Everyday moments of personal sporting triumph
Well, you can tell us about yours here certainly, but Im going to talk about mine.
Now, I used to play a bit of squash a few years back, never great but could play to a level. The last few months have been trying to get back into it and have just been getting beat by all comers, 0-3, 1-3, 2-3, but always beat. Tonight I played a guy who has done me 0-3 three times in the last 6 months. I dont know what it was... maybe that Ive lost 10/15 lbs, maybe I was in the right mood, maybe somethings clicked - but even in the warm up I felt nice, moving into the ball. Two minutes into the game I just had the feeling "I'm going to play this man off the court"... was hitting past him, over him, through him. Seeing which way he was moving, pushing into the front of the court ahead of him all the time, making him play an extra shot every rally. I didnt bother trying to conserve energy, I just played as hard as I could right from the start. I ended up doing him over 9-2, 9-1, 11-9 By the third game I was struggling with fitness but I still felt I had enough. He was 8-6 up and serving for that game, but I ended up taking the third set and thats that! First win since Ive been playing again!

Congratulations, SF. Both on the win, and on the weight loss.

Thanks for the link mate
I was trying to start a different conversation though - one not about the pinnacle of lifetime achievement, but at the everyday small victories (or great defeats) we all have Now, On Thursday I played six a side soccer (as usual) and the team we were playing were shit... our boys were all over them, but couldnt score. Late in the second half we lost possession going for the winner and their striker was bearing down on me. The guy who lost the ball worked back hard to keep the pressure on the striker, but he pulled the trigger 10 yards out one on one... I had my angles just right and dived low to the left and blocked the shot, spun round and jumped up and the striker following up blazed over.... Saved a point.
