Cunt.
Is the word "cunt" allowed on the forums? I know a lot of people don't like it, but I find it way less demeaning than words like "pussy" and "cootchie" and a lot less clinical than "vulva." Cunt is my favorite term for my lady bits, and I like the idea of reclaimed language, but I've yet to use it here at Tilted. I'd hate to offend.
So here's my question: What do you think of the word cunt? Is it an acceptable term? Do you mind if I use it when posting, as long as there's no intentional offence? |
Not offensive to me. I agree with you. Some may find it offensive. It's certainly not off-limits here.
|
Agreed. I don't find it offensive at all. It'd be obvious if there was intended offence in the usage of the word. As long as you keep it as simply a word to describe body part (not fellow TFPers, haha), I see no problem with it.
|
I've always understood "cunt" to be one of the most vulgar terms associated with that part of the body, like "snatch" or "twat." It's also commonly used as a pejorative. It won't offend me, but it will distract me and most other people from what you're trying to communicate.

I'd be careful of using it, if only to sanitize the forum for those that access from work. Such words can flag a lot of users for incorrect use of internet access.
But that said, what the hell did you expect in the Sexuality forum anyway? ;) :P On some other forums I visit, we've tended towards the FCUK version of words. (For those that don't know, FCUK is French Connection UK, a clothes reatailer that plays mostly on it's name for advertising. It's about all the appeal they have, the clothes are shit and overpriced.) cnut is the typical form we've started to use. Similar to the use of the word 'pron' to bypass filters. |
Most Aussies have no issue at all with the word cunt!
|
To me its the WORST word anyone has ever come up with....I cant stand to see it used to describe a body part, or as a word to describe a female. Its degrading in both ways, IMO. I literally cringe anytime I see/hear it.

My thoughts ... how can ANYONE be offended by a word?
The connotations behind the word are an entirely different matter. I feel that most people are just reacting to the fact that society has told them that a word is offensive. But hey, this is the Sexuality forum not the Philosophy forum. |
I very rarely find any word offensive. Rather the reaction I have to words like 'cunt' or even 'fuck' for that matter, is that I find myself looking down on people who over use them. Now don't get me wrong, I love a good "FUCK YOU!' from time to time, as an accent in conversation. Further to that point nothing is more arousing than a proper use of 'cunt' when used between two adults in a sweaty situation.
However, it's those little fuckers on the train and other public spaces that seem to not yet understand that some words should be used sparingly, or not at all, when in a crowd. So go ahead, use 'em. Just don't make a whole post out of 'em. |

Nearly the only time I see people use cunt as a vulgarity/insult is from one woman aimed at another woman. It seems to me that guys don't attach the same weight to the word that women do, which has always puzzled me.
|
I've decided that I won't be using "cunt" in the forums, for two reasons.
1. Johnny_Rotten and WillyPete make a good points in their posts. I'd hate to cause more work for the Mods than they already have. 2. I told myself that if anyone who responded was offended, then I'd stop using it while posting here. I really enjoy all of your distant company, and I'd hate to be a thorn in anyone's side. Thanks for the speedy response! Sorry that so many of you have such a bad taste for the word. |

It's not the word's fault that it's attached to an asshole. There are other words that are perceived in this light and there are people who want these words removed from the dictionary. I do not like revisionist tactics like that. So I'm of the opinion that we need to start carefully examining our reactions to things like language and art and being VERY specific about what we find offensive. No word by itself is offensive; not even the meaning of a word should be considered offensive. Only how that word is used in a specific example should be considered offensive. |
I find it strange that you think "cunt" is less harsh than "pussy", but to each his/her own I suppose.
|

I just think that pussy is degrading. I like kittens and all, but having my bits called after them doesn't seem to fit. And, unlike most of you I suppose, I hear "pussy" being used as an insult way more than cunt. *shrugs* |

i don't get why that word is soo bad...I mean for description, how is it any different than dick or cock or pussy?...and for a derogatory or demeaning word, it's no worse than mother f'er etc.....
as far as I'm concerned, it's just another word.... |
Maybe offeneded if your calling someone a cunt, but life your just describing pussy then its just another word.
|
I say 'cunt' all the time.
For some reason I don't like to use it when talking about a pussy.. I only use it as an insult, and boy does it work well :) |

I certainly do not enjoy being called a cunt. lol
|
Well... the term "vagina" sounds a bit too mechanical/scientific for most, so I guess "cunt" is alright. I must admit that I prefer "pussy" though.
|
I think people don't like it because short words with hard consonants tend to sound angry when people say them.
|
im not offended by it I have only heard it being used when stupid girls at my school are arguing or fighting, other than that i dont really hear it and I dont say it because I believe that it does offend a lot of people.

if you don't like the word never visit this thread

Personally I think we need to invent a heap of new swear words we can be offended by. People these days take most swear words in their stride since they're all over the movies and video games. The 'C' word will one day take it's place in everyday language and just be another 'Damn' or even 'Bitch'.. What am I going to call the guy that cuts me off in his car then?

