SIx weeks is how long you should wait after childbirth (recommended), but most of the time it seems that four weeks works fine.
Don't rush it, having an infection down there can be nasty. One of our friends had that happen. Ouch.

Let me reveal a piece of top secret information to you females. It is customary for the new father to secretly pull the doctor aside just before the birth to ask him to put in a couple of extra stitches after the episiotomy. The going rate is $100 per stitch.

I have a friend who is 8.5 months older than his sister, sure she was a bit premi but still...
My wife and I waited about 3 and a half weeks after she gave birth to our son (with an Episiotomy performed), we couldn't wait any longer and are glad we didn't try =) Last edited by robodog; 10-03-2004 at 06:34 PM.. |

![]() And if she notices (she probably would! After all, she's had her body all her life, and she'd probably notice even a small difference.), she might go and complain to the hospital manager/file a lawsuit, and the doctor in question would lose his/her job and/or medical license! We waited as long as we could without hurting her or going insane and that was about 4-4.5 weeks. It hurt if we hit a bad angle for a long time after that. However, had she not torn, I'm sure there wouldn't have been bad angles. Everything is good now tho. |

My wife had one and it was around 3-4 weeks before we tried anything. It was also about that long before she wanted to try anything there, what with the pain of healing and all.
The best advice is that you take it VERY slow the first time or two afterwards. It took a year or so before she quit having the sensastion that she was thinner than before where they had sewn her up. |

I had a friend who told me her OB, who was a woman, put in an extra stitch for her after her baby was born. She said it was awesome and she loved her for it. I had never heard of people doing that before she told me. So unless she was lying (which I don't think she was), some OB's will do this it seems. (I'm pretty sure it was at no additional cost!).
