Designer Vaginas - Gasp, please girls, don't do this
By JILL MAHONEY
Saturday, August 13, 2005 Updated at 12:53 AM EDT From Saturday's Globe and Mail Los Angeles — Women from around the world flock to David Matlock's marble waiting room carrying purses stuffed with porn. The magazines are revealed only in the privacy of his office, where doctor and patient debate the finer points of each glossy photo. The enterprising gynecologist sees countless images of naked women, but none are more popular than Playboy's fresh-faced playmates. They represent, he says with a knowing smile, the perceived ideal. “Some women will say, ‘Hey, you take this picture and hang it up in the operating room and refer back to it when you're sculpturing me,'” he said in an interview in his clinic overlooking hazy Los Angeles. “I say, ‘Okay, all right, fine.'” Dr. Matlock is a colourful pioneer in a controversial — and growing — frontier of plastic surgery: nipping and tucking vaginas. Patients from the United States and more than 30 other countries pay thousands of dollars for his “designer vagina,” a purely esthetic procedure that includes shortening or plumping up the labia, or vaginal lips. He attracts even more women for an operation he claims improves sex by tightening, or “rejuvenating,” the vagina. “There's a need for this,” he said. “Women are driving this. I didn't create this market, the market was there.” While doctors have long known how to enhance women's genitals, demand for vaginal surgery has mushroomed in recent years because physicians — led by Dr. Matlock — market it as enhancing sexual satisfaction. Doctors working in the field, including those in Canada, report higher caseloads and longer waiting lists. And the American Society of Plastic Surgeons says the increase is so great that it expects to soon start tracking volumes. The trend has even reached girls as young as 15. In the past 18 months, the number of teens — and in one case an adolescent and her mother — who come to Dr. Matlock for designer vaginas has doubled. “They're mature. Breasts, body, everything. I mean the clothing that they're wearing, the whole thing. These are not little girls. They're mature young ladies.” Plastic surgery's spread to women's nether regions alarms those who see it as a manifestation of society's air-brushed standards of the female form that exploits women's deep-seated insecurities. “I think it's appalling and frightening and one more way in which perfectly normal, beautiful women are terrorized by the possibility of being less than a perfect 10,” said Joy Davidson, a certified sex therapist and author in Seattle. As a personal comment I find this causes me great distress.
Why, because I LOVE a woman with a prominant labia minora. Nothing sexier than the look of the inner lips protruding past the outer lips. Just thinking about it now makes me hard. So please girls, if you are so blessed with a beautiful set of butterfly like vaginal lips, don't let anyone ever tell you that it isn't beautiful. I would be that if you started a poll (maybe later) here that most men would tell you that they are like me. I can't fathom why a woman would do this sort of thing. |
This strikes me as the decadence of a declining empire. Not the act itself, necessarily, but how it's pitched as a sexual enhancer and performed on adolescents. The thought of a 15 year-old girl getting a porn star vagina is just wrong, wrong, wrong. Chalk up yet another depressing victory for Cosmo and its ilk, as a nation of consumer youth buys its way out of the inherent self-consciousness of adolescence. I wonder how the assholes writing those magazines sleep at night.

under 18 couldnt that be considered a form of female genital mutilation? which Is illegal anywhere in the states...
and yah... thats just retarted... i've never seen a picture of a vagina that i didnt like... well except for the horizontal one in this thread http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=2798 |
They had an episode of Dr90210 on this-a young woman, probably about 19, wanted her labia shortened, claiming it was so large, it hindered horseback riding, bothered her in jeans and she couldn't enjoy sex. And her MOTHER was with her on the consults.
While I can't blame people for wanting any kind of cosmetic surgery-hell, there are things I'd like to fix-the idea of someone taking a piece of my labia off so that it looks 'perfect' makes me cringe......(A later episode featured a place where one can go to get their bunghole bleached) |
I heard about this on howard stern. If I recall correctly a botched labia surgery could lead to loss of feeling in the labia and other parts of the vagina....that would suck.
|
I can't say I've ever met one that I didn't like. It's beyond me why anyone would take a knife to thiers.
|
hmmhmm...
I'm perfectly content with the appearance of my pussy ... but hmm... I must admit, if it wasn't so nice and neat I would consider surgery. I'm not overly fond of the look of things hanging out ... |
I don't care what mine looks like; honestly, it's not like a guy spends a whole lot of time down there STARING at it. Please.
Anyways, I think this is ridiculous, unnecessary, and to perform this surgery on someone under 18 definitely calls into question a doctor's ethics--though some physicians might argue that plastic surgeons don't HAVE ethics to begin with. The fact is, these girls need to realize that pussies in Playboy are AIRBRUSHED. They are MADE to look that way digitally. Compare those pussies with one in hardcore porn and you'll see quite a difference :) |
Oh my gawwwd! First the bewb jawb and now this... This is ridiculous. NEITHER OF THESE ARE NECESSARY! Arrrrgh...
|
under 18, yes, totally wrong.
other than that ...eh, even if playboy's airbrushed ... some women do not have that extra flappy stuff hanging down. some do. i do not see what is wrong with not wanting, as an adult ... a 'neater' pussy. fuck, i dunno where/why my ideas come from, really ... certainly *not* playboy ... but at some point ... perhaps because of my general neat-freak tendencies ... i dunno ... just babbling. :p |
In a few years, this will be as commonly accepted as breast implants I bet.
Personally, I never really got into this whole body enhancement thing. Unless it's for a reason other than looks (ie: liposuction for health, perhaps vagina surgery if it really does affect your ability to horseback ride etc.) I think it's totally unnecessary. But then again, I work out to look good (I tell myself it's to get stronger  ), so maybe i'm just hypocritical. |

