best bed for sex

hey kids,

so i believe after a brief search that it is more or less impossible to find this using the forum search as 'bed' and 'sex' are in oh 1000 or so threads. that being said if this has been covered please point me in the correct direction and flame away.

onwards.

A google search on this topic was entirely unenlightening offering as much info on sex offenders as oin the best place to get it on in the bay area.

my story:

Ok, so I just graduated from college and as a momento took with me my college bed. It's been a great companion for the last couple of years, but being in a rather too nice chcago apartment and in something of a relationship the single college size bed just isn't cutting it. two people on one of those, as i'm sure many of you are aware is painful test of patience.

At first thought I'm considering either a nice futton, the kind with the think wooden slabs and a very think and firm mattress. my other thought is something like the tempurpedic foam mattresses. I slept on one at a buddy's once and it was great. Unfortunately I don't really have that much cash burning a hole in my potect, hence why I turn to you my dear friends. (are these foam matressess any good for sex?)

the cut to the chase:

I'm looking (i think) for a Queen (it has to be able to comfortably sleep 2

Can anyone offer any good suggestions?

Places I might look (internet or chicago)?

As I consider myself as strapping young lad I aim to play in the bed as much as sleep in it and would even consider getting a bed (if one such exists, that is better for playing than sleeping). Ideally I don't really want to spend more than $500 ($300 would be great)

and finally if anyone wants to sell their tempurpedic i'll be happy to take that off your hands.

much obliged to any and all benefactors

regards,

qweds

Futon mattresses smash down. No matter if you buy the expensive, really nice one. Eventually, they get bumpy and lumpy and awful. I used to have bruises on my hips. I personally have a huge king all to myself with a big piece of 7" industrial foam on top. You never even hit the mattress. I really think that foam makes all the difference, no matter what mattress you end up with. Mine was in a garage sale for $40, in 1998. Oh my. I may need a new bed. But, it works. I've been told it's like "sleeping in the clouds" and I've slept 9 in it before. :D

Grasshopper Green 08-09-2005 06:00 PM

Yes, futon mattress suck. DON'T GET ONE. Now that my biased rant is over, I really would like to help you further, but hubby and I have been sleeping on a cheap bed since we were married and are kind of in the same boat. I've heard temperpedic beds are nice, but I've never tried one.

bendsley 08-09-2005 06:34 PM

I have a huge King size bed on a sled with a pillowtop mattress. It's pretty soft and you sink into it a little bit, but I'lve never had any complaints.

vanblah 08-09-2005 07:09 PM

King size ... it's worth it.

TM875 08-09-2005 07:46 PM

I personally HATE those fluffy beds with pillow tops. Likewise, tempurpedic is good, but only if you get the real thing. Since I don't think you have $3000 to drop on a bed, I'd suggest just a nice, mid-priced Sealy or Serta that you can pick up at your local furniture store. Look for sales, you can probably find one for around $500ish.

doodlebird 08-09-2005 07:50 PM

king if you have space.
queen is adequate.
tempurpedics are great for sleeping.
not great for moving around in.

futons - you must be kidding.
if you find futons comfy,
you don't really need a bed.
you're floor will do fine.
tatami mats can be cheap.

i'm a fan of the pillow tops.
soft for sleeping,
yet firm enough to not feel like you're fucking in one of those inflatable jumpy moonwalk thingies.

777 08-09-2005 07:50 PM

I had a futon myself, and it's best to rotate the matress every six months.

One of these days, I'm gonna try out a water bed.

Sugar&Spice 08-09-2005 07:58 PM

I have a full pillow top mattress and it comfortably sleeps two. It isn't the kind where you sink way down in. It is actually fairly firm. I got it for about $400 at Costco.

qweds 08-09-2005 08:09 PM

allright then,

good to get a variety of opinions, i'm actually looking at a used sealy right now, or thinking about it anyways a king for 100 hmm, too good to be any good probably, well we'll see soon enough.

keep the suggestions coming

doodlebird, have you had some sex on a tempupedic?

thanks all

The best bed for sex?

