Ben Wallace DPOFTY?
I think it's bullshit that Ben Wallace got Defensive Player of the Year. He might get some blocks and some boards but to me rebounds are offense. Ron Artest might have some mental problems but Ron can shut down anyone in the league and score 20+, Ben can't average over 7 points a game. Did you see the gap in scoring?

Ben = defense. Look at the Pistons points allowed (lowest in league) for proof of that.
Rebounds are great defense , they give you possession and take you off D! They put you in a position where you can't be scored on, what better defense is there than that? |

Not easy to give the award to Ron Artest. Remember, these guys at the league office are image conscience. I like the way Wallace plays, hes no saint either. I just think Artest is a hard sell as DPOFTY, because his behavior caused his team to lose games.

Dikembe Motumbo used to win it averaging fewer points than Big Ben...that's what it's called DEFENSIVE player of the year. Hit the boards, block some shots and make some steals--then collect your trophy. Wallace can change a game, although he's not a scoring threat, he's a deserving winner of the award.
I can't wait for the debate when the league MVP is announced!!!
