Need help choosing my hockey picks

I'm joining the hockey pool at work (trying to do as much as I can to make new friends :D) and frankly I really know nothing about hockey (well very little....). There's only two chicks joining and I'm one of them and we really want to win this thing if even for bragging rights! So I was wondering if all you hockey fans/experts out there could help me choose my team (10 players, and some backups for if I don't get my top picks). Apparantly they'll be posting a roster with stats etc (?). We're going to do the draft on October 5th so any help before then would be HUGELY appreciated! :icare: Help me win these bragging rights :D :D

What are the stats required goals, assists, wins, etc. what are the rules?

randygurl 09-26-2006 04:28 PM

I'm not sure about stats required but the rules are as follows:

Choose 15 players total
Can be any position - (can do all goalies if the desire strikes)
And we're choosing them in a snake fashion (1st to last - last to 1st - repeat)

Basically I'm just looking for a list of the top overall players. I've done my research and have an updated list of all the injuries for every team (current as of yesterday) and so am avoiding those players. And I've got a list of how well each player did last year, but ya, I just need some overall top picks :)

Am I making sense? lol

the sad thing is that the girls that usually do that... usually beat the crap out of whomevers in the pool

Tempboy 10-01-2006 02:39 PM

I guess Mike Ricci and Brent Sopel won't be picks anytime soon then...

Temporary_User 10-01-2006 02:51 PM

 Ok, I freaked out here!
@ first I was going to point out that me and Tempboy have similar names...
then I looked @ his location and he lives on the exact same street as me!

I do agree with the list you put up for the most part. but how is this league ran, does ice time matter? +/-? Penalties?

What position are you to pick?
this can give us some ideas on how should be your first pick. (who will actually be left)

randygurl 10-02-2006 10:08 AM

I don't know what position I'll be picking - we'll just draw numbers when it starts. And I don't think ice time matters, and we're doing it fairly simply - one point for a goal, one for an assist. I don't think penalties will come into play at all....

Temporary_User 10-02-2006 10:19 AM

doesnt sound too complicated. Do you even need a goalie?
If it is simply points, you would want to pick all forwards....
I dunno, is there anywhere that you can send us that shows us the rules for this.

randygurl 10-03-2006 02:23 PM

I think the guy is making up the rules himself - there's not really anything set in stone - and ya, I'm aiming to pick all forwards, but we'll see how it plays out. The draft is tonight, so wish me luck!

Temporary_User 10-06-2006 02:03 PM

So, who all did you end up with?

Tempboy 10-13-2006 11:40 PM

Really? Another Calgary kid? :o

randygurl 10-14-2006 09:34 AM

meh- it didn't go as well as I'd hoped! It went super fast though, wow! We had 17 people and it was done in less than an hour (with ten picks each). My picks are as follows:

1.Ilya Kovalchuk
2.Mats Sundin
3.Brad Boyes
4.Mark Bell
5.Keith Tkachuk
6.Wade Redden
7.Ryan Malone
8.Trent Hunter
9.Matt Cullen
10.Mark Parrish
