Arizona Cardinals do it again

ESPN artical on the Cardinal's latest move

Basically, the cardinals signed the second of their two first round picks to a contract that used up most of their rookie allotment and have no where near enough money to sign the guy they selected with their first pick.

How can a team botch the contracts this badly? The guy they selected with the 17th pick is screwed because as far as I can tell there is nothing the Cardinals can do. Maybe they can trade the WR, but they would be lucky to get anything of value back. Most reports said he was a big reach at 17 to start with, and the Cardinals would be in no position to do anything but beg. What options does the team have?

Have the Cardinals done anything to improve their team this offseason?

It doesn't matter what the Cardinals do, they're going to go no where because the owner has about as much intelligence as a Cardinal.

Anyone that chooses to sign with Arizona as a free agent is either A) an idiot, B) insane or C) senile (COUGH Emmitt COUGH)

The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"

Or just wants more money and doesn't care about winning or his legacy...

or cares solely about trying to put his record out of reach, even if it is by getting 200 yards a season while his team loses.
anyway, it seems like the Cardinals organization, not the coach or players, tries to lose.

Billy Bidwell has done it again.

Just wait until he moves the team to LA and dies shortly thereafter, giving someone else the chance to lead them to success.

The Bidwills are a sad excuse for owners. year after year they don't give their unsigned draft picks their worth until well into the first month of the nfl season. This causes so many problems in terms of player development and team chemistry. They should just sell already, or become a corporation like the packers

I can't believe they did that. I bet the fucking coaches at Arizona State and the Athletic Director from there could do a better fucking job than the Cardinal's management. As a cowboys fan, It hurts me to say it, but Emmitt is washed up. How could anyone want to sign him? It should have been a message to him to retire when the fucking Cardinals were the only team that wanted his ass. They'll take anyone they can get, even if its straight out of high school.

I try and I try and I try but every time I think I am going to become a Cards fan they pull some dumbass stunt like this. What a bunch of asshats.

This is the sort of thing that keeps the Cardinals in it's horrid place at teh bottom of the league year after year. Jake Plummer must be thanking his lucky stars every night that he got the heck out of there! Another case of a bad, mismanaged team with shitty coaches and players bringing a great QB down with it. I bet Jake "the Snake" will do great in a quality organization like Denver.

Turns out the Cardinals managed to sign the WR with some creative contract involving easily met escalators. I think they got lucky that the player and agent decided to just get a deal done instead. Still wonder what the players attitude towards the organization is and how this will effect future negotiations with this guy and others.

I have to step up to defend Emmitt. He may not be everything that he once was, but he will get alot more than 200 yds./year. Frankly, I think the Cowboys would have done better last year had they used him more. Anyone remember the Thanksgiving game against the Redskins AFTER he got the record? The cowboys just could not keep him and pay him the money he wants while trying to rebuild. I bet he surpises alot of people this year.

I think Emmitt is going to disappoint people this year simply because the team around him is so bad. He doesn't have the ability to consistently dominate a game like he once did.

Yeah exactly his team really sucks. His line is worse than the Cowboys' last year. You can't be a good runner if your team sucks, unless you're Corey Dillon.

Just remember, the Cardinals are upset because the Bungles stole the title as the worst team of the last decade. This should show them.

Now, their set to screw up the first pick in next year's draft. They should be a lock to win that pick.

The Bidwells are dumb shits, on that I know we all can agree.

Emmitt Smith will get 1200 yards with the Cardinals this year, 500 more than he would have in Dallas, due almost exclusively to a bigger and better offensive line. But even if he doesn't, he's already paid for both years of the contract by the extra butts in the seats this year. A rare smart move on the Cardinals' part.

Pace should have been a third rounder. He certainly deserves less money than he got.

If the Cards move to LA, will there be more Rams fans or Cardinals fans in the seats?

I doubt that Emmitt will get anywhere near 1200 yards. I am not sure at this point in his career he is that good anymore, and perhaps more importantly, the Cardinals offense will likely be terrible. It is sad to see a player like Emmitt end is career as a sideshow attraction in an effort to get more fans in the seats. Was this really the best move for a rebuilding team? They need players that could develop into future starters. Not one or two year fixes.

Emmitt will be lucky to get 1,000 yards this year.

He's still a decent, above-average running back. He has a better offensive line. But he has ZERO support, can anyone name a Cardinal receiver that is decent? Not a chance. 8 in the box every play.

Eight in the box can make even mediocre receivers look good, plus it reduces Jeff Blake's interception numbers. Besides, this might be the chance one of the unknown WRs has been needing to have a breakout season.

Dallas will probably be running 8-in-the-box for the first couple of series. We'll see how they do with it.
