Has your team ever let you down?
Last night I witnessed the team I've followed all my life lose their most important game in years. Regardless of the sport in question, you have to wonder whether the athletes we idolise really could give a fuck about us fans, who pay their ridiculous salaries.
It's difficult to describe the gut wrenching disappointment I feel today. Try to imagine your girlfriend dumps you, for your best friend, on your birthday, and runs over your dog on her way out. It's not all doom and gloom though. If I consider this logically then I realise I am very much in the majority of sports fans. The English Premier League consists of 20 teams. Only one of which will win. That leaves 19 teams (or 95%) who won't win, or they will lose if you prefer. When Saturday comes I'll still be there, buying overpriced hot-dogs and cheering until I'm hoarse, with 52,191 other 'losers' safe in the knowledge that we are not alone. Last year. Leeds. 2-1. Man U sealed the title.
That and the All Blacks screwing up the Bledisloe cup decider every year since 98 (until this year HA! That mug is back where it belongs!). Oh, also whenever any team I bet on loses = frustration.

I'm an Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills fan. It's more like 'has your team ever lived up to your dreams?' for me!

That has to be mine, too.
Actually, Duke coming back from 12 points down to beat the Terps in OT, followed by their overcoming a 22 point halftime deficit in the national semifinal game is just as bad.

Yes, whenever I need my favorite teams to really come through for me (Cowboys, Stars, Longhorns, Spurs, Team USA Hockey) they always let me down. Altho the Spurs have been my bright spot this past year, they coulda had J-Kidd to Duncan and they screwed it up!

well... coming from a country where the main religion is SPORT... and this year being less than brilliant, i guess you could say that my team(s) have let me down a bit... but i don´t like to think that, because most of the time, they´ve just been outplayed.
take the Netball world championships this year. I love my Aussie netball girls. and up until this year, they´ve practically never lost. but in the finals, they actually lost to NZ... who deserved it. a let down, but its ok. and my beloved Rugby.... well, this year has seemed to have gone from one down point to another. with so many injuries and so many different tactical changes, theres been many let downs. but i can live with them.

I was a Mets fan growing up on Long Island. LOVED the 86 team. But when they got rid of Carter and Mex and Dykstra and all the guys I grew up rooting for, and brought in Vince Coleman and Bobby Bonilla and a bunch of other assholes, I just couldn't bring myself to root for them any more. I've been a Pirate fan ever since I saw them against Atlanta in 91 and since I moved here they've become the object of my affection.
More of a long-range "team broke my heart story" than your typical "my team lost, waaa waaa waaa" kind of story.

Well lets see, I am a Cleveland browns, indians, cavs fan and a cincinatti reds and bengals fan. The last championship we have had in those sports would be the red in 90 i believe. Indians would have won the world series a couple of time had it not been for one thing here and one thing there, like the strike. Well at least I have the Ohio State Buckeyes!!

Hey! I live in Chicago! We're ALWAYS let down! The Bears, Cubs, White Sox, and Blackhawks have all let us down at one time or another. That's why I follow H.S. and college sports now. No over paid, under performing cry babies.

Sure I've been let down when my team doesn't win it all but I root for the team not the individual players on that team. In todays world of free agents it doesn't pay to get too attached to anyone.

I'm from Michigan, so the area teams, college and pro, have consistently let me down. The Wings struggles have already been mentioned above and the Lions, Tigers and Pistons are a yearly dissapointment.
The Wolverines used to make a regular trip to the Rose Bowl, only to get killed on the field.

25 years of disappointment from my Seattle Mariners. More so in the past few year as they actually had a chance. It appears that they are well on their way to doing the same thing to us this year as well

The Eagles always get so damn close and then the game they loose it doesn't even look like they try. /sigh or I should say that the plays that are called seem to make no sense.

Miami....yesterday....I'm still in mourning so forgive me.
I'm starting to feel like an old grey-haired lady shaking my cane at the neighborhood kids running across my lawn as I smile in a bittersweet manner and say... "I remember back in '72"......
