BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik underwent surgery to close a deep gash on the right side of his neck and was in stable condition Sunday night after he was cut by a teammate's skate during a game.

i watched the game last night and i'll tell ya', having seen it happen before, it makes yer skin crawl...

Buffalo is no stranger to this if you recall the Malarchuk gusher in '89 against the Blues...

Zednik was even luckier than Malarchuk, because his Carotid artery was cut, not his jugular vein, as in Malarchuk's case. Also according to the doctor, it was not completely severed, which kept it from retracting and allowed for easier repair. Unbelievably scary no matter what though.

Be thankful you're not in South Florida. The local Fox affiliate plays that scene over and over and over ad nauseum.
