We'll see. :D.

I looked in the papers and that Roberson was tearing it up, of course CA doesn't have the #1 defense, but those are some pretty nice stats.

Kansas State Comp Att Yds Pct Y/A Sack YdsL TD Int
E. Roberson 9 18 205 50.0 22.8 1 5 3 0

Kansas State Rush Yds Avg Lng TD Fum
E. Roberson 18 146 8.1 33 1 0

while you're quoting stats, how about the k-state d against california?? they scored 28 points against ksu defense! and CA SUCKS!

snyder is gonna make 'em work their asses off.

ell-train was very impressive as was sproles, but the d just let down so much!

and you know about the UT offensive players and how lethal they are.

The_Dude 08-26-2003 05:07 PM

and not to mention ksu's kicking/punting units :D

remember last yr vs texas in manhattan? (i actually wanted ksu to win that game cuz i wasnt in UT at that time and i used to live in kansas).

i checked their roster and looks like the same punter & kicker are coming back.

archer2371 08-26-2003 05:30 PM

Finally, something that The_Dude and I agree on!!! Let there be cheering in the streets, let us all rejoice!!! Anyways, yeah, KSU has no defense to speak of, if you let Cal even score 14 points on you, you should be ashamed. Anyways, KSU just doesn't have a chance in Austin, I'm sorry. This year should be Texas' year to be national champs, if they don't do it this year, next year is readily available too. Although, the Sooners have a pretty good chance at playing and winning the national championship. Anyways, it'll be either Texas or Oklahoma vs. Miami, and it won't be Miami that wins.

Reddevil63 08-26-2003 07:37 PM

it will be sweet kickin aTm @ kyle field this yr!

OU never saw any tapes of reggie mac in action.

if reggie starts for aTm, UT will have lots of tapes to scour thru.

Have to say that I'll vote in on the side of K-State for the UT-KSU discussion going on... sure KSU offense can put the points on the board the biggest question is the defense this year....I agree that "holding" CA to 21 or whatever they had last week isn't much to brag on and won't put a win in the books if they can't do better when they head to Texas

also, have you seen the ksu schedule strenghth?? it's in the hundred's out of 113.

they will have to rely heavily on the quality of win to get a decent bcs bowl.

and trust me, ksu will NOT blow out texas.

Grouper 08-27-2003 09:38 AM

UT/Mack Brown can't win a big game. Until they prove otherwise, no way I take Texas as national champs. I'd take Oklahoma over Texas all day!

omnigod 08-27-2003 10:32 AM

I wish KSU had a good punter last year, we would have won those two games that we lost. Seeing him kick durring the CA game he looked very improved, and yes, Synder is making them work their asses off.

The_Dude 08-27-2003 10:50 AM

i think roberson will win the heisman if he plays like he did against california.

Geoff 08-28-2003 12:01 PM

There is a little team...um....the sooners.......they have a small outside chance.....if they can make it past that high school team......North Texas

cementor 08-29-2003 06:55 AM

1) TERPS ... I don't think so. NIU 20 UM13 That's a loss I think you don't come back from!

2) Texas ...Nope they have a minor problem in the 2nd week of October. The 11th to be specific.

3) Ohio State... I think Clarretts situation alone would knock them out, but they can't possibly win ALL the close one's like they did last year.

4) Oklahoma .. My hearts choice, since I'm an alum. Will be great defensively and they'll have to be. Replacing the skills and a twice surgically repaired QB with a totally untested back up will be tough to overcome. They might just pull it off if the D scores twice a game. And this team is DEEP and Experienced. They won't get outcoached either and they won't play not to win. Somebody will have to play over their heads to beat um. Or in Texas ' case they will have to play to the full extent of their talent!!

5) Don't completely write off North Texas (particularly as a "High School " team. They finished last year with 7 straight wins including a bowl game. They won't pull and NIU, at least not this week!

6) K- State - Should be fun to watch the shoot ous , but the D has major issues! No way national title but will likely get to the Conference title game.

Best regards!! I love this time of year!! BOOMER SOONER #1 til someone proves otherwise!!

djtestudo 08-29-2003 09:08 AM

So...an 11-1 season, winning the ACC Championship, couldn't do anything to help? Especially since the conference has the automatic BCS bid? And the fact that the team has stuggled at the beginning the past two years before getting it together for the main part of the season?

