NCAA Tournament
I've set up a group over at Yahoo for us to enter our brackets and have a little TFP competition. No real prizes other than the respect of your TFP peers.
Here's the page you should go to: http://tournament.fantasysports.yaho...inprivategroup and here's the info you'll need to sign up: Group ID# 56756 Group Password tfp Good luck. I guess we can also use this thread to discuss the tournament in general. Who do you think got snubbed? I think Cincy should be there. Who shouldn't be there? Air Force. Who got a higher seed than they deserve? Tennessee. Last edited by maximusveritas; 03-18-2006 at 01:47 PM.. |

There are probably five teams that deserved a bid more then Air Force. Utah State as well.
Gonzaga managed to be both overrated AND underrated (they should have got that #2, so their upcoming loss could be even more "stunning")

I think there's only one thing to be discussed: Cal for the win! LOL
C-A-L-I-FOR-NIA! California! California Califooooorrnia! I'll definitely try to get to one of the Oakland games now that they're actually playing some near where I live. I'm hoping it will be one of those situations where the scalpers end up with a bunch of tickets when the game starts, then they get desperate and sell cheap, but I wouldn't know.

Air Force definately shouldn't be in there. Who did they play? NOBODY. Cincy should have been in the mix somwhere and that other team from the Mid Valley (sorry it's early I can't think)
I'm a Duke fan and I think they'll make the Final Four, but they sure didn't give them that easy of a bracket. I think UConn has the easiest bracket out of all the 1's. |

I think I'm the only one in the nation picking Duke over UConn in the final. Duke has that close game experience that will help in the tourney. I just hope Dockery and Nelson step up a bit more.
I didn't really put any surprise picks in mine. I just don't really see any big time upsets happening this year. |

I picked UConn over UCLA, and I predicted a final four finish for Boston College. They are the real deal. I'm amazed at how well they've fit in the ACC.
George Washington and George Mason are both over-rated schools with soft schedules.

Yeah I kinda laughed when I saw that too. Those two teams are good.. but the Zag's haven't played anyone since the preseason NIT. They will fall short of the elite eight I think. Nova is damn good.. and damn fast. I just don't think Ray will be much of a factor since his eye was almost torn out. Sure he will play but I don't think he be as willing to go into the lane. |

I guess I was wrong about upsets. My brackets aren't destroyed yet but they took some damage. The Wis. Milwaukee and Wichita St wins set me back a bit. I don't know why I went against Wichita St. They were pretty decent.
The teams that are gonna make me or break me are: Tennessee, Kansas and California. |

I'm pretty sure my pick of Arkansas making it to the Final Four is gonna break me, but I had to do it. Not really any huge upsets so far, but plenty of scares. We'll see how those teams respond. Also, I didn't think the whole 12 seeds beating 5 seeds thing would hold up this year, but it did yet again.

I was hoping OVER-RATED Gonzaga would lose. Duke scared the fuck out of me and so did Tennessee. Illinois looks a bit shaky but I have a feeling they will respond. That GW UNC WIl. game was great!! I'm a bit worried about the GW vs Duke matchup because GW is very very fast and Duke's freshmen better step it up or Duke will miss the sweet 16 for the first time since '97

My brackets took a little hit, UNC-Wilmington gave away an 18 point lead.
Wichita State is very good this year. They used to have such promise with decent talent and Randy Smithson as the coach, but Smithson turned out to be too much of a Bob Knight type without the results. They have the balance right with Mark Turgeon. I have a favor to ask. Poppinjay was taken as a yahoo ID, so I out a variation on my username, but have forgotten it. Can somebody tell me what I'm listed as? It starts out poppinjay.

As a one time Wichitan, I'm right there with you. Bucknell? What the hell? Cinderella is ugly this year. But I am fully pulling for the shocks.
As a once and again Tarheel, thanks for the coach.

