I brought the massage topic up in Tilted Living but I had some more questions that are probably more appropriate for Sexuality. This is for males and females to respond to. How do you feel about having a male massage therapist? Do you consider getting a professional massage in any way sexual? Other than breasts or genitals, do you have any body areas that are "do not touch" areas? Would you let a female massage those areas but not a male? or vice versa? Since I'm considering a career in massage therapy, I really want to get as much info as I can. I'm concerned that me being a man may limit some potential clients.

I only let my GF massage me. But that's my own hang up. I would not be comforatble with either a man or a woman touching my naked, oily skin.

From what I hear from my friends, I am kind of odd this way. Most of them have no issues with men or women.

This from a guy, I prefer a male massage therapist. I like deep tissue massage, and, for the most part, guys have better hand and arm strength to do this kind of massage.

If I am having a massage as a prelude to having sex, I find it to be very sexual. If I am having a massage for therapy, my brain understands that it's all business, and I don't get aroused.

Think of it as like going to the doctor. They see you naked and touch certain private areas of the body, but you control your response, right?

Personally, I don't care if my massage therapist is male or female, because it's just business. I do find men give the best massages, perhaps due to upper body strength or hand strength.

I have a friend, who's a massage therapist, and has a very professional website that clients can use to set up appointments and get info about her services. It's all completely legit stuff. She has gotten a phone call from time to time, about what "extras" she offers and what she does for tips.

First time she was asked the question, she honestly had no clue as to what this person meant.

I am not fond of massages, I'm way too ticklish (it's embarassing), but the one or two I have had, the office is usually pretty clinical looking, the lights may be dimmed for relaxation, but it's still a table in a pretty stark office, not exactly something that would get your motor running.

I'm with Average Joe - going to the massage therapist is like going to the doctor, only nice. They see all kinds of bodies and it's not sexual at all, although to be honest I have weird erogenous zones sprinkled all over my body (just above my knees, inner arm around my elbows, pretty much all of the back of my neck), so it's hard not to get um...tickled, whatever the gender of the massage therapist. But it passes and it's not weird or anything, just ticklish.

I don't think I'd ever really get a massage professionally. I've always enjoyed them from my girlfriend just because it's an intimate kind of thing. If I were to get one though I think that it wouldn't matter if the person was male or female.

Here's another question, for anyone who is or knows a professional, do people get aroused during it? I'm sure that it has to happen, how do you react to that sort of thing?

I don't get aroused at all. You would know what I am talking about if you have ever had a deep tissue massage. They can leave you feeling slightly beat up. No slight against your girlfriend, but you should try a professional one sometime (and no not from the Tokyo Spa). I have always had good luck finding quality massage therapists through Aveda salons.

Trust me, a professional massage is quite far from anything sexual. Try it once and you will understand. If you feel a bit too homo-erotic with a guy, get a girl for your first session, then you will see that it really doesn't matter at all.

Ive gotten professional massages before and I love them. Very relaxing, not sexual at all. The room I had mine in was clean and professional, small, dark, quiet music playing, warm and comfortable and the massuese was an attractive woman. But the massage was non-sensual - relaxing, yet...professional. It was great.

I saw about a 50-50 split in men/women massueses.

In the states, a registered massage therapist is going to be all business. You are going there for therapeutic massage, nothing else. Male sex probably won't limit your career at all.

For those who have been to Toronto or Niagara Falls, you're well aware that there are many massage parlors, generally frequented by men, where the "massage" is a prelude to the happy ending.
You probably won't be able to find work there!

I've never had a deep tissue massage, but i've had two aromatherapy relaxation massages. My first was from a girl the second was a guy. Both were great, but it was more sensual than 'professional' (ie stark white office uncomfortable board)... There was light music, dim lights lots of great smells, i loved it. It was sensual, but not sexual. Either way, great stuff.

Training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/ Muai Thai, i gotta have a personal (female) massage therapist, but luckily ive known her since we were kids so she give me house-calls. sets up her table, puts music on, lights sented candles, and oils me down for 40bux an hr.

Shes the only girl that can bring tears to my eyes too....

I've had a bunch of massages, and I know it's something psychological, but I just can't enjoy the massage if its a guy that does it - I know its a weird hang-up, but hey - that's me.

Of course, the problem is that I do a lot of physical activities - so I end up needing really hard massages, so its not easy to find a girl that can do that - but sometimes I get lucky

I much prefer "personal" massages to "professional" ones - just a friend giving a friend a massage, or a massage and something extra - it's a lot better to have a friendly atmosphere than some kind of formal work environment.

I have very strong feelings about this. I dont want anyone except my girlfriend to massage me, with anyone else it makes me feel wierd.
