Are the new F1 changes successful?
Do they make for a better, more competitive, interesting race?
I say they have made it more competitive, and I really like seeing that. Purists (and I often agree with them, just not on this one) say that the best car should always win, the best car should always qualify first, etc. They argue that F1 is about the worlds best design and best engine and best driver. I argue that computer technology has made it increasingly hard for the teams without big bucks to compete. And the new rules help close the gap. I really like the new rules that the lowest teams on the totem pole can get extra track time. I'm not sso sure about the new tire rules but I don't understand them fully either. Let me know what you all think! |

Personally I think the rule that you can only have two tyre types per track is silly and dangerous.
I do like the 1 lap qualifying and park ferme rules meaning a lot of the lower teams are actually qualifying higher in the grid based on strategy. Makes for a lot more passing and interesting tactics.

Hmmm interesting question. I suppose they are rewarding the ‘weaker’ teams by implementing these new rules. We had (Adelaide, Australia) the GP’s here for 10 years and I can distinctly remember qualifying starting and nothing happening for 55 minutes and then all of a sudden whamo! For 5 minutes (slightly exaggerated) and I suppose it doesn’t make good TV? And F1 is probably the most commercialised sport in the world. F1 is never gonna be door-to-door racing due the nature of the ‘delicate’ machines?
I suppose no matter the rule changing, the juggernauts such as Ferrari et cetera will always rise to the top with their resources and incredible management team, they will just out wit all the others, it might throw a few upsets on the grid but the status quo will remain. I just think they are getting the racing right these days. He has won now! |

I really like the new qualifying rules - once car at a time - one bullet in the gun and that's it. However I'm not to keen about placing the car in park ferme' following qualifications until the race. I think they should allow a change of rubber if weather conditions change, a full tank of gas and possibly suspension changes due to weather changes.
