What is going on with the KC Royals?

I realize that they've won all of these games against the Indians (bad), the Tigers (worse), and the White Sox, but they still look impressive.

They have a bunch of youngsters with talent and if they keep clicking I think they might be able to finish close to .500 in that weak division.

Any predictions from anyone else?

It was a fluke. Trust me, they are not that good. They have been playing other cellar dwellars and when they finally see some actual competition they'll look REALLY bad.

Also, FEAR DA CUBBIES!

Good lord! I guess I can't put any stock into the maniacal ramblings of a Cubs fan. (Just kidding)

But I agree, though because they play in the weakest division in baseball, and with teh unbalanced schedule, they might be "respectable".

I would just like to bring up the fact that the Indians last year started I believe 11-2, then our season when right now the crapper. If we are still talking about the royals in August then I'll believe.

They will probably go down the crapper after the all-star break because they have an entire starting rotation of rookies that have not had to endure a 162 game schedule. Also, if someone big like Sweeney or Beltran gets hurt, you can bet that they are done for.

they've done it with immpresive rookie pitching. their's and the cubs pitching staff were the talk of the Cactus League during spring training. I read that on Peter Gammons column. Whether they can keep it up for 162 games this year remains to be seen but it's a hint of what their future is going to be, as long as they can keep Sweeny from leaving.

That was actually funny, my wife thinks the same thing with whatever I am talking about. Oh well, one of the attributes of being a Cub fan is being really jaded. ;)

It was likely a fluke, but if you ride a fluke long enough, it suddenly becomes an influential win streak that spells playoffs. :)

Beltran has been on the DL since the season started, he just came off yesterday. They did this without him. Interestingly enough, he went 0-4 with a walk his first game back.

I agree though... winning all these games has to be a big confidence boost for this group of kids that everyone wrote off before the season started. But when they play the powerhouses in the AL East and West, then we'll see what they're really made of.

BOSTON (AP) -- Kansas City pitchers tied the modern major league record by hitting three batters in one inning, and the Boston Red Sox capitalized in a three-run ninth for a 5-4 win Wednesday night.

The Royals took a 4-2 lead in the top of the ninth on Ken Harvey's two-run single. Then the Red Sox had to face Mike MacDougal, who had 10 saves in 11 chances this season.

The winning run scored on first baseman Mike Sweeney's error on Jason Varitek's one-out grounder, but that was the last of many mistakes by the Royals, who had two errors and threw a wild pitch in the inning.

Is this the start of the Royals showing their true colors??

Jadey 05-01-2003 12:45 AM

But, one way to look at it, is that the more they win, the more they gain confidence. And with such a young team playing with confidence, they will surely become a better team becuase of this early winning. Whether that translates to wins later in the year is another question.

I never got my hopes up. haha. I just enjoyed the streak. Heres something to think about though. They have some young talent, it may blossom into greatness, but the Royals will never shell out the money to keep it. Isn't their team salary less than what Alex Rodriguez makes? Its got to be close anyway. hehe.
