Rugby
Any ruggers out there or rugger huggers?
I play prop and lock and due to my Amazon shape, I think I would be an awesome outside center. If only I could get fast! |
touch rugby here mainly these days, but im known to play tackle every once in a while. ill probably give up the 7's tournament this year to run a marathon though.
i used to play breakaway in my younger days, but am known to cover the left wing at times...if only i can put on some beef |
Wait... zombie squirrel?!
Oh, man... this is gonna be good. |
ZS, please be on guard with Crompsin around. He's a zombie hunter.
Also, I'm from the US, so I'm totally ignorant about rugby. But, I watched part of a game when I was eating lunch in a sports bar, and it looked pretty good. It was a great exercise in "figure out what the rules are with no sound available". |

Also, in my experience the 'rules' of rugby are more like guidelines and don't always apply. Sadly, my rugger days are behind me, if all goes well though come this fall I'll be one of those no good, rotten, blind refs. |

I've never played anything more than the occasional touch game, but I love the sport. I'm a big fan of all the technical rules - I still don't know all of them. And it helps living in a country with the best rugby team in the world. :D Go Bokke! |
I've never played rugby, but I absolutely love to watch it. My TV stays on the Setanta sports channel most of the time. There was an intramural team starting up my last year in college, but I didn't understand what rugby was then. I had a friend that invited me to come out. I regret that I didn't now.

sooooo.....the only person in this thread who used to play rugby and still plays rugby and knows all the rules is an aussie??? you can barge all you want zombie, but you still need us to score for you. you cant win a game without getting points on the board. never seen a forward play wing or kick a ball..unless your jonah lomu... |

Crouching Tiger, Hidden BOKKE! What a nailing it was, despite the penalties awarded to Aus for infringements I still don't understand. I doubt we'll be as lucky for the second game, what with Barnes and co returning, and JP and FdP injured. But I reckon we'll get the bonus point we need to win the 3N. |
i dont recollect a thing about the game..i refused to read about it when i heard that we'd lost...hope it stays that way until the aussies learn how to play ball a little better

Catch for joggers...

I'm finding the endless kicking in international rugby quite boring to watch. Somewhere in the law tweaking field position rather than possession became more important. Finally, this weekend the Wallabies learnt about running again and actually scored some tries (and missed out on at least 2 more by a few centimetres).
I did play a little bit when I was younger - I'm tall, fast(ish) and weigh next to nothing - yes I was a winger. |
Yeah spindles. THe ELV's were the improvement we've been crying for for 20 years. I scheme refs think that if you punish an infringement with a penalty, you will remove that infringement from the game. Which is stupid, because half the time players dont even do it deliberately. Concerningly though, I've heard umpires say "you deliberately went off your feet" when I can clearly see player x lost his balance in the ruck and went off his feet. The refs need a reality check and pressure the lawmakers to bring back ELVs.
Penalties should only be awarded for serious infringements. The rest should get free kicks. Lineouts are the best and most attractive platform to attack from in rugby, and the rules should promote that. I mean its fantastic to see Francois Steyn's ability to kick 60 meter penalties, but is that really what we want the game to become? Kicking 30% of all points from your own half? |