I don't see how she thinks cunt is not derogatory.. |
"I'm a really big fan of cunt over words like pussy, and especially, vagina. The word has this great guttural sound that lets you get right into it. Pussy and vagina are really dirty words - you only ever hear really greasy men saying things like that. Cunt lets women be vulgar without being derogatory."
That is the single most inane quotation I've ever read. Every guy I've ever met (in my peer group, I mean) uses the word "pussy" all the time, and, while I know some hugely sketchy guys, I like to think that they don't compose the entire spread of people I know. And I never hear anyone but doctors or people who are deliberately clinical use the word vagina. It's almost never used in porn or erotica that I can come up with. Maybe I'm just out of the loop on who is using vagina and for what purpose. Oh, and to weigh in on the conversation, I've gone back and forth about cunt. I had a really good friend who suddenly started calling everything he saw a cunt. Literally couldn't get a sentance out of his mouth without using the word. That, in addition to the fact that I've only ever heard it used as a very derogatory word put it low on my list. I suppose if a girl wants to talk about herself that way or use it in erotica, that's fine with me, but I'm not a big fan of just hearing it. |
This is one of those words that even makes the most liberal of people cringe...
It's just inappropriate regardless of context... Kinda doesn't have any upside at all... Every possible connotation is negative... |
Quote:
How in the hell is that a negative statement? I consider it to be rather positive myself. And it's a whole lot easier to say than "My girlfriend has a vulva, vagina, labia, and clitoris." I object to referring to any person as being just a single body part, a woman has a cunt, but she is not a cunt. I find it offensive when women are reffered to as a hot piece of ass, a nice rack, a pair of legs, or anything else, it is the idea behind the statement, not the words used that are offensive. |

Words only have as much power as people give them. If someone's going to be offended, it doesn't really matter what word is used - they'll find a reason. What's important is the intent behind the message, not the medium used to convey the message. I mean, who's offended by fingers? No one I know, but people get pissed when given the bird. Why? It's the insult itself that offends, see?
|
I don't use the word, but whenever I hear it all I can think of is, "DAMN!! I can't believe he/she just said that." I'm not offended by it, but I have heard that it is the worst possible thing to call a woman. I guess its the equivalent of the N-word to an African American.

My two cents:
I'd never call a girl a cunt because I can see why they would find it offensive. That's not even a word I save for the people that piss me off the most, I just don't use it. Now my guy friends, I've been known to call them cunts, pussies, etc. just because for some reason it cracks me up. Mind you it's not something I'd call anyone but a guy friend who knows I'm not serious. I hate the word pussy for some reason and personally would choose cunt over it when talking dirty with the girlfriend, but I'm not really one for having conversation like that with the girlfriend, so it's not normally a problem. I just go with a nice neutral "special area" :suave: |
Yall should read the bood [U}Cunt[/U] by Inga Musico. Feminism Rocks.
My girlfriend uses cunt and clit to describe herself. All after reading that book. |

I actually think "pussy' is less vulgar...it sounds kinda cute to me...
But "cunt" to me is the insult young british kids would use when beating up a kid in the street, lol. just my 2 cents. |
Cunt sounds harsh to me..
I just can't imagine anyone saying the word 'cunt' and not meaning it as an insult. It sounds like one in every way, IMO. |
say it in bed if you wanna get a little dirty, thats one use that aint an insult.
|
'Cunt' has too much baggage, I think. Whenever I hear the word, I can only think of one of the greasy thugs at my old school shouting it down the hallway at another group of people. I couldn't stand that.
Personally, I think 'pussy' is a lot less vulgar, as well as a lot of the little pet names they've been given. 'Cunt' has more harsh consonants, and will always stand out in my mind as a four-letter word that dirty high-school drop-outs shout at one another. In the end, what does it matter what I think? Anyone should use the terminology they're comfortable with, so long as the words are approprite to the surroundings. To stop people from saying words I don't want to hear (sphincter? Ugly word) impedes on that whole freedom of speech thing, and is uneccessary and ludicrous to boot. Call it a pussy, twat, cunt, vulva, kitten, banana portal, it's still the same amazing thing. A rose by any other name. |

