Heisman Watch

there are only 2 peeps on my list now and they are

1) Roy Williams - Texas

he's been amazing every time he catches the ball. after the catch, he runs for even more. he's my favorite candidate.

2) Ell Roberson - Kansas State

he can throw the ball as well as run it. k-state has always been good on the ground and always has running qb's.

3) Maurice Clarett - Ohio State

he's run real well last yr and if he does it again this yr, he'll have a shot @ heisman (but he will only be a soph, how will that play into the consideration?)

------

that's the 3 that i've seen make some spashes. i mostly follow top25 and the big 12, so i could be missin out here.

so, who else has a chance?

Bruce Perry - Maryland

He had an unbelieveable sophmore year to take over from Lamont Jorden. Was injured late that year which carried over through much of last year.

Is hurt at the moment but if he only misses one or two games watch for him to run all over the ACC.

Keep an eye on Kellen Winslow out of Miami....that guy is a gamebreaker, he'll catch over 70 balls, 100 is not out of the question either....

Ben Roelthisberger (sp.) Miami of Ohio.

I would love to see Winslow get the Heisman, but I think he has to get past the preconcieved notion that some of the voters have--if the player isn't a QB or a RB, they rarely get noticed. Sure the occasional WR will slip through, but a TE?? That would be a stretch.

Charles Woodson won it while at Michigan, but he had to have an outrageous season, alongwith a lack of strong candidates, to win.

There will be plenty of good QBs, RBs, and WRs this year, so I doubt a TE could make it unless he starts breaking records.

Peyton Manning is not a strong candidate? yea right.

If he was, he would've beaten him.

zenmaster10665 08-21-2003 05:23 AM

Philip Rivers - NCState.

Give him a few years, but Marcus Vick.

djtestudo 08-21-2003 07:05 PM

Not once he's in the ACC and has Wesley Jefferson's # permanently implanted on his body ;)

Are you referring to his time at Tennessee? Or are you thinking about younger brother Eli at Ol Miss?

Eli has a chance, but I don't think the team will be successful enough to keep him near the top of the list.

Maybe Archie Manning has a chance. :D
