Do you like the yankees?
I am just curious after having a conversation on where you stand. Someone said if you're not a Yankee fan, you must hate them.

nope. and it's cuz of the money they have.
it's not really fair when the yankee pitchers are worth as much as entire lineups of other teams.

Dude you are talking about the money they have but yet the Rangers spent 250 on one player and what do they have to show for it?
I hate the Yankees but not because of money. How many owners out there have money but refuse to spend any of it to make their team better (ie Sterling with the Clips...he had to spend the money this year because there is a minimum salary cap in basketball also). I hate the Yankees because I think George is a big retard and have really hated them since Billy Martin was there coach all 200 times. I compare the Yankees to that commerical where they say, "dont hate me because I am beautiful"....and I add to it...hate me because I am a stuck up snobby person who thinks I am better than you. When I win the 1 billion dollar big game I am buying the yankees and releasing everybody, then I am buying a rookie team and promoting them all to MY yankees.
Hummm Stankees in the basement, It will be like the 60's and 70's, as when CBS owned the team.

They are everything that is wrong with baseball...huge payroll, they buy every decent free agent there is, and they still haven't won a World Series in the past few years. I love it when the upstarts knock them down. Hell, my Reds took two of three from them.

I love it.
Steinbrenner, the Yanks, the Ghost of Ruth, and we the fans, FEED off all the Yankee-hating energy. If major league owners and GM's put one tenth the energy they expend whining about the Yankees into shaping up their roster, there'd be so much more of your precious "parity" in baseball. Only Brian Epstein of the Sox seems to know how to compete with the Yankees, and that's using free agency and smart trades to stack your roster against theirs. Only problem with that is, that the Sox are cursed and therefore his efforts are in vain. Michael Ilitch owns of the Detroit Tigers, who are on their way to setting the season record for losses in a season. Why? Right, no talent on the team. How come? Is Ilitch broke? Can't afford to hire quality players? Ilitch owns Little Caesar's Pizza, which is the third largest pizza chain the the world, behind Pizza Hut and Dominos. It generates over 1.3 BILLION DOLLARS in sales per year. He's got the money. Ilitch also owns the Detroit Red Wings, perennial Stanley Cup contenders, and another team often accused of "buying" championships. Their payroll is one of the highest in the NHL, at $67M. Yet Ilitch pays the Tigers one of the lowest combined salaries in baseball, $59M, and continues to seek ways to cut payroll. In other words, the Tigers don't HAVE to suck. Their owner has demonstrated that he cares about winning, and will spend the money necessary to bring in free agents who will sell tickets, generate revenue, increase fan interest, and in turn, bring home championships. Just not with his baseball team. -Mikey |

Oh man, I didn't think this would turn into... well, this. Obviously you love them or hate them pretty much.
I think it's dumb to hate a team because of how much money they have. They are a great team with great management. It's just hard to understand the logic.

I didn't vote in the poll, because there is not an option to match my feelings. I don't like the Yankees, but I do respect them. 26 championships. That averages out to about 1 every 4 years, over a hundred years. Has any other team been that good for that long in any other sport, ever? I know everyone says that they buy their teams (which they do) but so do many, many other teams, and no one else seems to be able to pull it off. I know I will probably get flamed for this, but in the world of baseball, they stand head and shoulders above everyone else.

One other team: The Montreal Canadians.
And as for respecting them, you have to unless you're a Sox fan. Even I RESPECT them...I just hate them with a passion that won't end until Steinbrenner is molderin' in the grave.

It really just seems like the people that hate them are jealous which isn't very surprising. The people that said they at least respect them says a lot though.

I used to hate them, I used to hate them very much. But since the Diamondbacks beat them in the World Series, my anger has subsided. I can't hate a team that buys players, since that's what the D-Backs are trying to do, they just don't have quite as much money, so they are having to develop some talent too.

Sadly, that doesn't happen near enough.

It also allows them to cover up MANY talent judgement errors. ie. all that money to Drew Henson to be a bust - they just acquire Aaron Boone. Jeff Weaver isn't what we thought so lets spend $32m on Jose Contreras - oh wait he is performing is hurt etc..., no problem we'll get Benitez - oh he's not what we thought, we'll eat that money and get Jeff Nelson..... Don't like Raul Mondesi anymore, eat his contract and send him out of town.. same with Rondell White, Sterling Hitchcock...... the list goes on and on of those "talent judgements" which other teams would have to live with. They could take the "gamble" on unknowns like Soriano and Matsui with out worrying about "what happens if they don't adjust to the major leagues..." All that being said, yes I am a red sox fan. |

I think there are probably more yankee haters than lovers, even in NJ, the remnants of the Brooklyn Dodgers and NY Giants left 2/3 of fans choosing a new team, and most picked the Mets...
Now that the Yankees are winning every year (kind of) they're getting more younger fans though |
