Pronger requests trade from Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers are in the midst of what could be a severe shakeup to their roster just days after their Game 7 Stanley Cup Final loss.
NHL sources indicate that Oilers' defenceman Chris Pronger has requested a trade from the club based on "personal, family considerations." "I think they're more rumblings than anything," Oilers GM Kevin Lowe responded Friday evening. "I'm pretty focused on the draft right now I don't want to get too much into player personnel stuff." When asked if Pronger had asked to be traded, Lowe responded: "He hasn't' asked me. I'll just leave it at that." Related Info "We just got over a seven-game series in the Stanley Cup finals and there seems to be a lot of discussion about this and I'm not sure where it's coming from," added Lowe. "Let's put it this way. Why would we want to trade Chris Pronger?" "One thing I've learned in my five or six years as a manager is that stuff tends to out of right field for whatever reasons. It can be agendas, hidden agendas, certain motivations, so nothing surprises me." However, agent Pat Morris told TSN a trade request has now been made on behalf of his client. In 80 games with the Oilers this season, Pronger scored 12 goals and 56 points and was a Conn Smythe Trophy candidate through Edmonton's postseason run. Pronger finished third in postseason scoring with five goals and 16 assists in 24 games. The St. Louis Blues traded Pronger to Edmonton last August for defencemen Eric Brewer, Doug Lynch and Jeff Woywitka. The veteran defenceman is entering the second year of a five-year contract worth $6.25 million US per year. Pronger, 31, has played in four NHL all-star games and is a three-time Olympian. The six-foot-six native of Dryden, Ont., has 456 points including 106 goals in 802 NHL games. He won the Hart and Norris trophies in 2000, and was the first player to do so since Bobby Orr in 1972. He was the No. 2 pick by Hartford in the 1993 NHL Draft and played two seasons with the Whalers before being dealt to the St. Louis Blues for forward Brendan Shanahan. Source Anyone know why he requested the trade? This must have come as a crushing blow to the team management after coming off a near win for the cup. They also have a bunch of unrestricted free agents to deal with - including Rollie.

Apparently his wife is unhappy living in Edmonton, and would like to return to living in the US. Management knew of the possibility of the request months ago, as Pronger had informed them at that time that his family wasn't adjustng well. So while they were still upset about Pronger's decision, it didn't come out of left field, like the media had originally portrayed it.
While I can't stand Pronger, and think he is highly overated, I really can't blame him for making the request. He personally would like to stay, and had every intention of doing so when he signed the long term deal, but you just can't go home every night to a miserable family and stay focused on the season at hand. His loyalties are where they should be, with his family. |

Sorta like the situation that is happening with McCabe right now in Toronto. The mysterious unsigned contract.

Every team would like Pronger, he's a real stud! The strong d-man that can play against the best and all around good offencive threat. It would take a load of prospects to land him, I sure would like to see him in an Indianhead!

We'd love to see him with a Lightning bolt on his chest. Wonder if the Oilers would take Martin St.Louis straight up ?
Hmmmm.....

He sure did. I'm happy about it. The Leafs weren't going to get him anyway.
He's too pricey and let's not forget those suspect wrists... I like McCabe and Kaberle.

As for Caber, I like him. Not sure why he gets a bum rap here in T.O.? His stats last year speak for themself. He is a stud back there, capable of logging 35-40 minutes a night. He and Kaberle have some chemistry, I'd hate to see that broken up. |

here is a statement from the reporter Pronger supposedly boned:
OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM CHRISTIE CHORLEY JUNE 29, 2006 ANY RUMORS AND/OR SPECULATION ABOUT MY INVOLVEMENT WITH THE CURRENT CHRIS PRONGER SITUATION IS COMPLETELY, ONE-HUNDRED PERCENT FALSE. I would appreciate your help in putting an end to my name being linked to this situation, as it is completely WITHOUT ANY MERIT OR FACTUAL BASIS. Any further slander or defamation can and will result in swift legal action. Thank you." Pronger is also going to hold a press conference on Tuesday to put these rumors to rest, according to his agent. |

Jesus christ, if you married a professional sports player, whether it'll be minor league or major league, you'd at least expect to move around alot.
Here's what Christie Chorley looks like: Wow, I'd slap shot it

And the winner is.....the Ducks
Remember, they're no longer the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, just the Anaheim Ducks and what a group of guys they'll have on the blue line led by Scott Niedermayer and now Pronger.
