Pick-Up Basketball
Hail Citizens!
Pick-up basketball is one of the finest sociological laboratories one could hope to experience. I used to play more ball but work and kids have taken over my priorities. I still get out occasionally and think of it all the time, hence, the origin of this thread. Every court has it's own rules. What score do you play to? For my court it's 11 win by 2 or straight to 15. How are teams determined? We usually just shoot for captains. How long has your core group existed. I've been playing at the same court since 1991. I hope to enjoy the game vicariously through your posts. -GH |

I play with friends in the neighborhood. I have a net out back and we usually play there.
Rules:
Basketball is pretty fun, and I think I am best at shooting, as I practice that the most. I am certainly more of an outside shooter than an inside player. It is a lot of fun, and a great sport to play. |

It's usually just my brother and my dad. I haven't really been able to get together with freinds much since I started workong second shift.
We usually play at my parents house. They have a nice court and thier apartment complex. Alot of times we just play HORSE, but sometimes we'll play One-on-one. ! point per basket, first to 10, win by 2. Winner stays on the court. Loser sits and the next person comes in. Sometimes we'll play all day on a Saturday. Pretty Competitive too. My dad's still pretty young since I was born when he was still in high school and he stays in pretty good shape. |

well basketball courts with good players are rare over here ... there's no suchs thing to just go to a court and play against some ... most of the time kids are playing.
but if we want to play a game, we call our buddy's (every1 has a mobile now days) and meet at the court. the rules are mostly the same, if it's 3on3 winners ball to 50 (2pt / score) and best of 3 5on5 is full court a bit like the regular rules I guess, but little fouls are not called ...

I'm playing tomorrow night.
Rulz: -Shoot for teams(freethrows), 1st 5 make a team -1st team shoots for ball(3-pointer) -Full court -Call your own fouls, unless you're really nice and call it for them. -Fouls and out of bounds are taken up top (taken out at half court) -must check ball in -1st to 21 wins, must win by 2 Any questions? Game on!

Down at the local community court, the game always seems to be 24 by 4, with teams up to 5 on 5. We shoot for captains usually, unless someone objects.
Fouls are usually self-imposed... some people are fair, others will knock you onto the pavement and not say a word. Oddly though, the big arguments are always over travels and whether a shot was really a 3. |

When I play it is normally:
-shoot for teams (free thow, top of the key, or 3-point.. depends on the day and mood of the people in the gym) -1st to 15 ( normal 2pts = 1, 3ptrs = 2) -winners stay losers go -call your own fouls -must check in ball after basket |