maybe I'm one of the only guys that thinks this, but I do consider the word 'cunt' to be extremely derogatory and degrading to a woman. I put in the same classification as calling a black person the "n" word (don't know if that's acceptable to say here, so I wont, but I'm sure you all know what I mean).
It just sounds horrible for some reason, there's something dirty about it that just isn't right. It doesn't bother me in the way that I'll try and prevent people from saying it, but I will speak my mind about it, because I do take it as offensive if used in that certain context. |
i don't find it offensive, but i don't use it much. the only time i do use it is in reference to the body part. it was a common insult when i was in school though so i can see how it might be offensive to people.
honestly, i don't really care for the word pussy. it sounds silly and makes me squirm a bit when i hear it. i have never heard it and thought it sounded hot--in any situation. it's a word that just makes me stop. i find it more insulting than cunt--prolly cause since childhood it is used as an insult (and considered acceptable by most as one--either as pussy or puss). twat and snatch are common for me. but i admit i do use the term vagina most, simply because i'm used to clinical terms. vagina isn't a term i'd use in bed, but in most other situations it works. |
I'm not generally offended by words like this. What disturbs me is the emotions that a person puts into the words when used in a derogatory manner. In other words, the word itself and the meaning that a person may put to it doesn't bother me, but when it's used with extreme emotion, I have to stop and re-evaluate the current situation.
|
i hate the word personally
|
C.U.N.T. Can't understand normal thinking. Applies to men as well as women.
|
I've always liked the word cunt, it's just plain fun to say and it's damn sexy as well. Pussy is great too, but it sounds all soft and cute.:p If you're in the mood for some down and dirty action, cunt just works better. :)
|
I find it interesting how a word's meaning can change so dramatically from person to person, depending on how they were exposed to it. Language is defined by the communal associations placed on each word, even if the dictionary's definition is completely different.
It's annoying to me how people can't see this obvious fact. We're constantly creating new euphemisms for offensive words, but they morph oh so quickly to the true cultural association(better word here?) that it signifies. Retard --> Special ---> Mentally Disabled ---> Developmentally Challenged ---> etc. On this point, however, there is a new trend for naming, "Person with ____________" I wonder if this separation of Individual and Disability is just another stopgap measure or if it will actually retard stereotypes about the disabled. |
Some guys dont get it.. it is truly the rudest thing A guy can say and for a guy to think there is no meaning to it either shows his ignorance or his lack of respect. I was talking to this guy about it once.. I asked him what he thought the meaning was and he could only give me this nebulous answer about putting women in their "place" yeah right.

lukethebandgeek has the best advice for all of the women (and men, I suppose) out there. I really suggest reading Cunt It's an excellent read, and it's crazy empowering.

"The Indo-European word 'cunt' was derived from the goddess Kali's title of Kunda or Cunti, and shares the same root as 'kin' and 'country.' "
-Gloria Steinmen in her forward to the V-Day edition of The Vagina Monologues. |
I also think 'cunt' is a more powerful word than 'pussy'. However, I find myself using it when things start to get really hot and wet. :icare:
|
Hmmm... I think it's rude to referr to a female as one, personaly, I don't use that word because I don't really like it. But I don't find it offensive. I think like any word, it all depends on the context it's used in.

Harpie is quite fond of this term....at certain times.....so it cant be all bad

The reason obviously is that 'cunt' is a offensive word towards a female is that it refers to their genitiles and their ability to have intercourse, as if the rest of the body is a waste.
Obviously, if you call a guy that, it refers to them being female. But yes, I do mind. If you want to talk about the vagina, keep it clean. |
What in the hell? Ok, last time I posted in this thread we were all here just having a decent time joking and now...it's offensively taken? Oh, good grief...must everything be a serious discussion??

I'm wondering where you got the idea that the word cunt implies that the rest of the female body is a waste. This is the first time I've heard anything of this sort, and me and my cunt are offended! But really, how did you gather that idea? |

No worries Stone.....
The term cunt , much like any other word, will be offensive to some and benign to others. Just be careful where you say it, and who you say it to. Personally, i have been called a cock many times before.....didnt bother me one bit. But.....then again....I AM a cock. friend to tecoyah " You fucking cock" tecoyah to friend "Is that all I am to you....I feel so used" Context is the key to communication |
Aha :P Used, thats the word I was looking for.
