To me, I wouldnt put him in the top 10 middleweights of all time to be honest.

You cant say that someone who goes their whole career undefeated hasnt proven themselve, but for much of his career he held the most lightly regarded championship and didnt get or take the big fights.

Beating Bernard Hopkins is an achievment, even at the age he is now Hopkins is tough and dangerous - but Calzaghe was a natural light heavy beating a natural middleweigt. Roy Jones Jr is a legend, but passed his best. Robin Reid beat him (and was robbed of the decision), an ageing Chris Eubank was almost too good for him... and more than anything everytime Calzaghe didnt deliver a great performance he was so lacking in class and full of excuses about his supposedly damaged hand.

Beating Lacey and Kessler were good performances against decent fighters but not really the stuff of legend.

I guess I really dont like the guy, and I feel while you cant argue he has beaten the people put in front of him - he only really started looking for real fights late in his career - and his last two victories were against people probably past their best.

He isnt the best super middle of his generation (Jones Jr was better) and while he's had a great career, I wouldnt say he was a hall of famer. Too many fights against people who didnt really belong in a world championship bout (I remember him fighting David Starie - who's from my home town - and without being disrespectfully, was never anything more than a UK title level fighter)

I like Calzaghe a lot, I believe we spoke briefly about him in the MMA vs Boxing section.

You hit the nail right on the head with everything you said. I don't think he deserves to be on a top 10 p4p list at all.

Maybe top 10 MWs.
