Labor is defined as change in cervix (dilation) AND contractions.


prostaglandins can be given to "ripen the cervix", and get it ready to ready to dilate. it can take several hours (24) at times to really make the cervix soft,and ready to change. once the cervix is ready, then a drug call oxytocin can be given, which will actually induce contractions...

Thanks for the info on prostaglandins in the semen.. I had no idea about that... it is funny how you can study and learn so much, and then still not know something as fundamental as that.

My wife went totally nympho until the seventh month. I'm a very sexual person, but she was almost too much for me. The down side is that from the seventh month through 3 months post-partum she had absolutely NO interest whatsoever, then things got back to normal. The lesson is, that nobody is the same. If she feels like it enjoy, otherwise keep in mind that that first time when she feels back in shape is going to be a mind-blower.

anyway...i totally love pregnant women not just in a sexual way...alot are just as pretty if not better while being prego, my wife actually with the first kid was too sick the first 5 or 6 months so sex was out of the question now she isnt puking sick all the time but she is semi sick...but a week or so ago we couldnt have sick cause we were waiting for a test resault back and i swear for those 2 weeks that we couldnt she was horny the whole 2 weeks now its back to being maybe once a week tho :|

oh and like everyone said its safe to have sex while prego but if ur starting to have contractions maybe you should have sex with a black guy :crazy: lol i had to jillian :icare:

From a sort of professional point of view (obstetrics is not my field):
Sex is fine, just make sure she is comfortable - different positions etc
but, if there is bleeding or a possibility that her membranes have ruptured, then no, not a good idea.
Also, be careful of new partners etc because newly aquired infections can harm the foetus.

40% have a decrease interest after birth,
some have an increased interest and satisfaction,
in UK, 90% return to having sex by 10 weeks post birth,
2% haven't tried by 1 year!!

My wife and I had sex mere hours before my son was born. About 5 if I remember right.

Never to far along, unless she is having pain or other issues with her pregnancy. Just my experience here.
