How goes the foray into football prognosticating, friends?

I keep losing about 4 - 5 games each week and can't catch up to the #1 spot.

I could send everyone my choices each week. Pick the opposite, you'll do very well.

I'm the guy who entered 6 weeks in: RickyWilliamsLawyer. I'm now in second to last. Didn't hurt that the person ahead of me dropped out weeks ago. I calculated that if I had bet on these games, legally, I would be eating Kraft Dinner for about 6 months.

I'm not even sure who picked my games this week; they make no sense at all.
I have only been moving up in the standings because others seem to be dropping off. I am instilling a new method to this madness of picking winners by utilizing a lucky coin. I can't fail.

I have a good week and then I'll have a bad week. Nobody is really running away with it, so there is a pretty big bunch that are in the hunt. I'll admit I don't do much research, but it's still fun.
Picking all favorites is not a bad strategy, but if you can nail the upsets, you're golden. Missing 4-5 a week is still pretty good. It's those ~.500 weeks that will drop you down.

This reminded me of Mastercard's Mr. Bill.
I only picked 6 winners this week.

I've got the Jets over the Pats tonight, so far, it looks good!

I half thought about changing my pick last night to the Jets but thought it was going to be so close it could go either way. Early in the game I regretted not changing.

It would seem that a "bad" week for you is my overall ceiling in any given week; I've only topped 8 points twice this season, and never have I topped 10 points.
I try to pick upsets as well, but those are just wishful thinking losses on my part, and for the betterment of my favorites most times. The problem is that upset picks should be wagered for more points, perhaps double if picked correctly, if a team is favored 70-80% or more than the opposition. That'd perhaps make a pick 'em league more competitive, but I don't know if any others have thought of this stipluation.

There is another style of pickems where you only actually pick 4 games for the week. From what a friend has told me about it, here's how it works (I think).
The games are your choice, and you wager points. The game you are most sure about, you wager 400, then 300, 200 & 100. If you win all 4, that's a perfect 1000 for the week, any that you miss, you lose 110% of the wager. So you could lose 440 if you miss your 400 game, and so on down the line. Not sure if Yahoo has that style, I haven't looked. Might be worth looking into for next season.

There is an option for confidence points on the Yahoo pick 'em. Maybe next year we can set up a few different leagues with different options. It would be interesting to see the effect of confidence points or the spread on the outcomes.

Shit! I missed making my picks this week. I logged on all of 2 minutes too late last night, and Yahoo doesn't allow me to pick the rest of the games after the Thursday night cutoff. I guess I'll have the goose-egg this week which will kill off ANY chance of winning for me. ***sigh***
If anyone knows how to pick after Thursday, I'm all ears.

The league owner can set the picks to be done up until 5 minutes before kickoff
That would allow you to pick the Sunday games if you miss Thursday still, not sure why it wasn't set up like this, I haven't missed any weeks thankfully.

Now, now Dad, let's not get carried away. I am still hanging in there. One more good week and I am going to catch you Montana.
I so wanted to pick MIN on Sunday but I didn't. I have my own rule that I never change my picks at the last minute. It always comes back to bite me. I am in another Pick'em pool that pays $60. for each weekly win. I lost this week on MNF total points. I am not going to tempt the pick'em gods by predicting anything except that I will finish the season. BB

No kidding, my 8 (possibly 9 tonight, coulda been 10 if I actually had remembered to pick the Thurs game) is pretty good. Looks like my chances of winning are just about over. Fun season, I'd like to try again with something different, maybe playing the point spread?

well, this last week should be interesting. Since I'm a bears fan, the options for them making the playoffs should provide me with a whole weekend of frustration and anxiety. Especially because it seems like the Bears are playing like they want to lose.

Next year we'll have to get everyone's input on all the options. I didn't realize that 5 minutes before each game option existed. I suspect that when some missed out when Thursday games started people started dropping out.
