Deep sea / saltwater fishing in general
This thread is dedicated to saltwater fishing. Discuss, post pics, brag, etc. I've actually never gone freshwater fishing. So salt is all I know. Being originally from Miami, weekends were often spent on boats or bridges with the family, catching several suppers. Snapper (my favorite,) grouper, yellow tail, etc. Some of the best memories ever.
Sadly, I haven't been out for maybe 3 years. But it was a great time. I'm a glutton for sunburn. I love it. But I was torn up by the time we got home. Anyways, we were in the Gulf. Didn't catch much food but of course, still had a blast. Caught a few puffers, which we let go. Fought with a bitch tarpon. And my bf att caught a baby shovelhead. Good times! K now you go. As a kid (I grew up and still live in a small harbour town - in fact my bedroom window now overlooks the harbour) everyone used to fish.
Generally it was off the end of the harbour arm. I've not gone for years, but used to love the timeless urgency of it.

Saltwater fishing is all I do. A few times a year I take the boat out. I live about an hour and a half from the spot, so it's not too far. Whenever the water warms up I'll do some surf fishing. I've caught stingrays, sharks, trout of all kinds, sheepshead, redfish, eel, ladyfish, flounder; if it swims inshore, I've caught it.

I've only been saltwater fishing a few times. Once off the coast of Palm Beach and loved it. Only caught baracuda, though. Then a few years later out of Cancun. That was a nightmare, though. A front had moved through (with a cold rain) the day before). Once we entered the Gulf there were massive swells. They exceeded the height of the boat. In the trough, all you could see was walls of water on either side. I had never expereience sea sickness before. But I did, then. For 3 hours solid. Lots of fish were caught by our group, but I just sat by the side and dry heaved overboard. Three weeks later I was diagnosed with vertigo, which I think I contributed to the seasickness. A few years later off of Boca Raton I was in a group and one person "caught" a pelican! The pelican dove down and took the bait. It was pretty bizarre.

awwww re: pelican!
Good God, I was sea sick once. It was without a doubt one of worst feelings EVER. I really feel bad for folks who get it regularly while out on the water. It'd completely ruin what could have been a load of fun. |

Shouldn't this be in sporting? There was a while back (must've been 16) I was busy getting my tube on when my broadcast was interrupted to bring me the good jolly hours of ESPN national fishing championships. It lasted 3 hours. Till today I still want to kill anyone that mentions fishing to me as a sport.

I didn't even realize we had a 'Sports' section. I pretty much hate sports so I never considered the fishing I've done a sport. Guess I like sports after all lol.
I don't really watch competitive fishing but I've been sucked in on occasion. It's just fun to be out in the sun, where it's not too terribly hot as there's a breeze on the water. Good times. I need to find pics of me and my 'massive catches.' Ugh, I miss Miami sometimes. |

I love salt water fishing, much more than fresh water. It's always a thrill to see what's going to come up on the end of the line. Obviously you can tell, I'm not a super serious fisher....uh...person. I just like being on the ocean.
I haven't been in a long while and miss it greatly. |
