faulk is a big question mark this yr. last yr, he didnt perform up to his full potential and i'll reserve judgement on him till i see him play.
right now, my votes would be to ricky williams and preist holmes (i'm biased though, since they're both from texas! Hook 'em!)

When he's healthy, Priest Holmes. Marshall Faulk is a great running back and could be number one, but he needs to get back into old form rather than how he played last season.

Ricky Williams was a stud last year. I was at the Pats/Phins season ending game and Williams carried that team. He was unstoppable! Thankfully, Dave Wanstadt (sp?) decided to go away from Williams and the Pats came back and won that game.
Faulk is just sick. Plain and simple. |

Williams and Holmes in a tie.
Ahman Green and Faulk get injured too much, LT and Clinton Portis haven't shown they are as reliable as Williams and Holmes yet. Shaun Alexander is a slight notch below. Edgerrin James needs to prove himself again and show his knee is 100% before he's back on the list, when he is, he's with Williams and Holmes.

Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

Williams, with Holmes slightly behind due to his injury last year.
Don't forget Jamal Lewis. He's an injury risk but he can run like Jeroime Bettis with actual speed. He DID beat out Priest Holmes here in Baltimore. If he stays healthy he will have 1500 yards this year.

Holmes rocks. If he bounces back from sugery there is no better back.
Other than him it is a toss-up

Priest and Ricky are great, but I'd still take Marshall Faulk over both of them.
I'd just like to add that I think it's great that Ricky is doing so well. The stupid ass Cleveland Browns should have picked him, but they wasted their pick on a QB who won't even start. ![]() It seems that everyone agrees on who the top three backs are coming into this season. |

Best pure runner-i'd have to say ricky williams, he's got the size and speed, plus he's got dreadlocks
Best all around back-Faulk, without a doubt

amos zeroue could be a sleeper this year, with the benching of bettis... and besides the obvious choices, Clinton Portis quietly had 1508 rushing yards and 15 rushing TDs as a rookie.
but as for the best RB in the NFL, i'll say marshall faulk even though he didnt have a very good season last year... he just has the most pure talent and athleticism out of any back. he can do it all |
