Boycott The Rose Bowl

Texas, after barely beating Nebraska will play Alabama for the BCS title. In Pasadena. For those not following college football, this is troublesome because Texas Christian, Boise State, and Cincinnati are all undefeated. The chowder heads who construct the BCS also matched up TCU and Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl - so one of those teams will not be able to make a claim for the title.

So enjoy the parade, but don't watch the game. It's all rigged, I tell you.

CinnamonGirl 12-06-2009 05:46 PM

I'm still pissed about the Texas/Nebraska game, so I definitely won't be watching.

The Rose Bowl is Ohio State Vs. Oregon...

Ah. But they are playing at the Rose Bowl. Right? That's what it says on the AP wire. Could a mod change the thread title to "Boycott the BCS Championship"?

cj2112 12-06-2009 06:17 PM

Correct, The Rose Bowl is also the name of the stadium where the Rose Bowl is held. This year they are also holding the BCS in the stadium known as The Rose Bowl....confusing, huh?

Poppinjay 12-06-2009 06:18 PM

This is why I hate the BCS.

Leto 12-06-2009 06:19 PM

what does BCS mean?

btw, I saw the Texas / Nebraska game. amazing finish.

Wes Mantooth 12-06-2009 06:29 PM

It means Bowl Championship Series if I'm not mistaken, Leto

Poppinjay 12-06-2009 06:30 PM

Bowl Championship Series. It essentially created another division in what was D1 football. There used to be D-1A, and D-1AA. Now there's FBS (All D-1A teams), BCS conferences (SEC, ACC, Big 12, 10, Big East, and the PAC 10), non-annointed conferences, and the FCS (formerly D-1AA).

C'mon.. why are Buckeye fans always so bitter?? They made it to the Rose Bowl..Texas had nothing to do with OS losing to Vandy.

No matter what side you're on, the correct call was made in the Texas game.

As far as the BCS goes, I don't really know how anyone can complain about Texas and Alabama. Alabama goes undefeated in the SEC, and Texas goes undefeated in the Big 12. Why would Cincy or TCU have a better claim against Texas to play in the championship game?? Cincy had a fantastic come back win against Pitt to stay undefeated but they were ranked 5th. TCU was ranked 4th. So... Texas was ranked 3rd and and Alabama 2nd until the conference championship games.. and TCU and Cincy should jump ahead of them... why???

I'm an FSU fan.. so I get to watch a lame ass bowl game.. but I don't see how in the world anyone can say that TCU or Cincy should have a real stake in the championship game. They were consistently ranked lower than the teams that will be playing for it.

As much as I hate the SEC, I can't see Bama losing to Texas.

Okay, thanks! My first exposure to the bowl games was the 1982 (Jan 1/ 82) Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Our University marching band was invited to play in the Cotton Bowl Parade, and were given complimentary tickets to the game (right down at the field). We also got a complimentary tour of Southfork Ranch (remember Dallas??).

As I recall, the teams that played were Texas & Alabama - everybody cheering "when I say Ala, you say Bama!" or "When I say Bear, you say Bryant".

I think Texas won that game. But it sure showed me how big football was/is in the States relative to here in Canada. Even the stadiums are bigger than our pro-football stadiums. Must be a lot of alumni money in them.

Ugh. Nebraska totally won. :p

Glory's Sun 12-07-2009 12:07 PM

How did Nebraska win??

They had fewer points...

the officials checked the clock and the time being put back on was correct ..

PonyPotato 12-07-2009 12:16 PM

For the record, Gucci, I'm not pissed about the Texas/Nebraska game because I'm an OSU fan, I'm pissed about it because I'm also a UC fan this year. :)

I'll be watching at least two bowl games this year. Probably more, since I've been watching a TON of football with my boyfriend this fall.

Wetzel's playoff plan: Money talks - College Football - Rivals.com

he sums it up pretty well

Poppinjay 12-10-2009 12:19 PM

I like seeing ECU matched up with Texas. It could happen.

As far as TCU and Cincy being ranked lower all year, in olden times, rankings were done by measuring the success of your opponents that you beat. TCU is #1 in beating opponents with winning records.

Glory's Sun 12-10-2009 12:26 PM

They're also in a weaker conference..

if anything.. we should boycott the selection committee for putting TCU and Boise St. in the same bowl as well as allowing FSU to play WV in the Gator Bowl.

Texas would dismantle ECU.

Poppinjay 12-12-2009 04:59 AM

They would not, and might I add, you bastard! Take a look sometime at the BCS teams that ECU has beaten. Miami. When they were good. V Tech. WVU, We regularly beat ACC teams. Plus if you look at the closing play, like they do with basketball teams, we'd be tightly competitive with Texas. This has always been the case with ECU. Half the players get injured the first few games, and come back in the last few. I would honestly wager that ECU would play Texas tight. Especially if it were in the southeast, like the weird ass bowl in Charlotte.

TCU, like ECU, plays up out of conference instead of Ipswich State like USC and those other big name schools.

I will now stick my fingers in my ears. Lalalalala.

Oh, thank God I'm not the only truly sane person who believes that every conference champion should be involved in a playoff system

G_Whiz 12-12-2009 01:39 PM

I just wanted to add a clarification about the Rose Bowl. Besides screwing up the National Championship, they are confusing everyone.

The Rose Bowl game will be played on January 1, 2010 after the parade.

The BCS Championship Game will be played a week later at the Rose Bowl stadium.

Rekna 12-12-2009 03:39 PM

The BCS system sucks. Teams that should get a shot at the title do not get shots at the title. Lately less popular conferences have been screwed with this. Look at Utah last year, they went undefeated and didn't get a shot at the title. Instead they got paired with Alabama and everyone said that Alabama was going to decimate the Utes. However, the Utes handily beat Alabama and never got a shot at the title game.

This years Boise State vs TCU game is lame. In the past few years there have been BCS busting teams every year and almost every time the team from the weak conference has won it's bowl game. This year they avoided that problem by putting the two "weaker" conference teams in the same bowl game.

Here is the game from '82:

Looks Like Alabama won the BCS last night.

Pearl Trade 01-08-2010 03:06 PM

Congrats to Bama for winning. Would have been a hell of a game if McCoy didn't get hurt though. All well, we'll get them next year.

A plus is Gilbert gaining some very valuable experience. He played alright when he came in, didn't absolutely shit his pants or anything. Just kinda turtled and touched cloth.

Lindy 01-08-2010 06:40 PM

Saw this thread too late for the boycott. Texas just was lucky enough to dodge the bullet in the Nebraska game. But if Colt McCoy hadn't gotten tossed around so much by Ndamukong Suh (and others) in the Nebraska game he might not have gotten injured against Alabama. Texas squeaky luck just ran out. They were just a little to much of a one man show.

if you want a good reason why I'd boycott the Rose Bowl... get this. I was in the Rose Bowl Administrative offices days prior to the Rose Bowl Game and overheard a chubby Latina coming out of her office to tell the field crew they could have only 2 pieces of chicken for lunch!!! I later find out she's suppose to be on the management staff at the Rose Bowl and it's typical feeding line... the workers are fed like 3rd grade children. Volunteers are not fed at all. Management staff eats 'off menu'

What's more appalling is the ROSE BOWL made their own conterfeit passes for the U2 Concert for hourly workers that LiveNation refused to honor at the gates on October 25th concert date. Official credentials went out to Rose Bowl staff and their families... along with shirts, and other paraphernalia. shame shame shame. And we thought the Rose Bowl was above it all
