Hey everyone, well this was a very cool test, haven't done one of these before.. My results weren't that shocking to me, M=235, F=194 BEM= 41 Masculine.
I thought maybe i'd get nearly masculine,, but double the top rating of 20.hmmmmm interesting |

Hm, 93 - 82 = 11, I'm almost Butch according to this, wouldn't have thought that myself.
How useful is this anyway? Seems like a collection of outdated social stereotypes to me. Seriously, men are ambitious and have leadership abilities, while women are flatterable, gullible and yielding? Or if they are not, then they are "masculine" women (and vice-versa)? I call BS. |

Masculine: 91
Feminine : 89 BEM : -2 hmm i expected to score androgynous and I scored just that way, although usually people think I am more feminine than masculine, but apparently according to this it is the other way. it would be fun to give this test to a close friend for them to score yourself so you get a less biased opinion for comparison. |

I'd find it much more interesting to know what everyones total score for each column is, how many of which numbers they rated themselves at (how many 7's, how many 6's) if possible per column, and what their neutral, masculine, feminine scores are. This is a somewhat typical and somewhat biased blind test which was somewhat well done with hidden factoring to disguise the actual questions. I am actually surprised by my own ranking since all my friends think i am somewhat feminine and I got somewhat masculine.
edit: Upon further examination I agree that the test is easily slanted and has little verification. I do feel that being sure of yourself is not a male attribute. Of course I don't believe so much in male/female attributes beyond external influences.

I took that test in college, and was nearly masculine. I guess I was kind of pissed off in the end, because it was characteristics that had to do with not being a push over that gave me my score, and I dislike that confidence is considered male. However, my boobs will never let me pass as male, or as androgynous for that matter. |

pretty male according to this BS test. Just 'cause I'm self-reliant and assertive? Okay, it's obviously no coincidence that I use the name Manuel Hong and I'm a woman... Funny, Meyers-Briggs says I'm an INFP (introverted, intuitive, feeling, perceptive). According to this test that would make me uber-femme.

This is my first post here. I was wandering through, and i found this topic. i thought it was really interesting so i printed out the test and took it, expecting an androgynous result (we had a discussion during social problems class about femininity and masculinity, traditional roles for males and females, and sexism) but i got
masculine: 76 feminine: 94 total: -18 (nearly feminine) then, reading down the thread, i found the online test and took that, getting masculine: 83 feminine: 92 total: -9 (androgynous) edit: oh, im male, btw. /edit I dont know if i unconsciously affected my results the second time, but i doubt it. I did change some answers from the first time, and i attribute this to seeing all the choices at once right next to the question. (and having thought about each question more the second time through) After taking the test, im pretty sure it tests for masculinity and femininity, as the creators saw it, making the test inherently biased. given that, it probably does fit with standard definitions. (the rules are unwritten, so whol's to know?) Last edited by screwball8; 02-07-2005 at 06:31 PM.. Reason: add information |

Okay, so I broke down and actually took this thing. Took the online version. To no surprise of my own, I'm rediculously masculine.
114 - 49 = 65 I'm sure those that know me well would agree. So in response to lurkette's query, I don't think that these traits are good indicators of masculinity or femininity. Perhaps they would have been in the 19th century, but now this is total garbage. I think a more proper labeling, considering the choice of traits and how they were grouped, would be bullish vs sheepish. The whole thing basically came down to strong and aggressive vs mild and meek, and to categorize that as masculine and feminine is total and complete garbage. That being said, I don't think there's a problem with anyone falling anywhere on that scale. I think that men will tend towards "masculine" as they put it, and women will tend towards "feminine", but that's not to say that there is anything wrong with a person having traits other than what he/she would be expected to have.

I agree that this is garbage, but oh well, I'm bored and curious. I did the same thing as screwball8... I did the paper test and got 14 (middlin'-high on masculinity), then scrolled down and saw the online version. I don't think I consciously altered any answers, but I did think a little more (and yeah, it was easier to have the choices right in front of me). There I got a 10, which is right on the edge between androgyny and masculinity... that seems more like me, as I was always a tomboy, but still like to be girly when I get the chance. I just don't exude femininity, though I wonder what my boyfriend would say? I think parents do a lot to shape our gender: my dad is a carpenter and had a big influence on my personality/confidence level, and my mom didn't exactly indoctrinate me into feminine-hood (and I really didn't want to be like her, anyway). Waiting to see what ktspktsp (my boyfriend) gets...

Yeah, I ended up with 70-90=-20 (I'm a guy). Not too surprised, I'm rather laid back/unagressive, and (I think) caring, which according to this test are female qualities. Anyway, this seems more of a personality test than a gender one, since it has a really constrictive idea of gender roles. And I'm not surprised that my gf got a higher score, since she is more agressive in her personality, though that certainly doesn't detract from her feminity in my opinion

Strongly feminine, and no surprise. I'll see if I can get my SO to take it tomorrow and post her results. I'll predict feminine, but not as strong as mine. If she's agreeable, we'll rate each other and I'll post those results also. |

-22. Not suprised one bit. Funny thing is that I like more masculine things than most of my friends, i.e. muscle cars, football, hard rock, steak, and beer. I've also had some of the hottest girlfriends you could dream of.
However, I am extremely caring and cheerful. Interesting scenario I think.

Oh yeah... -11, nearly feminine. I prefer to think that I'm androgynous, being as I'm geared toward moderation and balance, and I think that's how I present myself, but oh well. It's just one test. |

I had my SO rate me.
My rating, as reported above was M:65 F: 121 BEM: -56 SO rating me: M: 41 F: 126 BEM: -85 They're both way into the femme range, but her perception is quite a bit further femme than mine. I rated her: M: 66 F: 93 BEM: -27 (feminine) Her rating herself: M: 81 F: 92 BEM: -11 (nearly feminine) It's interesting. Each of us has a perception of the other that is more feminine than the other has of herself. |

Completely androgynous. Yep. -9.
It's about as I expected. I tend to like hiking, mountain biking, general athleticism, but I'm a huge fan of certain chick flicks and definitely played with Barbies as much as my Star Wars action figures when I was young. dunno. living in a coop that is all scientifically-minded females. it's interesting to see the range, most everyone is androgynous around here, though some are definitely more masculine. Maybe 1 or 2 in a house of 50 come off as feminine. Odd.
