Joe Dumars, particularly in contrast to Isaiah Thomas.

Lefty04 11-19-2004 08:09 AM

Now that Grant Hill is back, I'll add him.

Mojo_PeiPei 11-19-2004 08:58 AM

Kirby Puckett. His Game 6 performance of the 1991 world series is something I'll remember all of my life.

Dominique Wilkins
Michael Jordan
Brett Favre
Roberto Clemente
Ivan Rodriguez

dtheriault 11-20-2004 12:10 AM

Brett Favre
Magic Johnson (Game six: rookie year against the sixers)
LA Rams fan (not a St. Louis fan) Jack Youngblood for playing in the Super bowl with a broken leg. Hacksaw Jim Reynolds for selling it every game, and John Capelleti.
Jerry West
Vin Scully and Chick Hearns

Spartak 11-20-2004 12:30 AM

Charlie George (scorer of great goals, but not a great goal scorer)
Liam Brady (Legend)
Michael Thomas ('Pool fans know why)
Lev Yashin (The Black Panther, The Octopus, Black Gloves, whatever you wanted to call him, it all meant a clean sheet for Russia/Dinamo).
Vyacheslav Tretiak (the benchmark for all (Russian) goaltenders)

To be honest those were all before my time, but looking through old articles, video and stories I admire them greatly, some of my sporting heroes now:

Tana Umaga (current Wellington/NZ rugby great)
Christian Cullen (former " " " " " " " " )
Thierry Henry (Frankly, the heart and soul of the team I watch at 3am on most Sunday mornings)
Andrei Shevchenko (I'm a 1/4 Ukranian myself, it's amazing what he has achieved, playing in a leauge that is notoriously difficult to score in)
Zenedine Zidane (The greatest footballer of the modern era, #2 all time behind Pele)
Stephen Fleming (The captain of the NZ cricket team, legend)

[QUOTE=deaby]Wayne Gretzky - The greatest athlete of the 4 major sports in this country.. compare his records to any modern day records and there is no comparison.. if he was playing today in his prime he would proably score 300 pts in the new bettman nhl..
[QUOTE]

Um...sorry? He wouldn't score 300, or even close to his real totals in his career. Scoring is waaaay down since his time, for whatever reason, and not much has been done to fix it.

Steve Nash- MVP front runner and great role model for aspiring canadian ballers. If he won the MVP he would be assured a place among the basketball heros, at least for canadians. I think he has it alread though with what he's done for canadian basketball.

Roy Halladay is mine for baseball. He is the bright light here in toronto. Whenever he gets the ball you feel that he can win it no matter how bad the rest of the team plays. At least he will show you some sweet at bats. I love the look batters give him after striking out on one of his evil curves. Bad injury plagued season last year but im excited for this season.

Fuck hockey

DJ Happy 02-22-2005 03:48 AM

Michael Jordan - needs no explanation.

Mark Hughes - A true warrior. In a league where changing teams is seen as the ultimate form of betrayal, punishable only by death, he is the only visiting player to receive as big a cheer when he is intoroduced at Old Trafford as any of the home team's players. They will always love him because he is a champion.

Gary Kirsten - The Great Man. 'Nuff said.

Palamidian 03-02-2005 05:39 PM

I'g going to have to go with a lot of you and say Michael Jordan, there was just something about that man. I'm also very fond of Bird and Sir Charles.

Cam Neely
Pedro Martinez of the late 1990's
Carlton Fisk
Larry Legend

WhosTajGray 03-04-2005 10:28 AM

How did George Brett not make anyones list? 20 years in one town, would have played for food money. 3100 hits, probably the best hitter of our generation (.318 career, hit .390, the highest since Williams went over .400), won a world series for.... Kansas City, gasp!

bond007 03-04-2005 02:59 PM

Roger Staubach -- aka, Captain America.

vbuser 03-05-2005 10:33 AM

Mario Lemieux, Steve Yzerman, Mats Sundin, Trevor Linden.

Yes, I only watch hockey :P

thatoneguy 03-05-2005 10:38 AM

Definitely Steve Yzerman (way to go vbuser for finally mentioning him :))
Also Joe Dumars

Stevie's playoff run a few years ago on one leg was one of the greatest I've ever seen.
