Schoolgirl outdoes Kobe - and Wilt

One night after all eyes were on Kobe Bryant at Madison Square Garden to see if he could break Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point record, a high school senior named Epiphanny Prince did it a little farther downtown.

Prince, who will play at Rutgers next season, set a national high school girls basketball record with 113 points in host Murry Bergtraum's 137-32 win over Brandeis yesterday.

Prince, a 5-9 senior guard, made 54 of 60 shots. Prince broke the record of Riverside Poly's Cheryl Miller, who scored 105 points for the California school in 1982.

"It's just amazing to me," Prince told SI.com. "My best game had been 55 points in eighth grade."

Bergtraum coach Ed Grezinsky said, "When I was told she had 58 points at the half, I thought she had a chance to do something special."

Prince scored 38 points in the first quarter, 20 in the second, 25 in the third and 30 in the fourth.

"It was exciting," Grezinsky said. "As a coach, you don't have many opportunities to see an all-time national record be broken."

Prince, who passed the 2,000-point mark for her career last month, averages 38 points in league play.

Another interesting sports tidbit. Not that I follow women basketball, in any form, but still an amazing record.

That is impressive i thought milliers recored would stand for ever and yes thats reggies sister for those that dont know

I sort of feel sorry for the opposing team, though, and at least some of the teammates have to be PO that they just played "pass the ball to Epiphany" instead of basketball.

Regardless, it's impressive.

Ok...I'd have sworn that tag read "Schoolgirl does Kobe - and Wilt" :hmm:
I need to get my eyeglass prescription looked at.

Yeah, part of me thinks "Wow, that's impressive" and part of me bellows "Basketball is a TEAM SPORT." At least she's guaranteed a spot in the lucrative WNBA.

Who says she has to play in WNBA? Why can't women play in NBA? Didn't they let one or two play in the NHL at one time?

That is impressive, if you do the math, that's about 2 points per minute. In high school basketball, most of the time is spent on getting into position, finding your (wo)man, passing, timing the passes, the shots, etc

This is probably going to be taken the wrong way, but she was playing against girls. I've seen girls HS basketball. There is nothing impressive about it. Watching NCAAW isn't much more exciting either.

Shame about the way her parents named her...

How many assists did she have?

But Brandeis sucks so this shouldn't even count.

:D

I'm sure they COULD let her, but I don't think she'd have a chance. No offense, but she is playing against other girls, once she comes up agained Kobe, KG, or Shaq, she's gonna get hurt.

I don't think I'm out of line saying this, but it's a different league for a reason.

The amazing thing is, not everyone says that about Kobi. The talk is for him now to be MVP.

Very impressive.?? Let's see; she scores 130+ and the other team scores 30+. What kind of lesson is her coach teaching? Lucky for her she was playing against girls, otherwise she might have gotten hurt trying to humiliate the other team. Another classless example of sportmanship gone awry.
