How screwed are the Jets?
Pennington looks to be out at least 12 weeks, even though it's his non-throwing hand (or so I heard, don't know if that's true)
They've still got the old warhorse Testaverde and they're looking to trade for another addled veteran, but with C-Mart also aging, does anyone see good things for the J-E-T-S this year? |
testaverde has proved he is good.
and they're not as screwed as atlanta. |
Jets who in the hell cares Its DA Bears Baby were due
|
You know how losing Vick for a few weeks affects the Falcons? This is like a thousand times worse for the Jets, especially with all the other players they lost in the offseason, like Chad Morton, who is probably the best kick returner in the game. Of course, as a Bills fan, I'm glad that the Jets are now out of what was the tightest division race this year.

Um, they went 1-1 with Johnson, which isn't horrible, but could be better.
I don't think the Jets are that screwed though, Testeverde is just one of those players who either gets really hot or really cold. Usually really cold, but he's been in the league long enough to know the ropes... I think losing Coles is going to hamper them even more now. |
Testaverde will be fine ... I'm a Giant fan, now THEY would be screwed if they lost Collins ... I can't imagine that.
The Jets with Vinny won't be that hurt |
I think Vinny will do decent. The Jets have a lot of things to worry about though. They lost their number one receiver (Coles) and I think that hurts even more.
|
Yeah, I was talking to this guy and he said that losing Coles meant nothing, he said their other receivers could easily fill the void by Coles.
Man, Coles is doing great for the preseason, and it looks like he'll have a even better year this year. |

The Jets will have a rough go of it. Miami, New England, and Buffalo count for six games of their season. They may not win one of those.
I think it depends on how healthy they can stay. If Testaverde goes down, or Curtis Martin takes a fall, look out. |
For the most part, there is a reason why someone is the backup instead of the starter. Granted, there is a rare circumstance when the backup will step in and not only not lose a step, but actually improve the team. (Kurt Warner stepping in for an injured Trent Green comes to mind.....and then Marc Bulger stepping in for an injured Warner---weird) When Pennington took over for Testaverde, it actually sparked the Jets. Why would anyone think bringing Vinny back in would benefit NY??
Obviously, NY is in a slightly better situation than Atlanta. For the Falcons, Michael Vick is there offense. With the Jets, Curtis Martin can carry a bit more of the load. New York won't make the playoffs. This opens up the the division for the Dolphins and opens up another wild card spot for another team. |