Um, it's not like NIU sucks, they did win the MAC West or East or whatever last year, and they had a "legitimate" Heisman Cotender in "Turner the Burner". Think about it, if Maryland was at FULL strength, and didn't commit those penalties it would've been 13-10 MD.

Btw, you are too biased. :p.

Last year was lucky.

This year the Bucks are better. Look out.

Thanks for listening.

AL9045

At 11-1 they would still have a tall mountain due to the ranking after thisa week. They might get a shot , but a bunch of folks have to lose to get them in the hunt. As an case in point the initially 20th ranked Sooners of 2000 had to go 12-0 to get a shot at FSU, Don't be suprised if UM drops into the 20 + range (probably without justification), but these days its' tough to recover and you don't control your own destiny anymore. I hope they do go 11-1 but I'd be suprised. I kinda like that crew and I really like the coach. He seems like a good guy.

I wasn't talking about a National Championship, but this year, it looks like to me, no team will go undefeated, leaving it up in the air, all the conferences look very competitive, and with Miami, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech playing each other, it's very possible to see all the teams lose at least one. And in the other conferences it's also up in the air.

I see losing the first game as a blessing, rather than losing the last one.

We'll see, the Big 12 has always had crazy championship games, and it's possible that teams will lose.

The_Dude 08-29-2003 06:54 PM

i feel like a big 12 team will go undefeated.

either ksu or ut or ou.

one of them will make it to the natl championship.

djtestudo 08-29-2003 09:33 PM

Nah.

KSU plays too many cupcakes that they won't be ready for a real team.

Only one of Texas and Oklahoma has a shot, and I doubt either ends up undefeated.

I think there could be 8 or 9 11-1 teams this year. Maryland could have the advantage, as they lost early, while a lot of others won't lose until November.

AL9045 08-30-2003 06:26 AM

I agree, losing early is the key as opposed to losing late, if you lose early, you drop down the rankings, but you have a chance to recover in the next 11 or so games, if you go 11-0 and drop, you have no way of moving back up the rankings, until the post season rankings that is.

present_future 08-30-2003 08:03 PM

i'm definitely going to go with oklahoma
what with their awesome D and all...

Sion 08-31-2003 01:41 AM

as a Ohio State fan and alumnus of that fine school, I have to say that last nights total dismantling of #17 Washington suggests that the Buckeyes are right back on track, and that the Clarett situation is not going to be a significant distraction.

I see them winning the Big Ten fairly easily. And I dont see anyone on their schedule whom they cannot beat. 12-0 baby!!!! The only question is how the BsCS rankings will come out and whether it will put them in the title game. I think it will.

The_Dude 08-31-2003 06:49 PM

TEXAS WILL WIN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

OMFG! i went to the game and texas just plain OWNED.

even our 2nd string qb, vince young, scored 2 td's! OMG!

cementor 08-31-2003 07:24 PM

Dear Dude,

It was NMSU pleeeze, Yes the Horns look good, but lets' see how trhings progress. It is a long season with a number of potential disasters.

Sion,

I thought the Bucks looked very impressive, but I also think that was a HIGHLY over rated Washington squad ( the Newweasel situation has obviously taken its toll). Those guys couldn't catch the clap in a backwoods brothel. I started feeling sorry for Pickett. Mr. Krenzel on the other hand is very savvy and has some darned good help even if Clarrett isn't in the mix. Don't forget UM they have experience and a solid team, though I think they are the only Big Ten team to give the Bucks a run. Maryland Washington and Auburn were the biggest "suprises" of the weekend. USC looks darned good too (and I'm not just talking about the POM squad).

The_Dude 08-31-2003 07:30 PM

yes it was NMSU, but they had a + record the last season.

and after i saw what vince young can do, i'm a believer.

i started believing even more after i saw the texas defense in action.

*sings "I'm a believer..."

cementor 08-31-2003 08:07 PM

I know how you feel. Seeing the Sooners second teamer was a huge relief. Paul Thompson, you will love him he's fast and has a gun. If the White goes down as he has in the last 2 years. Actually, seeing UT's second QB was pretty much the same type of player. Looking forward to the 11th of October!!