Reading that article made me a touch sick.
As stated, I too have never seen a vigina I wouldn't sink my tongue into! ;P Fuck these people feeding off of peoples insecurities. It disgusts me. |
As if many people aren't insecure enuff! I like the idea that everybody is unique and if people want 'perfection', maybe a blow up doll is needed.
|
I don't care what it looks like. And if the guys dont care (which seems apparent - we're just happy enough getting some) then I dont see why the ladies should care either.
They're all pink on the inside. |
it's all good to me ,as long as it's nice 'n tight

While I don't understand really nor agree with the procedure unless it is done for actual medical reasons, I can't say that just because someone decides to provide the service that they are inherantly bad people... |
My ex-girlfriend was obsessed with "labiaplasty" as she called it. She was convinced that her minora prodruding was unattractive despite my pleas to the contrary. I guess it could be a little problematic when peeing (again, according to her) and during initial penetration during sex (if the lips get "pulled" inside=uncomfortable) but I don't think any of her reasons were substantial enough to warrant surgery, it's just another type of body dysmorphic disorder, if you ask me. BTW, I find it unfathomable that a Dr. would do this surgery on a 15 year old, they really haven't even fully developed, and his excuse that they are "mature young ladies" sounds disturbingly like the response a child molester would give.

I'm very happy with my pussy... but mine is all tucked in and neat, so I don't know how I would feel if I was a hanger-outer. To be honest, I have often looked at pics of hanger-outers (in hardcore porn) and thought, gosh, I like mine the way it is... but if I had one like that, I hope I'd be just as confident about myself!
This would be like people surgically correcting outie belly-buttons to make them more "neat" and tucked in... and why don't they do that? Because it's not a directly sexual part (boobs or pussy), and men/women don't get obsessed over that part and how it looks to their prospective partner. (Personally, I would never be with someone who doesn't always think I'm hot, no matter how old we are... ktspktsp is wonderful that way, and we make jokes about our dentures bumping into each other when we are old) :icare: I think the beauty of a person is in the "imperfections" (for lack of a better word). Who wants to fuck a manufactured piece of plastic, someone that you could find a copy of at any corner whorehouse? |
^^ What abaya said. Besides... I want nothing sharp near that area of my anatomy. Actually, one side is a little longer than the other, but I don't care... because why should I? They do their jobs, and everyone's happy. :D I can understand a person wanting plastic surgery, there are a lot of reasons... but it worries me that so many people are that unhappy with their own aesthetics. :(

Frankly, I really like watching various flaps of skin grasping at my penis during intercourse. There's something about watching that that just drives me over the edge. Anyway, if they were all cut back, they wouldn't be as much fun to watch. And, they wouldn't be nearly as much fun to explore. |
I can't see it as being much different from any other kind of cosmetic surgery. If an adult woman wants labiaplasty, fine. Personally I doubt it's as hazardous as breast implants.

Also, I very much like Abaya's "tucked in and neat" lips :icare:, but I know if would like them just as much if they were long and draping . I love the pussy because of the person! :) |
I never knew to be insecure about my "'hanger-outer" lips until someone on TFP called vaginas that look like that "beef curtains." As if women don't already have enough to be insecure about  I was horribly embarassed and insecure about it till I figured that it still works perfectly fine and nobody who matters seems to mind the shape of things. So pththtbt! I don't mind that people have preferences; I do mind when one "look" is arbitrarily held up as the definitive standard by which we are all to be judged.
And stay away from my coochie with anything sharp. |
Anybody paying money for surgery to modify their body should pay it instead to a good psychologist and find the true cause of their insecurities and unhappiness.
|
i feel the same about this as i do any other plastic surgery--if that is what makes you happy, knock yourself out. it's not a choice i personally would make, but i'm not going to say that means it is wrong for everyone else too.
|
I hope these women realize that if they give birth (at least the ones that are childless and perhaps want children in the future) that all that money will be to waste, because a baby really tears things up down there. They may still have great looking lips, but a torn up vagina. I never really thought of this as an issue....I don't really care what mine looks like, and since hubby loves it just the way it is, who cares???
|
If someone other than a doctor has their so close that it makes a difference they should probably have their mouth on it rather than their eyes.
