Second best QB for Fantasy Football

Ok after Peyton Manning, who would you pick next as a QB for fantasy football?

Borla 07-24-2006 06:09 PM

Wow....good question.......I think Matt Hasselback would be a safe choice. He probably won't end up the second best, but he'll probably be consistent through most of the year.

Trent Green is a great one if he is healthy, just because of the KC offense.

Guys like Daunte, Drew Brees, even Eli Manning, have an upside that has the POTENTIAL to be huge, but I'd rather pick someone consistent at the QB position.

I would say Carson Palmer, but coming off of the injury worries me a bit. I'd go with Tom Brady. I know, doesn't seem like an ideal pick, but he was ranked third in touchdowns last season (behind Palmer and Manning), led the league in passing yards, in the top ten for passing attempts per game and top five for passing yards per game. Solid QB who will get you points and has a great healthy streak. Seems like a good #2 choice to me.

Keeper League - Carson Palmer
Redraft - Tom Brady

I usually wait to pick a QB and then pick up Bulger (injury prone, so make sure you get a capable backup too) or Green, unless the points are heavily weighted towards QBs. With your first two picks, I think you should pick 2 RB's or a RB and Steve Smith if he's available. In most leagues, the top 3 or so QB's will be gone at that point.

What about Donavan McNabb? I heard he's been working out like a fiend this off-season and maybe he's got a new glint in his eye.

Palmer coming off being hurt...McNabb no targets...Brady Maybe

I really don' t like Eli and I am in no way a Giants fan, but every year he gets getter and better. Can't just think of what they did last year. You gotta go with your gut on who is going to put up the numbers this year. Thats why I would go with Eli.

I think that is just a piece of glass that TO shmushed in there right before he left.

I have to go with the majority, Palmer if he heals ok.

But (and of course I am a homer) I think the HUGE surprise this year as far as QB goes is going to be Charlie Frye.

If his recievers stay healthy with Jurevicius, a healthy Braylon Edwards that lives up to potential and Kellen.... even Heiden and Northcutt aren't bad guys to have as targets, you have the makings for a star QB.....

A lot of "ifs" in there though.

MontanaXVI 07-27-2006 05:44 PM

the pure question asked above who is the 2nd best, I have to say Carson Palmer.

Taking into account injuries, talent around (or lack of) I would say Brady.

Cross-Over 07-29-2006 01:38 PM

I would go with Palmer, it is not like he relied on his mobility as much as other quarterbacks. Yeah it is a serious injury, but his rifle is still polished up.

I like Brady a lot as a fantasy QB. However, they no longer have Givens (who often would be his #1 target in games, and only caught about 20 less passes than Branch) and Branch is holding out. In addition, I don't expect Brady to lead the league in passing yards again. Dillon was hurt and ineffective (minus goal line situations) last year, Brady had to air it out every game.

king sleeper!!

The biggest sleeper this year is going to be .....(drum roll)

Drew Bledsoe.

Drew Bledsoe was top five in passing and top ten in touchdown last year with a running game averaging less that 4 yards per carry and getting sacked 49 times (second most in NFL). This year, he has T.O. automatically good for 10 more TDs than Keyshawn, plus adds another huge threat on the outside. With T.O. and Glenn (highest YPC at 18.3 ypg) on the outside, Teams will have to play cover two to keep up (two deep safety's over the top to help the corners). This will open up the running game (only 7 in the box) and open up Jason Witten, allowing Bledsoe to be sacked less, and have more time and throw fewer interceptions than he did last year. (17 second most in NFL )

The O-line improvement is iffy, but the increased threat will mean less blitzes, so, overall, I think Bledsoe is due for a monster year, and he has been very durable.

I would go with either Brady or Eli (yes, I said it).

shoegirl 08-14-2006 09:28 AM

if he's ready for the season and can stay healthy - definitely Carson Palmer. :)

thespian86 08-28-2006 06:23 PM

No Favre? Fuck, even I wouldn't pick him. I think it's safe to say that someone like a Carson Palmer would be the # 2 if not for the injury. Why not Big Ben? No one likes his numbers? I'm just saying his got an amazing recieving core being him.

Borla 08-28-2006 07:37 PM

Analyzing everything, at this point I'd go with Brady as the safe pick, Palmer as the "tad bit risky" pick. :D

pan6467 08-28-2006 09:02 PM

Well after tonight there is no doubt...... Carson Palmer be the man.

BadForm 08-29-2006 11:32 AM

Since Carson Palmer looks healthy, I would pick him (easy to down though and not a month ago). After Palmer, it would be Hasselback. Then anyone from Brees, Culpepper, Brady, Bulger, Vick, ... Some (Culpepper, Vick) are riskier than others (Brady), but have a higher upside to compensate for the risk.

Borla 08-30-2006 05:34 PM

After seeing his last performance, I'd erase the "tad bit risky" portion of my last post on Carson Palmer, and vault him into position slightly above Brady. :)

spooky1 09-04-2006 04:31 PM

Well I had my draft and I took Palmer (2nd QB drafted  ). Thanks for all the replies. Now lets hope his knee holds out. I did get Bulger as a backup, so long as he's healthy I have a decent fallback guy. Just to make the season interesting I also got T. Owens. Wow so much could got right or wrong for me this year. It will be an interesting season. Good luck to all you fantasy teams owners out there  .

toss-up between palmer, E. Manning, and McNabb

MiSo 09-12-2006 01:37 AM

i've relied on brady for the past 3 years. really solid player, stays healty and knows how to win. very consistent player. other qb's might outscore him but all around he's a safe pick.

hambone 09-12-2006 07:12 AM

I thought McNabb, and boy did he prove me right :)
