Question regarding birth control pills..
If a girl is taking birth control pills while in a relationship, is it safe to assume that the couple is having unsafe sex?
Or is it pretty common for the girl in a safe sex relationship to take birth control pills as an added precaution? |
Women take bc pills for other reasons that to prevent pregnancy...IE they have female problems that taking the pills can either fix, or make better (Im one of those women) Dave and I also use condoms
so just because a girl takes the pill doesnt really even mean she is having sex at all the pill does nothing really to promote "safe" sex...it does not prevent std's at all, the only thing the pill does is decrease a chance of becoming preggie |

Assuming the girl is not taking the pills to address a medical concern or non-sexual related issue, do you think she still would take birth control pills if she were using protection and having safe sex? To me, it would seem that if she's on the pill, she is probably having unsafe sex, as she is relying on that to prevent the chance of a child, as opposed to relying on condoms, diaphrams, etc. But that is just my thought process, and I'm unsure, so I wanted to ask here.. Thanks. |
thats just really not something that you can guage "just because she is taking the pill"
lots of couples use the pill AND condoms...but then some couples use the pill only...there really isnt a way to say...JUST because shes on the pill she isnt doing something else as well |

Thanks again. |
I have to ditto Shani here. I'm on the pill and we use condoms, just for the reason that a baby at this point in my life would severly damage plans I have... But, I've also been on the pill for years, for medical reasons, so it wasnt a big deal to use both.

Lots of people use the pill and condoms (or whatever else) because they don't want to consider the possibility of pregnancy, and a 99.7% chance on top of a 97% chance is a .00009% chance (just going by memory for the actual percentages. Seeing as p<.0001 is considered statistically insignificant, it makes perfect sense.
Redundancy is teh best protection. That's why prisons have two fences and why I back up my data both onsite and offsite. |
Also remember the possibility that a woman taking BC doesn't even mean they're having sex; she could just be trying to be prepared for the unknown. Kinda like when a guy goes out on a first date; he doesn't expect the girl to put out right away, but he still stashes that condom in his wallet.

Also a believer of better safe than sorry. Also, surprisingly enough, the condom is more a psychological safety for myself as well (as the guy no less). The girlfriend was on the pill for about 3 months before any sex happened, and the condom thing was sorta a prerequisite (yes, she brought up sex and we actually talked about it...took 2 weeks from that initial conversation to actually follow through on it).
