on the eve of war
I hope I might be forgiven for posting this...
if it makes no sense to most peope you might find some educational value, the below is the oldest recorded sports chant. KICK IT OFF THROW IT IN HAVE A LITTLE SCRIMMAGE KEEP IT LOW SPLENDID RUSH BRAVO, WIN OR DIE ON THE BALL CITY NEVER MIND THE DANGER STEADY ON... NOW'S YOUR CHANCE HURRAH WE'VE SCORED A GOAL! CITY! CITY! CITY! CITY! ___ Tomorrow the team I love faces almost certain relegation to the third tier of English football, three points behind Barnsley (with a better goal difference) with one game left. We MUST win and Barnsely must lose basically to survive. Whatever we do if Barnsley get a point its over. The defeats to Ipswich and Reading have put us almost down. Whatever happens I am City til I die. I'd follow my team to the Jewson's League if thats where they ended up... many relationships in life are fleeting and many come and go... women, children, parents, but you support one team from the moment you see them till the day they put you underground. I dont want to see players dying on the pitch and no sensible fan does,,, but I want to see them go out and fucking play like its going to fucking hurt them like its going to hurt me if they dont find a miracle way out of this. You cant blame Gunny, he wasnt the man for the job and he's done his best he is a great servant of this club... over the course of the season we havent done what we needed to do and thats why we're half dead at last chance saloon now... but just go out one more time and give it everything you have boys. ON THE BALL CITY

Yeah, but I havent spent 23 years of life supporting Newcastle.
There's a difference between being a fan of a team and supporting someone. I'm a fan of the Jets, the Redsox... I never cried or ripped down the curtians in every downstairs room in the house or broke a bone in my foot by kicking a parking bollard when either of those lost.

3-1 down at half time and Barnsley drawing... its bleak.
Newcastle have been down in the lower leagues certainly in my memory of watching football... I think all the "greatest fans in the world" stuff is a bit of a myth. They didnt used to film the stadium every week when they were in the second division. They should have had too much quality to go down but the managerial situation there has just been a joke this year. Could still see them getting out of it because Hull are really struggling and I cant see them picking up many more wins. EDIT Barnsley just went 2-1 up... Cunting hell Charlton 4-1 up... absolutely gutless. Its over and Im going to bed and I dont care thats its 2:30 PM ---------- Post added at 03:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:28 PM ---------- down

On a related Championship note, well done to PNE for getting into the playoffs. Getting that final spot ahead of Cardiff on goals scored (66 to 65), who PNE beat 6-0 a couple of weeks ago, was well deseved. Hope they can get up and add another northwest derby into the PL mixer.

Cardiff really bottled it in the run in - buts thats sport, for every winner there's a loser - for every celebration there's tears. Winning wouldnt mean anything if losing didnt hurt.
For City too, they lost against Ipswich, Reading, Charlton... they had a chance to get out of this and they didnt win the must win games - so you cant say its anything more than our just deserts unfortunately.
