Who gets released first?

Charles Gipson, who was picked off to kill the Yankees rally in the 9th inning against the Cubs??

Juan Acevedo, who has been getting lit up like a neon sign at a roadside motel???

Juan Acevedo. He keeps screwing up and has been complaining about his spot in the bullpen. Gipson just made one mistake. Acevedo has made quite a few more. Although I don't see either one of them being released any time soon.

I don't even know who these guys are, but I'll go with neither. If it's baseball though, they won't get 'released' they'll get demoted down to a farm club.

Acevedo would be my guess. The Yanks are trying to get Urbina from the Rangers, and he may be part of that deal (he does not get paid much). Even if he is not, they would designate him.

Urbina is good. Why would the Rangers let him go? They need him. Didn't they just get him? Besides what about Rivera why do the Yanks need Urbina?

Acevedo =gone. Released today. Good riddance.

I'm surprised they couln't trade Acevedo. Yes, I realize he's given up a few big homers this year, but he's a decent pitcher out of the pen. Several teams could use bullpen help.

I think they need to dump Charles Gipson. He's a good player, but needs to play for a team that will give him an opportunity to play on a semi-regular basis. That isn;t goign to happen with the Yanks.

Gipson is an extremely versatile defensive replacement. He can play all positions well except 1B and C (.971 career FPCT), and has decent speed on the basepaths. He makes the Yankees' bench deeper, especially with interleague play and the necessity for pinch hitters, runners, and defensive replacements in the NL games.

He just can't hit for shit (.236 career BA) and therefore will NEVER be a regular for anyone, unless he suddenly finds an eye and a swing.

King Charles has never had an oppertunity to prove he can swing the bat. I don't care who you are, if you get 1 ab every 3 games, you're going to have a hard time finding a rythm. Gipson is a fast guy with a great glove and there are a lot of teams out there who could really use that.

Anyone think the rumors about acquiring Urbina from Texas are true? Apparently Texas wants NY to pick up Chan Ho Park's contract as well. They also want Nick Johnson in return.

I'd hate to lose Nick Johnson. On the other hand, our bullpen completely sucks. If Urbina (and one more quality short reliever) can turn it around for us, it might be worth it though.

All of that may be true--and I certainly respect your opinion--but the last 2 times I've seen him on base...he's been picked off.

If a lot of teams want him, please call the Yankees. They have a listed number, I'm sure.

Well, he DID draw the walk that forced in the eventual game winning run in that last Yankees-Mets game. And as it turned out, getting picked off didn't hurt the Yanks. I'm in favor of keeping him as a defensive replacement for late inning situations, unless someone juicy comes available after the All-Star break.

But he'll never be a starter. Not for the Yankees, not for any contender.

Acevedo isnt too bad, pitched a shutout inning last night, I bet he plays well for the Jays.

Notice 2 players pitched well for Detroit (yes I know its a pitchers park) Weaver and Acevedo, then they bombed when they went to NY. For example Acevedo has like an 11.00 ERA at home, and 3.00ish on the road (This is just off memory). Some people should be content being good players on shitty teams instead of bad players on good teams !

Acevedo didn't pitch well in Detroit, lot's of blown saves. That's why he's not here any more. Weaver pitched well here, but was a problem in the clubhouse. He had value and the Tiger's needed some fresh blood. We'd probably take him back with a pay cut.

Just to finish off both men, Charles Gipson was designated for assignment when the Yankees traded for Karim Garcia from Cleveland.

We'll see if he can succeed--and keep from getting picked off--in another location.
