College Football - 08/09

So, another glorious season of college football begins tonight. After last year's unprecedented number of upsets, it will be interesting to see if the traditional elite teams re-establish their dominance or if 2007 was the beginning of a shift in power among the top teams.

Personally, I'm hoping for the latter. Last season was great fun to watch, and the intensity was raised to a whole new level because the non-ranked teams really believed they could compete with the elite teams, and then they proved it on the field. The fans seemed to be cheering harder and louder than ever because every team had a legitimate chance of winning on any given day.

I don't think any of that would've happened if it weren't for the App St/Michigan upset on the first weekend of the season. This year, as always, nearly all of the ranked teams are playing cupcakes this weekend... but I'm sure they will all be prepared this time to avoid becoming the Michigan of 2008.

Should be a great season... Go Bucks!

I watched that App State game in North Carolina with my Michigan in-laws. Suffice to say, I wasn't popular that day.

I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that the system that produces a champion is screwed up, and the powerful commissioners will never let the upstarts in, unless they can produce signifigant TV money. By acting like this, they've created a sub-division of 1-A.

I'll attend the William and Mary games, because they're right here.

I'm going to root for East Carolina strong and hard, and for any Boise State types out there who can stick a finger in the eye of the bigs. even though we beat them in the Aloha Bowl.

The Michigan of '08 is.... Michigan! Bitch slapped by Utah.
Although UM is not the only one to lay an egg in week 1!

Virginia Tech didn't lay an egg so much as they were just totally outplayed by East Carolina. It was only ECU's penalty mistakes that kept it close.

Supposed mid major Bowling Green beats Pitt, a team supposedly on the rise. ECU beats 15th ranked V Tech. Delaware loses by a TD to perennial ACC power Maryland. Freaking McNeese State keeps it close with Carolina. McNeese State?

If anybody wants to march on the BCS powers that be, I'll bring the torches.

I wish I had seen that game. We're in week 2, and I've seen exactly 1 game. Stupid busy family schedule.....

I wish I had seen that game too! Thanks to Hanna, I sat in the car and could barely pull in the broadcast from the radio. Then I gave up for a while and had gametracker up in one window, and the cam shot of the ECU video scoreboard in the other.

Astonishing. I never really entertained the thought they would win. And now the coach's poll has them at #20. Bunch of bastards. Of course it helps the coach's to vote down ECU if they don't have to play them.

There was some serious violence after the game. The students rushed the field, and the police, after being told not to detain them, decided to make examples out of some. The local media was all over that yesterday, and it looks like some will not be working hte games again.

I was really pulling for South Carolina to beat Georgia today. What an awesome upset that would have been, and I was pulling for Steve Spurrier which has never happened.

I also watched the weirdest 3-2 victory ever. I'm not sure there has ever been a 3-2 victory before. AU over MSU. 3-2? What does that tell you? So much and so little.

War Eagle

Today has been fantastic, supplemented by Thursday evening. USC sets the ground by playing horrifically sloppy and coughing up a loss on Thursday. Arch nemesis #1 falls.

This morning, the tandem of Pryor and Wells have breathed some life back into the struggling Buckeyes who looked great offensively in both the pass and the run game. Then, Florida gets an extra point blocked and gets stuffed on a 4th and 1 to lose. Arch nemesis #2 falls.

Michigan and Wisconsin are currently playing the sloppiest game I have ever seen in my life. 5 turnovers and it's not even half way through the 2nd quarter. Fumbles on virtually every possession. Pop Warner games look like the Pro Bowl compared to this fiasco. Michigan is on pace to fall yet again, but the 4-0 Wisconsin will reflect on this game, take a look at the Ohio State game, and collectively shit their pants. Nemesis 3 and 4, two birds with one stone.

Should Georgia fall to Alabama later today, the BCS will already be in turmoil and we're barely 4 weeks in. 'Tis a great day in college football. And the Mets won too. I should have bought a lotto ticket.

Wow, are things are their ear AGAIN. Florida, Georgia and USC have all gone down this week. Northwestern is undefeated. Ohio State doesn't deserve to be ranked.

The former tier two programs have really risen up the last few years.

And the Vols suck gigantic donkey cocks. I'm sure that warrrrreagl is celebrating Fulmer's absolute mismanagement yesterday. And I'm also sure that he won't be using his wife's account again since he's very capable of posting under his own account. Hint, hint.

Sorry Jazz, it's just me - the wife. We did attend the game on Saturday, and I'm afraid that there was more grumbling from the fans about Auburn's lack of quarterback stability than celebration over the victory. Auburn is in transition and, unfortunately, far too many fans see that as coaching failure. For me, it's always a celebration to beat another SEC team. Our defense looks great, our offense looks shaky, and our starting QB lacks a little confidence. I'm hoping this will change by the time Georgia rolls into town..... I will convey your comments to Red.
