Kevin Garnett to the Celtics
Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. I've never liked the Celtics, but if I'm going to live on the East Coast, I've found the team I'm going to watch. Don't worry, I'm still a die hard Lakers fan, but this whole ordeal over the last several years with our star players demanding trades and our ankles being sprained all year and our GM giving questionable contract extensions and NOT making many strategic trades, I can still look for entertainment in other places.
Yep.

I think it makes them a prohibitive favorite to make the NBA finals. I know all about chemistry and that stuff but they now have a "big three". The same formula that helped the Bulls, Lakers, and latter day Celtics become absolute dominant teams. They do have a smallish window with which to work as they aren't exactly diaper dandies. Let's wait and see huh?

I for one am very excited. All of us up here have been waiting to see what the fuck Ainge was doing, and for a while he seemed like he had no plan, but now we're just waiting to see this three headed monster on the hardwood. I am actually curious to see Rondo improve with three legit scoring threats to dish to. And "Big Baby" should be interesting (of course he may force Garnett to play center if he's on the floor with the other two.)
Oh and Halx, isn't being a Laker and Celtic fan kind of like crossing the streams. Won't something bad happen to the universe?

i dont really hate the celtics because that rivalry was dieing out just as i was becoming aware of basketball. The worst thing i can say is that they have been exceedingly boring for the last two decades and now they are really interesting. I just know that i hate new york teams.

Garnett with Lebron would have been a Hell of a team. Aw well.

Not much depth on the Celtics after the starters, but I guess the same could be said about the Jordan-era Chicago Bulls. It's all about chemistry and lack of injury now. Its a good start that Pierce, Garnett and Allen are all character guys and not Vince Carter/Ron Artest prima donnas. I was hoping to see Garnett in LA to help out poor Kobe Bryant aboard the USS Nightmare, but the Celtics should be fun to watch this year.

I'll go on record, right now, and say it will be a rematch of the 1976 NBA Finals with the Suns getting the better of the Celtics this time. However, I think the Celtics will get at least one title out of this trio; I'm just not sure it's next season.
The C's also brought in Eddie House today. There's also talk of Ryan Gomes signing with the Celtics after he's released by the Wolves and clear the 21 day window to sign with other teams. The Celtics will get a decent bench and dominate the East. They'll be in the 55 to 60 win arena. |

It was a good trade for both teams. We know what Garnett brings, but Jefferson's productivity and youth are not mentioned enough.
I like KG, I think he plays hard and plays well. However, has not been very successful in the playoffs. It took a career year out of Sam I Am and Troy Hudson (with Sprewell playing good defensive and filling it up too) just to get him out of the first round of the playoffs. Ray Allen's best shot at winning a title was in 2005 when AD was running an efficient point position and Fortson was playing enforcer. They pushed the Spurs to a tough 6 games series, and Allen led his team to one of their two victories without the newly maxed out Rashard Lewis. Pierce has competed in past playoffs, and had Antoine Walker playing his best ball at that time. Still, Walker shot a lousy percentage and coughed up the ball too much. The difference makers were Kenny Anderson, Rodney Rogers, and Eric Williams. What I have been getting at is, I think the Celtics lack the defensive minded and essential role players that would run through a brick wall to win a championship. Brevin Knight would have been a much better acquisition that Eddie House. He distributes the ball at a high clip and is a pesky defender. Instead, they have House. He is undersized, not a good distributor, and a below average defender. All he does is jack up shots, but they will have enough offense. That signing does not make a lot of sense to me. Rondo is long and can play defense, but still young. Allen is in that same mold, but he is coming off a major knee injury. If these young guys, along with Perkins, can develop the fundamentals needed to compliment Boston's super trio, then they have a shot at the NBA Finals. Time will tell. |

i like this idea a lot. imho, the cavs are one true point guard and a kevin garnett away from seriously contending for the nba title. the cavs should have gone after him....hard. ![]()

They do need a bit more depth, I'll agree with that. The big three should help though. I would pick up two or three mid-level players on first chance someone like a Tyson Chandler like or a Jason Williams (I'm aware neither player is available, I'm merely giving examples of what they should look for).

Scott Pollard's redemption: I don't know if any of you remember last year when Pollard got caught saying, "Hey kids! Do drugs!" on national TV, but he was totally shelled for it. His recent press conference on signing with the Celtics is what I would call comedy gold. Not all jokes are funny, but it helps if half of the ones you tell are.

can anyone see the alley-oop that kevin mchale, former Celtic and current gm of the wolves threw danny ainge for garnett?
even ainge can dunk this one!!! the only way the garbage ainge gave up for garnett was better than odom and bynum and draft picks that the lakers would've given up is if you're a laker hater or celtic. i call nepotism, however i can't help but respect the celtics now even if i can't be a fan. all 3 of their games perfectly mesh. pierce's slashing, ray's spot-ups, and garnett's ofensive rebounding. yikes.
