what's the point of a contract???
earlier in the year, dennis erickson left idaho for arizona state after just one year.
then, saban had a contract with miami, but said "kiss my ass...i suck at coaching in the nfl...and alabama is giving me a ton of money...bye" now, petrino from louisville is heading to the falcons. he had signed a new 10 year deal last year and said he was at louisville for the long haul....or at least until the falcons came running! so what's the point of contracts? nobody honors them, it's just a false sense of stability. also, what about those kids that go to certain schools because of the coach and then the coach bolts for greener pastures. wouldn't it be nice if the ncaa let the kids transfer without sitting out a year when the coach leaves? i think they need to look into that. coaches are supposed to teach our athletes about commitment and finishing what you started, yet they are the first ones to leave |

There are lots of legal reasons to have a contract, mainly so that you can get rid of a guy when you want to. Your Saban example is classic, only earlier in the process. The morons at Bama decided to give Shula the hook after only 3 years and 3 bowl games. The school gave him an extension to 2010 last year, and they didn't exactly honor that.
The street runs both ways.
