I cannot presume nor will I in which choice HE would have made. I gave you a good line of reasoning, it wasn't fear it was he was damned either way. And why should he name #2, who cares? I wouldn't have voted either. All my vote would do is give the other coach bulletin board material. I just don't see the necessity. No matter how he voted, the other coach would have used it to psyche his players up. This way, the other coach can't use anything Tressel says, other than "We're #1, #2 has to beat us." As Tressel says, "Don't ask me to vote anymore and we won't have this issue." I mean he could have voted for Rutgers.... he could have voted for anyone other than Michigan or Fla..... and it wouldn't have mattered. What Tressel did was acknowledge 2 other programs as having the talent to be #2 and that he doesn't care who comes and gets beaten by us.

I understand and applaud your defense of the coach. I can see where you are coming from Pan and understand what you mean 100%. However, I still think he should have voted. He voted the rest of the year except for the one time it would be public. That just reeks of insecurity in my eyes. I know it won't in yours but if he's so confident in his team he wouldn't care what the other coach used to psyche his players up. Hell, I'm betting that crybaby Meyer is telling his players that OSU thinks they're too good to vote; that the other teams aren't worth it. A coach is going to use it anyway. So why not just vote for someone and be done with it?

I was very happy to see that McFadden got second over a much overrated Brady Quinn. McFadden was a beast this year and propelled Arkansas to a level that few thought possible. Don't get me wrong on Quinn, I think he is a very good quarterback, but he's definitely not as good as most ND fans would like to think he is.

Michigan looked like crap yesterday. I still think they deserved a shot at the title however. I wonder if the long layoff hurt Michigan or if Pete Carroll is just that good of a coach. It's hard to say but either way Michigan played poorly. It really doesn't matter at this point. The BCS is crap and always will be.

It just didn't seem like New Year's Day. I remember when it was the Cotton, Rose, Sugar and Orange. All on the 1st, all big and all truly meant something. Yes, the championship meant something but, the rivalries were everything. Michigan-ND, UCLA-USC, Bama-Georgia, Texas-Oklahoma and of course OSU and Michigan. It's all about money now........how sad. But here's a question I love to ask...... OSU makes millions upon millions from the football team, why do they have to raise tuition every year?

pan, the football program, in fact, the entire athletic department at OSU is self supporting. In fact, they give money to the University. The football program pretty much supports the largest athletic department in the country with 275 endowed scholarships, 900 scholarship athletes, and 300 full time and 1600 part time employees.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Buckeyes and OSU and all, but I really think not just OSU but ALL major colleges that make big money need to show exactly where that money goes. After all, IT is still college, not the pros and education IS supposed to be the most important reason for these programs.

OK Pan, time for the rooting to begin.
The GATORS will win this game. OSU is overconfident and feels like they can just show up. I know, I know the Walnuts say 'We respect them, they are a good team' but they believe they are the chosen ones. The reason you are currently ranked #1 is because you started the season #1 and didn't lose. You played one of the weaker schedules of all the major schools. The GATORS played THE hardest schedule in all of D-1. They lost to the then third ranked team in the country, on the road, at night, by self-imploding(the punter dropped a snap), and a questionable fumble call. OSU played not just weak teams, but BAD teams. Teams with either no offense, no defense, or both. They only good team they beat they gave up 39 points to and almost lost. And hey, Meeeechigan didn't look so hot a week or so ago. Don't even say Texas, they were not that good and they were starting a freshman QB playing his 2nd game. I think on paper, the teams are even. Both have great senior athletes. Both with senior QB's(always a big factor in college football). Chris Leak did start for four years and Smith for 2 years but whose counting. Both teams have good offenses, defenses, and special teams. There will be mistakes and bonehead plays by both teams (always happens, they are 18-20 year old kids). The difference will be who can overcome their mistakes to persevere. I think this is where the GATORS will overcome. They are battle tested. They will not panic. Meyer will not let them. I know it sounds corny, but the team that plays the best and keeps their poise will win this game and that will be the GATORS. Gooooooo GATORS

I for one Buckeye fan here in the heart of Gatorland express my sincere appreciation to the Florida Gators and to the SEC for being a superior team and a superior conference that was generally dissed by the BCS fiasco....
Congratulations to the Florida "National Champion" Gators...