Mine. Come experience it for yourself ladies! :D

Ishmal 08-09-2005 09:01 PM

i slept on a queen size water bed for years, it was extremely comftable! i recomend it for sleeping...
i dunno about sex on it though, i managed to pop it a few times just by sitting down too rough,
just last week i bought a new bed. a queen size inner-spring, i haven't slept on it yet because my room isn't ready for me to set it up...
i'll let you know how it goes...

Craven Morehead 08-09-2005 09:56 PM

www.overstock.com has 3 inch memory foam mattress pads at a decent price. I'm really tempted to order one for our queen size bed. About $150. You might try this with a less expensive mattress.

Any one try these? Interesting comment about foam being good to sleep on but not for fucking. Care to elaborate?

HoneyPot 08-09-2005 11:21 PM

A big, fluffy, noisey one! HAHA Heres advice coming from someone who still sleeps on a twin...hmmmm I would go for a pillow top king girl. One that sits really high, so its like a temple/shrine of sexual rendevous!

Xazy 08-10-2005 10:01 AM

The best bed is one that has 2 willing girls on it.

After that I would say go with a queen, or king size, you can look anywhere.

I'll step in on that one - yes, I've had lots of sex on a Tempurpedic. It works fine, just different from before. The main difference is that the bed doesn't bounce back when you press into it.

The generic term is "Visco Elastic Memory Foam". We have a local chain that sells a knockoff queen mattress set for $1000; you might have someone similar in your area.

cala555 08-10-2005 10:17 AM

Costco and Sams Club have some very nice mattresses and not a bad price on them either.... Buy just the frame to put it on for $30 and your set...

Rinndalir 08-10-2005 10:29 AM

You get what you pay for. I guess it's POSSIBLE to get a great matress for $500 or less, is it LIKELY though...

When I was younger I didn't care, I could sleep on the floor and be fine, and slept on a paper thin less than single size matress all through college. Hence my bed right now is a relic of those days, a cheap used Goodwill special that I got for $75. 5 years ago I didn't care, now I hate it, to the point where I'm saving up to drop 3k on a king sized Tempurpedic, my wife and I both have back trouble and the cheap matress amplifies it x100. At least once a week I have to sleep on the couch because I can't get good sleep on that bed, it sucks. The knockoffs are much much cheaper but I don't know if I'd trust them, the Tempurpedic has a hell of a reputation behind it.

Basically you have do decide, is it worth it to invest in something good that will last for 15-20 years, or can you live with a cheap temporary solution that might start causing you back pain a few years from now.

Rinndalir 08-10-2005 10:43 AM

Haha I realized I just ranted about back problems and didn't actually answer the question :)

Size, you want at least a queen, king if you can get it. More room to roll around on, change positions, fit extra women into if you're a luckier SOB than I am. You want a solid frame that can hold up to lots of shaking and bouncing and movements. Water beds are neat a first as a novelty but get annoying after the first few times, its hard to get any kind of traction on them. They're hell on my back too so I stay away from sleeping on them. A firm mattress has more "bounce" to it. Hope that helps.

rmarshall 08-10-2005 12:49 PM

The best bed for sex is a waterbed. I've had two of them. They can be a few hundred dollars new, but you should find them 2nd hand. I even found a brand new Kingsize mattress once for $10 at a garage sale.

When having sex they just seem to make any sexual position easy. The knees sink down and the woman's parts just seem to line up perfectly. You can't easily do that on a regular bed. The motion of the water is great to maintain a nice rythm. I wouldn't recommend too many people on the bed, though. I eventually got rid of the waterbed when my then girlfriend complained of a backache. Also the dog discovered that if she chews on the corner, she doesn't have to go downstairs to get a drink of water.

I would love to get my current girlfriend on one. Maybe at a hotel?

