Fantasy Football Sleepers
 

hey y'all...

i'm drafting thursday. as has been discussed, i'm in a keeper league where we all get 3, and i've kept Jones-Drew, Reggie Bush, and Marvin Harrison.

that also means, however, i won't get a new pick till the 4th round and beyond. being that i'm an amateur at this and don't know the league super well, i wanted some advice on guys that would still be around in the middlin and later rounds that i should keep an eye out for and snag.

There is Marshawn Lynch. Rookie this year, but lots of potential. You can probably get him pretty late.

Also, I have a gut feeling about WAS this year. I think Jason Campbell will surprise some people, so during the last rounds, I would maybe look towards Ladell Betts, Chris Cooley, and if you need a backup QB, Campbell.

**Edit: Actually Betts is a great pick. I think this is his last year on his contract and he is definitely starter material if he wasn't behind Portis. In a keeper league this could be good.

I'm in a league that's only based on salary cap, so there's no draft and you can swap your picks weekly, but one player who I have that might make a great #3 wide receiver is Randy Moss. He'll likely fall to the area of the draft where average to slightly below average receivers can be found, and can probably be picked up cheap based on past numbers. He won't be a total fantasy stud since Brady tends to spread the ball around, but as a #3, he'll be cheap and put up decent numbers. His numbers have sucked since he went to the Raiders since he felt that they had no chance. Now he's with a contender and will be a lot happier there. Not a bad pickup if you have some expensive talent on your team and are trying to keep under the cap.

agree with moss. He's got the talent, remains to be seen if he remembers how to use it.

Brandon Jackson, RB from Green Bay. He has looked good in preseason, and he will most likely win the starting job. Jackson is a rookie, and they would like to establish him at the # 1 back. I think they will only split carries if Jackson proves ineffective.

Lamont Jordan, RB Oakland. Since Rhodes is suspended the first 4 games, Jordan will get #1 back carries for at least those first few games. After that, I still think he will get carries. In addition, he is a receiving threat out of the backfield. In his last full year (2005), he caught 70 passes. Plus, he is only 28 years old.

If you have a 10-12 person league, I wouldn't pick either guy in the first 4 rounds. I think the 5th-6th round for a potential sleeper is fair.

I've jumped on Patrick Crayton in every league as both Glenn and Owens have a tendency to get a little banged up in Dallas. Santonio Holmes is another guy I've focused on in my drafts that finished up last season strong, although that not as much under the radar it seems as he's actually gone earlier than I expected in 2 drafts I've had.

I had LaMont Jordan last year... he sat the bench the entire season. Every Oakland player last year was a complete bust. They were that terrible... and I haven't seen anything that makes me believe things will turn around this year, at least not enough to use anything higher than a 6th round pick.

Right. This thread is about fantasy football sleepers, which essentially means that their potential exceeds their expectations. Player's in the first few rounds are drafted on expectations, thus a sleeper typically doesn't go any higher than the 5th or 6th round (Jordan should go even later in my opinion).

Plus, Jordan only played 9 games last year due to injuries. Even if he was healthy, their offensive line sucked as did their quarterbacking. Both have improved slightly, but it's not like Jordan will be a top 5 running back this year. Thus a later round pick is not a big risk.

Good point... I guess I'm still bitter about last year b/c I picked him in the 2nd round. Brian Westbrook was my RB sleeper last year, which turned out awesome... he had some huge games.

He didn't do too badly today, by the way... 70 yards and a TD.

I managed to snag Jake Delhome as my backup QB in a very late round. I was shocked that QB''s were being so lowly drafted in the TFP league considering ANY completion is worth a point. Jake managed 40 points today, and I had him on the bench! I got Carson Palmer as my #2 overall pick, and B Westbrook as my #1, of course all the "studs" were gone by my turn in round 1 (#8 of 10).

I think ANY starting RB for a team that is not expected to do well qualifys as a sleeper. RB's are supposedly the backbone of any fantasy team, so having as many starters as possible is always good. Rookie WR's who are #3 in depth charts are good picks as well, at least mid-late season if injurys happen.

I was really hoping about this, so I had grabbed Jacobs....and now he is out for a few weeks.....man...

Well, you can't predict injuries, you can only hope that you don't end up with more than one key palyer is down at a time.
