Dusty Baker Comments
I found what Dusty Bakers said to be true, and think he's right for not buckling under preassure and taking back what he said.
People of darker skin color are darker because...they have more exposure to sunlight. So it's logical to think that they would be more comfortable in being outside in the sun longer then people of lighter skin tones. Maybe it was wrong to mention race, because even within a race there's varying skin tones. Asians like Koreans and Japanese from the Hokkaido region are very pale compared too Indians and South Indochina. Point is....I support Dusty. |
I heard this discussion on ESPN radio yesterday. Dusty is taking fire because ANY time you make a generalization (good or bad) about an ethnic group you are going to ruffle some feathers. I think Dusty gets off the hook though since he belongs to that group. It's the situation where it's more accepted to make remarks about your own culture that would not be okay if someone else made them. Say, if a white coach had made the exact same remarks there'd be a much bigger outrage and a call for the guy to get fired.
I remember back in 1988 when Jimmy the Greek, a white CBS sports commentator, got fired for saying that blacks made better athletes, particularly runners and jumpers because they were "bred" to have stronger, thicker hips and legs. His exact quote was, "During the slave period, the slave owner would breed his big black with his big woman so that he would have a big black kid–that's where it all started." Furthermore, it was Martin Luther King's birthday when he said it. Yeah, he got fired the next day. -Mikey |
yeah...it's partially true though too. There are subtle differences between the races.
Black people I think have two calf muscles, or their sheared, compared to one for the other races. This allows for faster sprinting, and more leg control. I find it interesting, and the differences don't matter when it comes too people anywho |
I am just glad he is standing by his statement. I get so tired of seeing people backtrack when the news agencies make a big deal out of it. If that is what he believes, fine.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the comments were cause for any sort of uproar. But you can't make comments like that, period. I don't care what your skin color is, your background is, etc. In a highly visible leadership position, you can't publically speak about things that aren't politically correct. It's not about whether he was right (probably was) or not. You just don't go there. |
Dusty Baker is one of the best coaches in the league. What he said was so minor, but leave it to the media to blow some shit outta perportion. what he said is true!! But for some reason whenever someone in the limelight even hints at something racial People get crazy----Why??
Get over it people, and accept people for who they are |
who gives a shit

Does anyone remember what happened to Jimmy the Greek when he made a similar type of comment some time ago...
