how do i find a professional waxer?
Alright, So I read the "Everything about shaving" post and the "waxing" post on LL, and I'm ready to take the big step from the blade to the wax... get it all taken care of and smooth like buttah for three weeks.
So how the crap do I go about finding a waxer who's a professional? It's not the type of thing I want to go ask my co-workers about? (not quite water-cooler convo- "so, who do you get to wax your ass?") Do I just flip open the phone book and ask every single one how long they've been doing it? Or are the professionals huddled up in specific places, like spas and such? Help a hairy girl out!

Check out local spas. My g/f works at a spa and says ask them if they have Nufree wax which is really good b/c it sticks to the hairs, but not the skin. If you don't have any local spas, just look for skin care places, which probably will do them. BTW, you'll find many more people who do "bikini" waxes, verses "brazillian" waxes (something about someone having to move your intimate stuff around to work the wax in and stuff that discourages some aestheticians from "going beyond the runway"!)

While all salons (at least in NJ) have to be liscensed and get regular board of health checks, I'm not sure every state is the same.
I'd check with the BBB to see if any salons have complaints agains them. The best place to find a good waxer is thru word of mouth... If that's not possible, you could always do some investigating yourself. Make an appointment at a local salon (don't go for the cheapest but don't go for the most expensive either) and have a bikini wax or a half leg wax first and see how careful the waxer is (and is she wearing gloves, how hygenic is the salon, etc) If you are satisfied with the results, then go for the full waxing.