*Nikki* 08-10-2005 01:12 PM

I agree about the waterbed sex. That is the best sex I ever had and it had nothing to do with my partner:)

Waterbed sex is so much easier and it makes it possible to concentrate more on the act at hand.

redlemon's comment about it being different because of the lack of bounce back sums it up. knees and hands and elbows seemed to sink a little too much.

the bed didn't belong to either me or the mrs., so we didn't have the motivation to stick it out and give it a few rounds. we just ended up on the floor... where it was quite nice, thanks for asking.

my current bed is sealy pillowtop. got it at a factory outlet place for 450 or so. sleeps like a dream.

Ananas 08-10-2005 08:03 PM

Well, I won't weigh in on the type of bed you should get as there are quite a few good recommendations here, you should take into consideration the cost of linens, comforter, mattress pad, frame/headboard, etc. The bigger the bed the more money you'll spend on furnishing it.

Also, measure the room first to make sure you've got enough room for the size of bed you eventually decide on, and add more if you want to get nightstands or other related furniture.

Just some helpful hints from someone who learned the hard way. BTW: I started with a queen waterbed, then went on to a king pillowtop.

777 08-11-2005 01:29 PM

An old friend of mine was using a huge bean bag as a bed. Has anyone tried one of those?

visotech 08-13-2005 06:46 PM

These folks make a great product and are usually priced well below the national brands.

nice...I've been looking for something on CL also in Chicago.

shazbotus 08-22-2005 09:07 PM

The best bed for sex? MINE! ....or has somebody used that joke already?

analog 08-22-2005 09:49 PM

Invest in a good frame. Note the use of the words "invest" and "good". If you have a decent amount of sex, and a cheap frame, you will bend it out (unless the both of you are super-lightweight) and eventually cause it problems. Buy a good one, once, and you will only need to buy one.

legolas 08-27-2005 12:50 PM

call me weird (cause i am) but i've always liked the floor. it's hard and sturdy and i can do a lot more on it.

heccubusiv 08-28-2005 10:00 AM

South Shore Platform bed and a foam mattress, I have not tried it out yet but its the perfect high... about 8 inches off the ground with the matress making it around 18 inches and the mattress is soft but has no bounce, also its completly silent, which would make it easy to get it on living with people in the next room... I just have to find someone for a test ride

?

...I know Im a smart ass...

YKK 08-28-2005 11:35 AM

I can barely believe there was only one recommendation for a frame. A frame with lots of poles and balls and things are the best thing for sex (on a bed.) Get a good one even if you have to put it in storage until you can afford a mattress for it.

I like to see a man with his priorities straight, btw.

Bob Biter 08-28-2005 11:47 AM

Don't knock the futon. I've slept like a baby on a stack of two medium-thickness futons for two years (no base, right on the floor). Great for sex, since there's no noise (aside from the people) and great support! If you can't stand having your futons right on the floor, then get a low wood base (1ft. high max). Easy to maintain (just take it outside and beat it hard!) and won't get lumpy if you rotate regularly. You don't have to get the expensive ones; mine were cheap (OK, I was in Japan, but still...) and worked fine.

shesus 08-28-2005 03:28 PM

A place in Chicago to buy a good frame or headboard is store on Michigan Ave. It is located on the 5th floor (I think) in the 700 N Michigan mall. It is fairly reasonable and has a good selection. JJ and I have bought many things there and a bed is our next purchase.

As for a bed that I would like to have sex on....
Must have rails for grabbing onto and...you know :suave:
soft pillows and blankets and a firm mattress, I don't like to sink into the bed
and of course have clean sheets, to begin with anyway...

Oh and forget the futon unless it is super comfy. I hated having sex on a futon even though it had rails. I always had a backache afterward.

Good luck in your search!

Blackthorn 08-28-2005 04:00 PM

I want to amend my previous answer to this question. I vote for the bed that she points to and says "Let's get it on right THERE!" :D I'll take that one...thanks.

this_is_vince 08-28-2005 09:59 PM

having sex on top of any bed feels great to me. ;)

Totally!

I've found a great (and in-budget) sofa-bed-thing for my new place, and that was definitely a factor in my choice.

:)