Boomer

Damnyankee 09-02-2003 11:59 AM

Michigan has an easy enough schedule to get there, but I don't think they'll win. As for OSU walking through the Big Ten last year, you must have missed the Michigan game. Michigan dominated both sides of the ball but could not score

djtestudo 09-02-2003 02:49 PM

OSU didn't walk through anything last year, and won't this year. Neither will Michigan, for that matter.

The NC won't be from the Big 10. Probably from either the Big 12 or ACC.

Damnyankee 09-03-2003 06:37 AM

I agree the Big 12 is awful tough this year. Anybody but the SEC!

phyzix525 09-03-2003 07:02 AM

OHIO STATE with out a doubt has one of the best teams this year. It has the best coach in the country and the best defense in the country. Nobody can beat them this year, this is not the bucks of past, there are no joey galloways running there mouths, or jon coopers calling obvious plays. This year we have a passing game and running with or without clarret.
GO BUCKS!!!

Damnyankee 09-03-2003 07:10 AM

phyzix525 09-03-2003 10:19 AM

True, but look at who our coach was. Same players with a different coach = different outcome. Don't forget the boys who beat you 2 years ago where coopers. Leadership is important.
Tressel is the man.

Damnyankee 09-04-2003 05:12 AM

I agree, Tressel is the man. Anyway, lets hope both are undefeated going into the last game....I can't wait!:D

phyzix525 09-04-2003 06:21 AM

yeah I know that would be great. Talk about the best game of the year. Does mich play wiscon or minn this year?

Damnyankee 09-04-2003 07:09 AM

Michigan plays Minn in October, but not Wisc. The big games are going to be Notre dame & Iowa away.

Simms wasnt exactly the most popular guy on campus. I've heard that people have threatened him when he "choked" and left nasty messages on his answering machine.

On the other hand, Chance Mock enjoyed a HUGE amount of popularity on campus and the UT forums before and after the first game (a majority still believe he should start, including me). Vince Young is also riding the popularity wave among the fans.

So, to answer your question, no.

He became more and more disliked after he replaced Major and then started "choking". As true fans would do, we didnt make the dissent public and visible to the enemy.

I dont think anyone has a QB controversy in mind. Mock is now a jr and has been on the waiting list for much more longer than Young, and thus is more deserving.

Vince Young did more than throw that pass. His running game was truely amazing.

RoadRage 09-06-2003 09:18 PM

Scratch Maryland and Auburn from the contenders, even if they manage to win their respective conferences.

I foresee the Oklahoma-Texas winner having about a 2/3 chance of being in the Sugar Bowl, with Oklahoma State playing the potential spoiler to either Oklahoma or Texas.

The_Dude 09-06-2003 09:49 PM

Miami, OSU and ND had trouble beating weaker opponents at home today.

I think that somebody will beat these teams on the road.

Hrothgar 09-06-2003 10:35 PM

Nah. Usually you have one chance to knock off a top rated team. Once you don't momentum sets in and they roll.

And the "weak" Gators would give alot of teams fits. San Diego State and Washington State are not in Florida's league.

Artermis 09-07-2003 06:13 PM

Michigan always disappoints?

I believe they won it in 1997.

OSU is a pretender. Barely beating a SDSU team with their 2nd team QB and the offense not scoring a touchdown. Very sad.

While the best team probably is in the Big 12 I think the fact that you will all beat up on each other makes it that much tougher for you all. Dont forget Colorado they are looking pretty good early season. KSU is the weakest out of OU, UT, CU because they dont play anyone. Division II teams? Give me a break.

FSU could have a real shot since I do not think the ACC is nearly as good as it was last year but they still got a tough schedule. WF seems to be the 2nd best team in the conference right now.

Tennessee looks very good and they beat a very game Marshall team who always gets overlooked. Georgia also looks half way decent. Florida choked against UM and that is going to hurt them. Auburn showed how much of a joke they were.

USC gave up 18 points to BYU so there goes the theory if they cannot score. Pac10 is the weakest big time conference this year. ASU is the only other team with a shot.

UM, VT and Pitt all very good but I think VT comes out of that whole thing in the best shape.

Wisconsin was not very impressive against Akron...sure they score 40+ but they gave up 30+. You should not give up that many points to a 2nd tier team (Marshall is a lot better than Akron).

