Molina's cycle
It was a sweet moment when Bengie Molina hit a tri to complete the cycle in the eighth ending. What made it even sweeter is the Bengie has been called (and rightly so) one of the slowest runners in the league. But that didn't stop the Ranger's catcher for hoofing it to third to get the cycle.
Not to say luck was on the big guy's side when he hit the double in the fourth off the glove of the Red Sox right fielder and a triple in the eighth off the glove of center fielder, and the triple really only would have happened at Fenway; because it is so big. Lucky or not, he pulled it off. the only opponent to hit for the cycle at Fenway Park in 22 years. and is the first catcher since Chad Moeller on April 27, 2004, to hit for the cycle. all in all. it was a great game (Especially if you a Ranger fan, like me ) For those of you who don't know Hitting for the cycle is a baseball term when a player hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. |
Sweet for us Yankee fans, too!!!! Great for one of the good guys in baseball.

Pretty F'n cool, although as a Sox fan and I can't say it didn't burn me up a bit...really how can Patterson not hold on to a fly ball? OH look its in his glove and now its on the ground...how does that happen? oh that's right, he's TERRIBLE! :D All kidding aside it was fun to watch him do it, its not something you get to see everyday.
Anyway pretty exciting year for the Rangers huh? Picking up Cliff Lee, making a real run at the post season and hearing whispers of a World Series, which I think would be a first in Rangers history wouldn't it? Enjoy the ride, it should be a fun second half for Rangers fans. |

Don't even ask me how the hell we landed Lee, But I'm glad we did. our bullpen was getting tired and needed fresh blood. I think somebody somewhere made a deal with the devil. ethier that or Washington's coaching is really, really great. |
I was actually at that game on Friday (front row, natch :) ) and I have to say that it was a little bit of gift scoring/luck that he got the double and the triple. Both should have been caught (especially the 2b, as JD usually is a sure handed fielder) but you could argue that both catches would have been pretty good, but not extraordinary. Anyway the grand slam was hit well and it was good fun seeing him lumber for the triple since he's such a fat ass. I actually had the chance to ask CJ Wilson after the game whether Bengie's brother was slower and he said that they were pretty sure that the Texas "Flying Molina" is actually the slowest. He said their discussions with his teammates on what it would take for him to get the triple bordered on the absurd. As a Sox fan it was a tough loss, but at least it was sort of historic, which kind of made up for the final score and the rain delay. Plus, hey, it was the 599th consecutive sellout!

Remember the good old days of being able to just walk up and buy a ticket an hour before a game for next to nothing? |

It wasn't always that way ICER. The Red Sox recent popularity has a LOT to do with how good they've been over last decade, I remember the days of empty seats quite well...back when you didn't want to admit you were a Sox fan and everyone thought Fenway Park was an eyesore. I'm sure if they don't reel in another World Series title in the next couple of seasons the bandwagoners will start drifting away.
So how do you feel about the Rangers chances this year? Think a World Series might be in the cards? I admittedly don't follow the AL West all that closely but it seems like there isn't too much standing in the way of at least a post season trip. The Angles aren't doing THAT great and Seattle(especially) and Oakland both seem to be having underwhelming seasons. I've always liked the Rangers, I've been to see them a few times when I was in the area and always had a blast, great ballpark. |