Being the conspiracist and ex-gambler I am..... Let's look at the game...
1) Tressel gets to throw out his contract if OSU wins the National Championship..... that would make his salary skyrocket OR worse yet, he'd go to the pros or another college.... He would be able to name his price.... 2) Ginn goes down with an ankle injury? 3) Troy Smith plays like a high schooler, he shows none of the skills that won him the Heisman. 4) The O-Line basically just laid down. 5) The Defense played prevent till the score was out of range.... it was like "Ok, give them 5 yards a play, just don't let them get behind you." I thought Tressel was smarter than that. 6) Someone made HUGE ASS MONEY on this game..... throwing a few key players the millions they may miss because they get drafted lower (that would also be split with agents, taxed and so on) may not be as hard as you think. Take Troy Smith for instance..... he plays like shit, throws incompletes and just lays down (which is pretty much what he did)..... sure he gets drafted later and loses say $5-10 million, but his agent would have gotten a piece of that, state, local, and Fed would have gotten some.... so, you pay him $5Mil, tell him to take the dive. He gets tax free, agent free money and he goes pro plays like a superstar and makes up for the loss come contract time. (The O-Line, Defense, and so on.... works the same for each of them.) 7) Let's say I know I have the Buckeyes fixed.... I pay the right FLA people to let the Bucks get the ball first and run it back on the kickoff..... then I bet that..... I make even more big bucks. 8) Who's going to talk? Let's just say I sent a signal by knocking off a college kicker and an NFL player in the same week. The above I know couldn't possibly happen, but let me live in my conspiracy world.... I'd rather face that and look like a nut then admit OSU and the Big Ten truly suck big time. Plus, how do you prove me wrong?

I can't help but chuckle every time I see this headline on SI.com: Heavy underdog Florida annihilates Ohio State 41-14
There's just something funny about the word annihilates... I'm not a football coach, but OSU's defensive coordinator should be slapped over the head for his inability to recognize the fact that Florida was simply throwing underneath the zone coverage. Zone coverages usually leave gaping holes in the middle of field; Florida simply found those holes and exploited the hell out of them. What surprised me the most was that OSU didn't change to a 4-3 defense (They instead chose to continue to rush three or four linebackers and drop back into zone coverage) after falling behind 21-7.

Well, congrats to Florida - Urban Meyer is an excellent coach and the team did its job.
Amazing how many people supposedly supporting Florida never said a word - until today! I think that's called "bandwagon jumping".

I hate both schools equally so it was hard for me to even watch the game. I did however find myself wondering what all the OSU fans in this thread would be saying.
Pan.. are you serious?? Just give the credit where it's due. Smith is a heisman winner.. we all know how heisman winners turn out.. losers. While I'm sure there is plenty of money to be made in a game like this, I find it difficult to believe that you truly support a school that would engage in this or believe some conspiracy occured. When my team loses I just accept the loss and give the credit to the better team that day. It's not a difficult concept. The fact of this game is that OSU was flat and on their heels, had no defensive strategy, while the gators (god I hate them) put together a winning strategy that made OSU look like pop warner ballers. I think if there was a playoff system in place OSU wouldn't have even made it to the championship game to begin with, so if nothing else, at least be glad they had a shot at it. |

I hope that we can now all put aside our differences and realize that the Big 10 really shit the bed this year. And that we can now all acknowledge that the SEC really is the best conference in college football.

As an Ohio State fan, I must say that the Buckeyes were completely and thotoughly outclassed last night. I was worried about this game from the time it was announced, and I guess rightfully so. Congratulations to the Florida Gators.
OSU's defensive coordinator, Jim Heacock, coached like his brother from little Muskingum College last night: Overwhelmed, deer in the headlights fear, and without a clue.