I was hoping Carolina would lose. Of coure I had them losing to Michigan State later on.. can you say 'destroyed bracket'?? My bracket is fully destroyed now that Michigan State and California lost. Ok it's not fully destroyed but I took huge hits last night.
I really wasn't surprised that Kansas lost. They just didn't have the feel or talent that they've had in past years. The only reason I was pulling against Carolina is .. well.. because I hate them so very much. I never should have opened my big mouth and said there wouldn't be many upsets this year... |

Even though I didn't pick them to beat Tenn, I rooted strong and hard for Wichita State.
Now they will (likely) play Carolina here in DC. I hope I can get tickets. I'll have to wear my Shocker hat and find a Tarheel t-shirt.

I'm so happy Carolina lost. I fucking hate the Tarheels.
Ok .. I have almost no bracket left. Memphis sure is looking good and I think Duke may be in their groove. UConn looks a bit weak but the close games may help them later in the tourney.. Gotta give props to Bradley though. They played some smart tough ball. Big Props to GM. |

/revisionist Dickie Vitale Now it will be almost certain i won't be able to get tickets to see the Shocks in DC. And if I did, I'd be killed for rooting for them.

As predicted, tickets for the Geo Mason-Shocks game are being scalped for about $1k.
GMU and WSU played earlier in the year, GMU won. No doubt they'll have a home crowd tonight. At this point, my Atlanta bracket is completely broken. I'll be rooting for the Shockers. This is the battle of the two oddest mascots of the tourney, WSU's angry bundle of wheat versus GMU's green elmo looking creature. My beloved Duke is out, thank God I didn't pick them to win it all.

I cannot explain the disdain I have for Duke at this moment. I am so pissed off with them as a whole. I don't care what anyone says, it was NOT LSU's defense that caused Duke to play that badly. They did contain Reddick, I'll give them that; but the other players (besides Williams) needed to do something. I'm pissed at Coach K for not developing his talent better. He has 2 other freshmen on the bench who can play with anyone yet they just sit there. Duke could have used them last night to provide a spark. *sigh* it's like 2000 all over again.
At this point, I'm picking Memphis to win it all. |

Why develop talent when you get paid to recruit during a Chevy commercial that's played over and over and over during the tournament?
Anyone else think that's a load of crap? College coaches shouldn't be allowed to participate in commercials until they retire. Why does Duke get an advantage over the other colleges? |

Bobby Knight was doing it way before Kryzewski, who, BTW was his protege.
There's likely not too many coaches who don't have at least a local deal to huck car dealerships and gas stations.

You can recruit all you want, but if the players don't play, they don't get experience. You still have to develop the talent or the recruiting serves no purpose whatsoever. You can have all the ability in the world but unless it's developed it serves no one. As far as whether or not coaches should participate in commercials, well if the NCAA is cool with it than so am I. After it's not a player getting paid for the shoot, it's the coach who is salaried employee of the university or school he/she is associated with. Like poppinjay said, I think you'd be hard pressed to find coaches who don't do at least some sort of promo's. The thing about it is this, not once is Duke University mentioned in those Chevy ads. That means that there is no promotion for the school itself, just for the coach who has already accomplished quite a bit. If you have an issue with commercials then perhaps these reality shows such as Knight School should be cancelled; and Coaches can't commentate during games or bowl games. |

Duke really needed to develop that 3rd option and they never did all year. LSU matched up well with Duke because they had a guy who could slow down JJ and a couple of big bodies down low who could handle Williams.
Right now, I'm leaning towards a Final Four of Texas, Memphis, Connecticut, and Florida. |

My Final Four would be UCLA, UConn, Boston College, and LSU.
Glen Davis intrigues me. Kind of reminiscent of OSU's "Big Country", except with speed.

This is officially the craziest tournament I've ever seen. I'll give props to the teams in the Final Four, but wow, just wow. I really don't think LSU would have won a 3 game series against Duke or Texas, just as UConn wouldn't have lost a 3 game series either. Ray for 'Nova was a big time no show.. some people just don't perform. Also, I thought UCLA would give Memphis some trouble but I didn't think they would win in the end. I guess if I have to pick any team to win it now.. it'd be UCLA. I hate Florida, and I now have a new enemy in LSU so .. go Bruins!

Considering I picked UConn for the championship, I don't think I'm going to finish higher than second. But I don't care, I rooted hard for GMU. And after yesterday, I'm afraid not to pick them. But I think LSU will take it.
