TFP World Cup Meet-up
Well, I just got my World Cup ticket in the mail today, and it finally hit me... I'm going to the frikkin' World Cup! Holy crap! The biggest sporting event in the Universe (at least, as far as we know), and I'll be there!
Are any other TFPers going to the World Cup? I'm going alone, as my football-fan friends weren't fortunate enough to get tickets. It would be awesome to meet up with other TFPers and have friends to hang out with and drink and party and scream with at the World Cup. My tickets are for the Round of 16 in Dortmund on June 27th, which will hopefully be Brazil vs. US. It will definitely be Brazil, and whoever comes runner-up in the USA group... I'm betting on Italy to win the group, so I think I have good chances of seeing the US play Brazil, which should be an amazing game (even if the odds are stacked against us). Does anybody else have tickets to this match?

Yeah... I wish someone else was going too...
Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with some US supporters in a pub before the match and have some people to cheer with.

Strangely, I am actually starting to get more than a bit worried about the fact that it appears I will be heading to the World Cup without anyone to meet up with. With all the insanity that surrounds the World Cup, I am hoping that a guy on his own wont make a tempting target for hooligans and other sorts of undesirables.
Are you sure nobody here is going to the world cup? If not, any advice for going to the World Cup solo?

I don't think there is anything to worry about other than how much fun you're going to have. Hooliganism is way down, police presence is enormous, and 99% of people are just there to have a good time.

Having spent a week in the Netherlands during the Euro 2000 Cup I can tell you--you're going to have a blast. I didn't go to any matches but everyone was very into it and EVERYTHING was orange (Go Oranje!). I wouldn't worry too much about the hooligans--they keep security VERY tight.
