Question regarding "Period Sex"
 

I would have posted this in the Ladies Only section, since women would have more exp, but alas, I'm a guy, so I put it here.

OK, I'll admit it, I'm one of those guys bothered by the blood when attempting period sex. Freaks me right out (And yes, I know this is my problem and its mental and yadda yadda yadda).

Anyway, on to the story. I'm travelling right now with my wife, nice vacation, and she's started up a week earlier than expected. mentally, I can't get past the block or sex during the period, so we're not screwing like rabbits like we normally do during vacations :)

Anyway, we're trying to find a nice happy middle ground - I don't want her to have to think of this as hummer week, since thats totally not fair to her in the slightest, and I wanna give back during the vacation...

Now, I understand that the cups can "clean" things up for sex, but unfortunately they're not available here (we've looked long & hard for em to no avail).

Is there any other alternative out there for keeping things clean during sex? Quite frankly, we're rather clueless in this regard, and its never come up before in this sence - and of course should we find something it would be transfered to our standard repitiore. HELP!! :)

How about the shower? Any blood should wash away before you can see it.

Cups are great- they take some inital getting used to but once you do they keep everything from coming out! BUT you can't have sex with them in- they sorta take up all the room. I do know there's suppsedly some kinds of period products out there that keep the blood in while allowing for sex, but I don't know what kinds- look on the thread about "resuable menstural cups" in the Ladies Lounge.

When she's got a tampon in you can still finger her/lick her clit (make sure she's washed). Tampons do a good job of keeping everything in.

And you know what? Good for you for being honest. Just PLEASE make sure you let your wife know you still love her and find her sexy during her period and don't make the misteak (which I was subjected to) of being like "OH MY GOD YOU'RE ON YOUR PERIOD YOU BLOODY FREAK GET THAT THING THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!!!" Because that's really *not* good for the psyche!

when we have sex while she is on her period or spotting due to BC she is the one that dosent want to have sex because of the mess, hell i would just dive right in, its just blood (mostly i think lol not too sure on the makeup of the stuff)

Oh absolutely - I've still been extra affectionate around her, telling her I love her, etc etc etc - she knows that its nothing against her, and that its my issue completely, so no worries there on this issue. I don't get into a "OMG You're on your period! UNCLEAN!! UNCLEAN!!" triade...its just my own mental hangup, and she already understands that, regardless of the fact we're on vacation.

Its just the lack of hot vacation sex thats bugging us :)

I've heard rumours on another forum that the BC Sponge can keep things neat & clean too - anyone with experience?

Thanks. I only wish I could use them: my wife is not horny AT ALL when she is on her period (i.e., now). And I have zero problem with blood; oral would be fine with me, but this is a week off for us.

Anal sex is the solution when she's on her period.... if she won't go for that then do it in the shower.

You could do it after she has a bath and then just shower quickly afterwards to "clean up". I find mine lightens (as in pratically stops) up for a few hours after I've bathed.

Use a condom and get over it. It's not like she's spurting blood everywhere (at least I'd hope not...), so clean-up shouldn't be that big of a problem.

Just put a towel under her, and use a condom. Don't, I mean, don't look at it afterwards. If you do, then you'll gross yourself out. But maybe you'll find it wasn't as bad as you thought. Give it a chance. Period sex is great, oh hell, any sex is great.

i dont know how long you are on vacation for but you could also wait a couple days untill it gets a bit lighter, if that dosent work im sure there is a beach or lake around somewhere ;) sex while swimming :D?

Hmmm, I am usually at my horniest when I'm due... if it really bothers you can you do something like lay a towel down and keep it dark? Perhaps something like this may help you to get over your 'ick'? Maybe work at it after the first or second day, when things are not so heavy..

"Instead" is a feminine product that will keep the blood out of the vaginal canal and allow you to have sex. See if that's available.

If she sits in a bath for a while without a tampon it, it will temporarily stop or at least slow the flow. You might be able to have a less messy quickie then.

My girlfriend and I used to all the time athough with bc pill she was on she didn't bleed at all really. I'd have some blood on my penis when were were done but that's about it. We usually did it in the shower or we'd put a towel down just to be safe.

call ure brotherm dad, mum, or best friend, and ask them to express post you some 'cups'. that should do it.

Just say no. ;) Seriously though, if you can't manage to refrain from sex one week out of the month, then learn self control. As far as I know, there is really nothing you can do to prevent a mess. Other than condoms (female condoms would be better than the regular rubbers) but keep in mind that if you have period sex without a condom you run a high risk of bladder/vaginal/testicular infections. My advice however is, just don't have sex during this time. And if you have a serious problem with that...then get your woman on the birth control pill. They even have one out now which manages your cycle so that you only have 4 periods a year. But even regular old school ones allow you to regulate your periods. If you have an important occasion, like vk or anniversary or valentines day...etc...she can just skip her period that month. voila, end of problem.

The shower is your friend. It keeps everything nice and clean and not-sticky. You can also do it in a bath if the water is deep enough that you don't color the whole thing red. If you're in a really nice hotel and there is a personal jacuzzi, use it!

If your lady's flow is pretty light (last few days) she can clean things a bit by inserting a tampon about half an hour before you begin, then removing it when you're ready. That will give you 10 or 15 minutes of grace time before things get messy (my experience, anyway). Putting in barriers is not a good idea, at least for me, since my vagina's not big enough to really accomodate them without discomfort, especially since I'm more inclined to get sore while I'm on my period.

You could also try a female condom, which would keep all the blood on her and none of it on you, but I've never used one so can't personally recommend it.

There is something that is called "Instead" (that you'd find in the tampon aisle)... a woman can wear it all day and even have sex with it in her! She can hardly feel that its there and you totally can't!

Well, to update my good friends here at the forum....

The vacation is over, and basically we didn't actually screw like bunnies.

However, I took a baby step towards being able to deal with it, and got into some heavy fingering/etc - which at least was good enough to get her off, and she of course helped me out as well.

Baby step for sure, but I'm working on my hangup :)

I started my period a couple of days early this month (due to my removing the Ring a day early), which was a bummer since I only have a week left with ktspktsp before I am off to Africa & Iceland for 2.5 months (for research). We wanted to have lots of intense sex this week!!

Lucky for me, he has no hangups about periods, and I get hornier when I'm on the rag anyway. We find that the menstrual fluid increases the lubrication, so things move just as smoothly as usual, if not moreso. He always wears a condom, so that helps with easy cleanup. For the bed, we put down a plastic grocery bag under my butt, with a few paper towels laid on top of that to soak up any liquid. (We don't use cloth towels, since those are harder to clean). And away we go!

The only difference is that my cervix gets quite tender during my period so he can't go as deep and hard, but we are just fine with gentle sex at those times. Mmm it was great last night!!! Fingers are very good starters. :)

as stated above... i'd agree that the shower is your best bet, however it is limiting on positions and angles. you're not alone though! my boyfriend really won't have sex with me (which i almost practically have begged for) when i'm on my period...and mine don't get that bad. so... that's my weak suggestion- go with the shower. it is fun :)

For the longest time I wouldn't have sex with my exgf while she was on her period no matter how much she begged. I finally gave in and tried it, it was great! Granted it was toward the end of her period and it was straight to the shower afterwards. But she definitely felt warmer and more lubricated than usual. Wifey tried one once outside of the period, basically just to see if I'd notice the thing there - which I of course did not. So I told her point-blank to just not tell me for the 1st actual period she gets & to try them.

Bottom line, I had no idea. No mess, no fuss, and now no sexual downtime :)
