Flattery or blatant come-on?

Odd thing happened today... I went with my girlfriend to look at an apartment that she is thinking about renting (by herself not with me, fyi) and the girl showing the apartment seemed a bit overly friendly.

Anyway, heres what happened: She walked us to the model apartment, and after we get inside she ask me, "Have you ever modeled?" The question catches me a bit off guard and I respond "No, I sure haven't." Then she proceeds to tell me that I look like I should be an underwear model. I blush and tell her that I have never cosidered or have had someone suggest that. My girlfriend, who is standing close by, looks like she's gonna have a vein pop out of her head. I notice on the girl what appears to be an engagement ring. When we get back to the office she tells me as we are leaving that I should model sometime.

My question is this, was this girl suggesting that she wanted to rip my clothes off and ride me like a rodeo bull, which seems to be the feeling my girlfriend got from it, or was she merely flattering me and being nice?

when we were leaving the parking lot I told my girlfriend that if I ever came over and she wasn't at home at least I'd have someone to talk to. She was not amused by this comment... :p

She's a crude businesswoman :) Using flattery to sell her product, the apartment.

But I'm sure you do look like a Calvin Klein model ;)

Averett always knows how to make someone feel very special

Dude, are you being sarcastic or something?

In other news, seems to me that if that girl was being nice, she took it wayyy to far. I mean seriously, that's at the very least unintentional flirting...

thebeat 08-11-2004 05:58 PM

Sorry should have quoted her, although not sure why that was such a big deal...

i was referring to the "But I'm sure you do look like a Calvin Klein model" comment, not being sarcastic by any means...

RainbowBright 08-11-2004 07:27 PM

Not a very businesslike comment to make, she was obviously picturing you in your underwear which I guess means she must have been coming on to you. I guess probably to "seel the deal". Maybe she should just sell a good product.

Every single apartment I have even gone to rent has at least one uber-hot chick who they call in for the hard sell. She still might have wanted to ride your boner coaster, though.

maleficent 08-11-2004 07:35 PM

I really think we need to see you in your Calvins so we can make an accurate assessment. :D

My apartment complex has to surly bitches working in the office, it's no wonder why there are no adorable young fellas living here :) only senior citizens....

Flyguy 08-11-2004 08:11 PM

I vote for that she was just trying to sell the place.

Trisk 08-11-2004 08:15 PM

Considering the engagement ring, I am going to go with Averett on the assumption that she thought flattery would make you take the apartment.
Still...pretty weird thing to do. Was she aware that your girlfriend was the one looking to rent?

Meier_Link 08-11-2004 08:21 PM

It still seems odd to me. She said this after I told her that I wasn't the one that was looking for an apartment. If anything she reduced the chance of my girlfriend actually wanting to rent there.

Meier_Link 08-11-2004 08:25 PM

btw, had i been sporting only my underwear i doubt she would have made the comment. I'm not nasty or anything, it's just that I don't have the requisite six back abs and shaven chest that modeling would require. i think i look better in clothes.

jmad 08-11-2004 09:30 PM

Did she know that the apartment was for your girlfriend? If she knew your girlfriend was looking at the apartment, she probably was hitting on you. Had she wanted to sell the product, she should have hit on your girlfriend ;).

AfterBurn 08-12-2004 12:39 AM

lol nice, to me it seems like she was just trying to sell the thing, cause thats what i'd do in a business situation, flatter the client as much as possible and it usually works...but if she wasnt then you're pretty lucky, noone ever said to me that i should be a model..i've been accused of being gay or being a princess from girls that i dont know for some reason..just careful when youre around people that want something from you..

Cedar 08-12-2004 06:06 AM

Wow, unprofessional much? (her, not you) It's a come on, and not a good one, and she's hoping to sell the apartment by flattery. Mr. Cedar and I used to get the flattery crap all the time when we were shopping for engagement rings. Ew, ew, ew. It doesn't matter if she was "just being nice;" she was way out of line.

Bentley Little 08-12-2004 06:13 AM

She could have just been a jealous bitch, and saw your cute girlfriend as a threat to her. How? Well, she may have been interested in you (and just because she has an engagement ring doesn't mean she is gonna be faithful) and wanted to move in on you but needed to encite some ill communication and doubts within your girlfriend's mind to get rid of her.

My girlfriend thought she was way out of line also. She was talking about calling and complaining, from which I tried to dissuade her. Either way it seems to me to be pretty much a consensus that she was probably just a shrewd business woman....

So much for going back alone and asking her for a more personal tour of the apartment ;)

Why do you need a tour of the apartment when you can get a personal tour of a different type of realty? :D