In the end I see VT versus U of Michigan in the championship game (be great if one Big 12 came out undefeated also so that we could have a big ass fight about the BCS..:)

Damnyankee 09-08-2003 05:32 AM

Great post artermis! Yep, I've been pretty impressed with Michigan so far. After the defense was rediculed, they stepped up and shut down Houston who could not do a thing. I would still like to see better results with the passing game. The power running game and Michigans defense is going to give a lot of teams fits this year.

GO BLUE!

You forget that UF (florida) vs Miami is a big rival game, and being down 23 points to the gators is a pretty big hole to be in... that was PURE talent from miami (brock berlin) to come back and win...

Florida wasnt that bad...

Miami was THAT GOOD!!!

yes i am a hurricanes fan, but i do give an honest opinion and the benefit of the doubt to other teams, though i hope that miami goes undefeated, there is a good chance that there wont be ANY undefeated teams this year.... but i still feel that Miami will be playing for the National Championship for the 3rd straight year...

Oh and by the way, whoever missed this game, missed one of the best games of this Century... that was by far the best game i ever saw (it might have something to do with being at the game, a lot more emotions and involvement).... those commercial breaks were deadly they felt like an hour long

The_Dude 09-09-2003 06:38 PM

if miami trailed by 23 points at home, i dont know know they would do against better teams on the road.

SAM821 09-13-2003 07:01 PM

So much for Texas winning it all huh....

ToiletDuck 09-13-2003 07:22 PM

LOL, what are you saying? God is only good enough to get into a state college?:D

Tressel seems to have a deep bag of magic. I would have enjoyed watching what Tressel could have done with the talent the past 10+ years at OSU compared to Cooper.

SAM821 09-14-2003 03:41 PM

OSU's "magic" is called having the referee's on your side..They were LUCKY in the fiesta bowl (you know which call im talking about) and they were lucky yesterday...

Personally I hate when penalties (referees) change the course of the game with judgment calls like holdings and pass interference

Ohio State will go down VERY soon, where even the referees wont be able to do their "MAGIC"... wait till they play Michigan

"Miami won first..."

The_Dude 09-14-2003 03:44 PM

Since texas is out of the running for most practical reasons, I think that OU/KSU or whoever wins the big 12 conf game will win it all.

phyzix525 09-15-2003 07:36 AM

Now I saw the national title game, and even if you disagree with the call in the endzone, there was a couple dozen calls that should have been made against miami that were not called, mostly holding penalties.

OSU did not intercept that ball saturday, it was too bad that call was made, but not long after that the refs called a fumble by Santanio holmes. That was not a fumble, so they ended up with excellect field position and was able to get the tying touchdown. Not to mention the refs called like 12 penalties for 125 yards, that does not sould like they were on our side.

I don't think that OSU is ready for Mich yet, if they played today I really doubt it would be much of a game. But its not till the end of the year and OSU is only going to get better!

Artermis 09-15-2003 02:59 PM

I just want to say the week before that OSU had as many penalties as they did this last weekend. I think that they need to get much more discplined as the refs did not call a good game.

The fumble was inconclusive...at least all the replays I saw, while the INT was clearly not an INT.

The biggest problem with the game were the announcers. Do they hate OSU or was just me. I am a huge Michigan fan and I thought they were horrible and that they should not be allowed to call anymore OSU games unless they can call a fair game.

Michigan looks tough... really tough !

UnseenX 09-17-2003 01:14 PM

Miami Hurricanes because I'm a hurricanes fan. Michigan look sreally good though and seem to be the team of the moment. If they continue winning ESPN will keep hyping them up, so lets see if they can deal with the pressure.

bundy 09-17-2003 05:14 PM

ok,
so i´m new to this... but i´m liking the look of Kansas State, and Georgia.
oh, and don´t forget Tennessee!!

Shpoop 09-17-2003 05:15 PM

um......... UF

yes miami came back and won, and congrats to them but ron zooks prevent defense was that preventative.... couldnt prevent 24 points

and in four years......... definitely uf

Damnyankee 09-18-2003 06:15 AM

Gods team is Ohio State??? WTF does that mean? I thought Notre Dame was gods team???? Either way.....GO BLUE!!!:hmm:

Artermis 09-18-2003 02:58 PM

Kansas state really needs to play someone.

Virginia tech needs to play someone (they finally are tonight with Texas A&M).

USC really needs to play someone. Auburn does not count because they looked just as bad the next week.
