Jarkko Ruutu Takes a Bite Out of Andrew Peters
Alright what the hell is hockey coming too when this asshole bites another players? I don't give a rats ass if Peters still had his glove on or not, Ruutu still bit him.
He runs around the ice and shoots his mouth off, but when it comes time to man up Ruutu doesn't have the sack, and he either runs away, or now apparently bites other players. He didn't even get a penalty for it, yet Peters got 2 for unsportsmanlike. Peters is a good old boy always up for a tussle, then you get this Finnish Sean Avery who acts tough, but well, everyone knows he isn't. I hope the NHL is going to look at this nonsense and comes down hard on Ruutu as this has no place in hockey, it may fly in Finland, but not here in Canada.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Peters deserved it, but, yeah, maybe he should have kept his glove out of his face.
Both of them come across as a couple of goons.

Quote:
Nobody deserves to be bit during a game of hockey, this is the same as kicking another player or spitting in another players face, it disrespects your opponent, and it disrespects the game. That's the problem with today's game, you have no respect amongst players, back in the day this would have been handled by dropping the mitts and having a discussion about things, but this 'new' NHL is just pathetic.

Biting is bad. Really bad. And it's too bad the officials missed it. But facewashing is also disrespectful to your opponent and also disrespects the game. That shit stinks.

True fachwashing does stink, I used to hate the facewash, some of those guys I played against had terrible smelling gloves.
But facewashing happens how many times a game? It's become part of the game (not that that's a good thing), like diving (I hate diving), or like the Senators choking in the playoffs. If one gets a slap on the wrist for biting, it may one day find a regular place in the game.

Lol. Well, my opinion still stands - if you are dumb enough to put your hand in someones mouth .. you have no reason to bitch if/when they bite. Don't be stupid.
Yeah, the facewash is pathetic and should (rightfully) be penalized. It has no place in hockey. Same w/ the Leafs and playoffs

They both are idiots. But the retaliation is an over-reaction. Wait, is this the Isreal / Gaza comment thread?
No? Well same comment applies.

I'm curious as to what James opinion would be if it wasn't the Senators 'pest' involved, say this had taken place last year with let's say Darcy Tucker, biting Brian McGrattan's hand, I reckon you'd be singing a different tune. It's the same with most hockey fans though, it's no big deal if it's your team...lol. I just hate how it makes the game look bad, Ruutu's a clown, I'm sure karma will catch up with him.
The personality of the player or them being idiots really doesn't matter, this could be Crosby biting Ovechkin for all I care, it's still wrong, no matter if your hand is in the guys face or not, biting is not the proper reaction, we tell our fuckin kids not to bite, yet this is no big deal, or is deserved by Peters. As Roenick said in his interview, "it's a chickenshit move".

The Oilers are my team - so I could care less really.
Yeah, personality -does- matter actually. In both cases, a more reputable player would have: a) not facewashed, thereby placing finger in mouth by accident b) not bitten a finger in mouth - punching the living shit out of the coward who is facewashing instead. They are both idiots. Enough said. Really.

That's the thing though, the one who bit the other player doesn't have the sack to drop his gloves and fight, he's Finnish for christ sakes, he won't fight, he'll drop the gloves and have a hug fest that's for sure though.
Please a more reputable player wouldn't have facewashed is a)bullshit, and b)bullshit. I've seen all the great players in my lifetime facewash, Mario, Gretzky, Yzerman, hell I've seen video of the greats from the past facewash other players, you know what I haven't seen though, any of those great players bite another player, that's what makes them great players, they don't do things like this to embarrass the game. Them both being idiots is beside the point, this is the same as kicking another player or spitting on another player, are we supposed to just say, oh well he deserved to be kicked he's an idiot anyways if it ever happens? It's embarassing for the sport, and it's embarrassing for the Senators as a team, Ruutu is enough of an embarrassment to himself so I could care less about him. Maybe it's the way I used to play the game when I played, I had a job to do and I did it well, I respected other players and if they wanted to drop the mitts for a discussion, I was more than willing, I've been facewashed more times than I can remember, and never had it occurred to me to bite the other player, that's just a cowardly thing to do. I've facewashed countless players over the years, thousands I bet, and you know what not a one ever bit me, why because hockey players, at least tough guys used to respect each other, but not with these little tough guy wannabe's like Ruttu, it's just cowardly and pathetic. Ah well, I guess we agree to disagree. How do the Sens fans treat and Oilers fan there anyways? I lived in Ottawa for 3 years and they were ruthless about the Leafs, until that is the usual time came and the Sens choke in the playoffs. I like the Oilers, Mctavish had a good quote about this incident, saidsomething along the lines of guys get hungry out there, then asked if it was in the third period, hilarious soundbite, got to love Mctavish.

I see your points, and frankly I mostly agree. I just think that some people do end up getting their due and these two guys have a lot coming their way - at some point.
When I tell people that I am an Oilers fan they look at me sideways. They figure that because I live in Ottawa I should by rights be a Sens fan. Ok, I see their logic but they don't realize that I grew up in Edmonton as a child - and it was during the true golden years of the Oilers. I look at the team now and feel kinda shitty from time to time - considering their predecessors. Some day (hopefully soon) they will front an excellent team again. Do I cheer for the Sens? Hell yes - they are my 2nd team sort of by default .. but when its Oilers vs. Sens that's a no brainer. Yeah, the Leafs rivalry is quite something in Ottawa and Toronto. I love jumping in on it - mostly Leafs hating simply due to the population disadvantage that the Sens have. That and the fact that half of people who live in Ottawa are Leafs fans for historical reasons.
