Robinson for Sura!!!!! WTF

I am a big fan of Uncle Cliffy and I for one don't understand this deal... We give up Pepe and Cliff for Bob Sura. Who is nothing more than a sub par Jon Barry Clone.. I just dont understand this move... Your comments...

What... I just don't understand the logic behind that trade at all. I mean they gave up Clifford Robinson, a future hall of famer IMHO, and Pepe Sanchez for Bob Sura? I... just need to lie down. I'm just shocked by it.

Pistons needed to clear some room in the frontcourt. They were very top heavy with Wallace/Campbell/Darko/Rebraca/Okur/Williamson/Uncle Cliff.

They also needed a player to take over Jon Barry's role from last year. Sura is in the last year of his contract and is rather overpaid so the Pistons will clear cap space and be able to re-sign the core of Milicic/Prince/Okur when their contracts come up. Sura is a decent player and should fill their need ideally. They don't want to be in the same situation as the Pacers were when they had to trade Brad Miller due to salary cap issues.

Uncle Cliff is a great player and has been awesome for the Pistons over the last few years. It's sad that he couldn't play out his career in Detriot but it is definitely a good move for the Pistons long-term. I think they'll miss him a little next year but looking much further than that it's hard to see.

JTC said it pretty well but let me add a couple of things.

Sura is a MUCH better defender than Barry was. He can also play the 1 slot, which allows Joe to move Chucky at some point.

Cliff is a no rebounding big man and Wallace needed help there and that is why Elden was brought in.

Also the salary cap thing was huge. Sura's 5 mil comes off the book next year and now that gives Detroit some wiggle room when it comes to signing Okur next season.

I watched the playoffs and I heard that Cliff played in them but I do not remember seeing him on the floor.

I was also very surprised with this trade.......... Cliff is a great player and hit some clutch 3's last season. But, wit them getting Darko, I think this trade will help the Pistons in the long run.
