripken 2 Johhny Unitas Both stellar atheletes, as well as decent people. |
This one is easy for me: Dan Marino
Honorable Mention: Patrick Ewing |
Michael Jordan
|
Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Fernando Valenzuela, Tommy Lasorda, Sir Alex Ferguson, Ryan Giggs, Denis Irwin, Roberto Baggio, Dan Marino, Don Shula, Larry Csonka, Alex English, Coach Frank McGuire and Mia Hamm.
|
Dale Earnhardt. He was a great family man, a superb race car driver...just a great overall guy.
|
Ali, Oscar Robertson, Sean Casey. Can you tell I'm from Cincinnati? ;)
|
DEI youre right about earnhardt. He was a very good man. it's too bad he (like every race car driver and fan) got the "hick" stereotype.
|
Johnny Unitas
Brooks Robinson Cal Ripken, Jr. David Robinson |
Mario Lemeuix, cancer and record breaking at the same time has to be tough.
Brett Favre. What a big heart and love for the game. Not Corey Dillon. What a whiney piece of shit. Barry Sanders. The back who had it all. Lance Armstrong. 'Nuff said. |
