How to Not Smuggle Drugs by Damon Stoudamire
Blazer arrested while trying to board plane
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press PHOENIX -- Damon Stoudamire was arrested again on marijuana charges, after allegedly trying to pass through an airport metal detector with almost 1½ ounces of the drug wrapped in aluminum foil, police said Monday. The Portland Trail Blazers guard was stopped at the Tucson airport Thursday as he prepared to board a flight to New Orleans. Stoudamire has been arrested twice before on drug charges. If convicted of the latest charges, Stoudamire would face a mandatory sentence of one day in jail. Andrew Toynbee, chief criminal deputy with the Lewis County, Wash., district attorney's office, said prosecutors might seek a longer sentence. Stoudamire was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said he was carrying almost 40 grams of marijuana. After Stoudamire set off the metal detector, he placed the drug and rolling papers into a plastic security bin, police said. Security officials then summoned police. Stoudamire was released on his own recognizance and is to appear in court July 25. Calls to Stoudamire's attorney, Steve Houze, were not returned. Mike Hanson, Blazers spokesman, declined comment. In November, Stoudamire and teammate Rasheed Wallace were passengers in a vehicle that was stopped for speeding on a highway outside Chehalis, Wash., after a game with Seattle. A search of the vehicle turned up a small amount of marijuana, police said. Stoudamire agreed to attend drug and alcohol counseling and stay out of legal trouble for the next year to have misdemeanor charges against him dropped. Earlier in 2002, Stoudamire was charged with a felony after police found a large bag of marijuana in his home while responding to a burglar alarm. A judge declared the search illegal. Stoudamire was drafted from Arizona in 1995 by the Toronto Raptors, where he was Rookie of the Year in 1996. He was traded to the Trail Blazers in 1998. ____________________________________________________ O.K. You are an athlete. Whether we like it or not, you play by different rules then the rest of us. But three offenses? And you are still trying to sneak dope through metal detectors in ALUMINUM? That's just not even giving a shit about laws. I hope he is fined, suspended for alot of games, and then tossed in jail for a week. This kind of behavior is why people rush to judgement with things like Kobe. And after reading this, can you really blame them? |

One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

The Portland Trail Blunters have the right man playing the point. Why they don't pick up Lamar Odom--just for what he would bring to the parties--is beyond my comprehension.
Roy Tarpley has applied for reinstatement. Maybe they need a big man.

Portland Jail Blazers, I thought.
An example of many pro athletes who think the rules just don't apply to them. But also, it's an example of why the leagues (ALL of them) need to get tougher on anti-drug laws. Player's associations need to grow some nuts and start random testing (currently prohibited in pro sports, tests have to be announced in advance so the players have time to clean themselves out) and enforce penalties. Drugs don't have a place in pro sports, or anywhere else for that matter. It's unfortunate that there are people out there who think that means everyone but them. -Mikey |

First Kobe.
Then Darryl Armstrong slaps a female police officer on the hand and then admits he only smacks his kids. Now the Jail Blazers are trying to take pot with them on planes. Oh what a week David Stern is having. It's a shame too because this is a great time for free agency signings (ie. Gary Payton to Lakers.)

The first public comments by the illustrious Stoudamire as reported by SI:
"Are you asking me if I am an idiot? We can sit here and you all kinds of terminology for what everyone might think about me and that situation, but to be honest, maybe I was at a point where I wasn't thinking clearly. It was one of those situations... I know I'm not an idiot, I know I'm not dumb. I'd like to think of myself as a smart guy." Perhaps you were just TOO DAMN HIGH? Idiot. |
