Sadly, I hate to see that one of baseball's greatest historical teams is now defining the game by the size of their payroll.
I used to be such a fan of the game. I never liked the Yankees. I was an A's fan growing up, back when Billy Martin managed them. I always thought I'd be a lifelong loyal baseball fan, but free-agency and astronomical contracts for mediocre players ruined it for me. In my heart, Roger Maris still holds the season record and Hank Aaron holds the lifetime record.

Well now the dreaded skankees are 2 ahead in the AL wildcard and 5 from the AL leading Sox. They will make it to the playoffs via the wildcard but will be beat the first round. They can hit like no ones business but throw in the fact that they will have to get solid pitching (as all teams need in the playoffs), they will fall short. It is so nice to see arguably the most solid hitting lineup in baseball history pile on 6 runs a game and still end up losing becasue their pitching isn't even average.... it's below average. I just hope they keep spending as they do, paying the luxury taxes, and buying washed up big name pitchers who wouldn't have winning records in triple A. I LOVE IT!!!!!
